From Dallas: A Miscellany! (42 points)

So I'm still waiting on a base for my submission for the Hall of Heroes, which is the last room left for me in the Chambers of Challenge. In the meantime, though, I've still been painting, and I have a bunch of random stuff in different periods, genres and scales to submit!

First up is the second painted model from my Barons' War (part 2) project - the Lord Edward.

This is another model from the Curteys Miniatures range and it's really good. The Curteys models have separate heads and weapons but they fit fairly well.

Heraldry was all painted freehand of course.

This was a good one to get done. Fortunately the heraldry on the other knights will likely be simpler than this! Ten points for a mounted 28mm model.

Next up are a couple of models from my teenage collection - a Grenadier Djinn and treasure chest.

I think that the skin on this model turned out well. I basecoated it with GW Rhinox Hide and highlighted with Mournfang and Skrag Browns.

Even painted the eyes! It's quite a large figure (it's on a 40mm base) so I will claim seven points, and three for the small treasure chest.

Here's another Grenadier model from 40 years ago - the Iron Golem. I painted him as a bronze golem as I thought that was a bit more interesting.

Colours used were Retributor Gold, Hashut Copper and Brass Scorpion, as well as Agrax Earthshade.

Decent detail on this model for something sculpted over 40 years ago. Seven points for this big model as well.

Next up are two 28mm downed Soviet pilots from Mongrel Miniatures. These guys are super-characterful and enjoyable to paint for sure.

Dude reaching for his pistol.

His companion is nursing a wounded arm.

Ten points for these two 28mm models.

Last model in the post is one that had been sitting on the painting table primed for some years... it's a 20mm Sherman tank from an unknown manufacturer. Not sure how I got it as I don't do WW2 in 20mm anymore (and sold all my models in that scale). The model is quite nice - resin hull and turret with metal tracks and gun - and well detailed.

The original .50cal machinegun went AWOL at some point but I substituted a 15mm plastic one (gasp!) that seems to work OK.

As you can see, it's been painted as a Soviet lend-lease vehicle. The idea is that it will see service with Conscript Greg's 20mm Soviet forces. Of course he'll probably want to stick it on a base or something crazy :-)

I'm pretty pleased with it actually. The base is Castellan Green highlighted with Death World Forest. Decals are from the decal folder - Tamiya 1/48 StuG III (turret numbers) and Tamiya 1/48 T-34/76. Some shipping and mud splashing completed the work.

Fifteen points for a 20mm vehicle. I'm hoping that my next post will be to fulfill the Hall of Heroes challenge and from there I'll prostrate myself before the Altar of the Snowlord!

Happy Valentines Day everyone and please stay safe in all senses of the word ;-)

Thursday From RossM Late Romans, Early Saxons, Late Crusaders and Undead (90 points)

Last Thursday post here and similar themes from previous post are being carried through.

First up is a command stand for the Late Roman army being rebased for ADLG in 28mm.

The figure painted for the challenge is the horn blower. As this figure was the only Foundry cavalryman I had, I have tried to sell him on several occasions; glad now I didn't.

The other figure, also from Foundry has been rebased here from a unit of light cavalry. Thinking that rebasing should be repurposing as this is really what is being achieved.

Next are four speed painted Curtey Miniatures Early Saxons, painted for a gaming friend who wanted figures to use in a GURPS game he is running. Twenty minutes a figure, block and wash.

The spearhead broke and not for love nor money could I get it to stick back on. Recon it would still smart though.

Not really a fan of dipping or washing for shade on entire figures, that said it looks good and gritty here and will fit in well with the theme of the game they will be used in.

Next are another three stands of Late Crusader infantry from Gladiator Miniatures. These are also painted using block and wash, however this works better on this scale in my opinion.

Some classic Citadel Skeletons to go with the wights from previous post. Still rocking after all these years!

everybody conga!
Last but by no means least are three stands of bats for Hordes of The Things in 15mm. These will probably last longer on the table than on the shelf. Fragile to say the least.

So there ends the last Thursday entry and I calculate the points at

1x 28 mm Cavalry figures = 10 points
10 x 28mm infantry figures = 50 points
12 x 15mm infantry figures = 24 points
3 15mm stands = 6 points

For a total of 90 points

Cheers for now

Love the horn blowing late Roman cavalryman, really excellent work! The Saxons work really well, I can't really tell they've been speed painted,I think they're rather good. Nice to see some additions to your Crusaders, but my favourites are the old school skellies, oh and the bats are mad!
 90 points it is!

All the best Iain

From TomM: They where the terror of the woods... (80 points)

So this is it, the final wednesday entry for the AHPC8, and what a journey it has been!

This challenge is great fun, and very, very motivational on the painting front.

As has become a bit of a habbit for myself the past weeks, I've been painting up one of our Crisis entry models as the 'post opener' every time, and this time it's our Bokkenrijder (buckrider) we gave as entry model in 2010.

The Bokkenrijders where folklore figures that rode through the sky mounted on bucks, but also the inspiration for a band of ruffians operating in southern Limburg (a province in Flanders) during the 18th century.  They took the iconography like leaving a buck head sign on doors of raided farms to inspire terror in the local farming communities.  This link to the occult also resulted in many innocent men being tried and executed as being a bokkenrijder.

The model was sculpted by Paul Hicks as usual.  Now, to see the other Crisis models painted up when I get round to it, just glance at my little corner of the internet once in a while under The Vault tab of my page, or feel free to add me on Facebook or such.

But that isn't everything that I painted up this week, as I'm breaking through the 1500 points mark this week.  Like, just in time to double my target.

One project for this challenge I as such finished in the nick of time, is completing all those Gripping Beast plastic Dark Age warriors I had lying around, in the form of another two partial units of Bonnachts: one armed with swords and shield, the other with spears.

A small 'in between' entry are these 15mm Dark Dwarf cultists, produced by 15mm.co.uk and which I picked up years ago at Salute when I still planned to play HOTT (it never got 'launched' at the club though, so they just lingered around on the stack).

Another base of Shang Chinese spearmen has also been completed.  Nothing to impressive and I still don't know if I'm going to continue building on this force for the Mortem game, I will first have to see if the people at the club are convinced to try those rules.

And finally another small expansion for my 40k Slaneeshi legion, because a week without pink power is a week wasted.  The model is from the Raging Heroes line of figures, and I thought she made an excellent Herald for the deamonic compartment: both sexy and gruesome blended together in one vicious looking lady...

So for this week, that grants me the following points:

Bokkenrijder 1 x 28mm = 5 points
Bonnachts 8 x 28mm = 40 points
Cultists 4 x 15mm = 8 points
Shang Chinese 4 x 28mm = 20 points
Herald 1 x 28mm = 5 points

For a nice total of 78 points

And that is it, the final time I got to badger... I mean, bugger, Ray with my weekly entries.  Now all that is left if the very last entry on the final day, which for 'cycle completeness' will of course be 6mm epic forces for my Emperor's Children.

From Ray

An epic entry from you this week Tom. Lovin' the Bokkenrijder figure. I very envious of all the wonderful free Crisis figures you've picked up over the years. They're a great start to each post you'vr made and this ones just as good as the others.
The Oirish look great  as does the Chinese Warriors. Then we come to the Pink Princess, what a stunner!!
Pink Power is certainly all the rage in Belgium!
As for the points
78 and 2 more to add you to to 80 point!
