From TeemuL: The Last Ducks and Orcs (50 points)

My last post of the Challenge has elements of two of my favourite fantasy worlds, Glorantha and Middle-Earth. First Glorantha and heroic ducks. I recently painted first five of them here: Ducks from 2022. And now was the time to paint the rest and claim one more squirrel!

They being fantasy ducks and not real I was able to use varied colours - one of them is blue, another one is green, one yellow and light and dark grey pair to finish them off. I tried to again use a limited palette to tie them together, look unified, but not uniformed. So lots of greys, greens and browns, followed by wash and gentle drybrush. It is a miracle indeed how many colours you can shade with Reikland Fleshshade and drybrush with Caucasian Flesh and the end result is great! I give you hint, basically anything but blue and green on these ducks...

For those of you don't know, ducks from Glorantha are barbarians and live side by side with other barbarians following their Storm God called Orlanth. Ducks don't take criticism well, especially if it is targeted towards their height, size or skills with weapons. They are short tempered, I wonder if Donald Duck is related to them...

Times like these, Challenge coming to end, skull duel almost tied, every skull counting, it would be tempting to paint free hand skulls everywhere, for example on the shields of these ducks. But skull is not a symbol widely used in Glorantha, so one of them got a storm rune and other one got a luck rune. Whirling storm rune is also the mark of Orlanth. They are smallish minis, 20mm in height, but in 28mm scale and previously counted as 28mm so it would be 5 points per mini and total of 25 points and a "Glorantha Duck" squirrel.

<Enter some quack jokes here>

And lets move on. Here are five more Uruk-hais for my army. You might remember my earlier entry where I said these were surprisingly easy and fast to paint. So I primed five more and they were still easy and fast to paint. I need to remember that, because I have quite a lot of them waiting for paint.

The recipe is the same and since there are dozens of entries on the final hours, I'll save you from long rants. 5 minis for 25 points, no squirrels or skulls. 50 points total. Thank you and "See You In December!"

From Millsy:

One of my favourite aspects of Gloranthan lore is the quirkiness of it and the ducks are the epitome of that quirkiness. I would never have though to use such bright colours on them as you've done mate but it really works.

Lovely work Teemu and another 50 Lunars added to your tally.

PS. I tried to think of a duck joke that would quack you up but couldn't manage it.

Cheers,
Millsy

From MattW: More Dredd & odds (75 points)

 More Dredd -MattW

Another week of mixed bits off the desk, a mix of gangs and individual characters from the Dredd World, plus a Star Wars figure and two figures from my 70s ganglands of Brooklyn game.

The Blints

The perfect murderous couple, the couple are one of Mega Citi serial killers. Homer would find the target and his wife Oola Blint “the Angel of Mercy” a bored housewife would then remove the unfortunate citizen. They began as utilitarian killers, removing those they thought were not offering Mega Citi any benefits, but later randomly killed any citizen, leaving behind their calling card, a red rose. It is thought they have killed over 300 citizens of Mega Citi, the Blints escape to Brit Citi before being caught by Judge Dredd.

East MEG agent - Nardia

The eastern communist agents had many roles, assassin, sabotage, espionage, they sowed decent, sponsored protest and sponsored block wars among the citizens, anything to cause unrest in society following the Socialist playbook of disruption.

Futsie Citizen

A “Futsie” a citizen that has snapped and has future shock and is delusioned about the future and effectively has gone mad at the world around him. Many working assembly jobs that require human hands doing repetitive brain numbing work such as Charlie the riveter below.

Karl Raider Vigilante

Karl Raider is a tragic, a rogue ex-Judge, a contemporary and rival of Joe & Rico Dredd. Raider became a vigilante in City Bottom after leaving the force due to love and loss. He's remembered as a skilled gunslinger embodying the dark side of justice in Mega-City One

Joe Banana, Character, a fine chimp!

A main member of the east side monkey Mafia Gang of sector 10, a genetically modified ape, they run the distribution of illegal goods, fresh foods and spread political pamphlets printed in sector 66 (monkey town) and infiltrate the whole bottom of mega city. A GW Dredd figure

Vestal Virgins

More additions to the Vestal Virgins, more punks and a Heavy, all Warlord Games figures

Citi Def Hurley block sector 10

Two more for the Hurley Block Citi Defence, both mongoose plastic figures

Muties Among Us

A Mutie from Citadel 2000ad range, I need to find some more to get my gang up to 10 figures at least

Star Wars

A certain pilot of a certain starship! Not sure of the manufacturer

Feeling Lucky Punk - 1970s Gangland Warfare for East Brooklyn

I have commenced writing a set of skirmish rules for 1970s, Dirty Harry style police game with car chases, bank robberies and dealing cookies!

One of the Jackson 7….. a resin figure from Reaper

Disgruntled vigilante, sick of the crime in his neighborhood…. Not sure of the manufacturer

28mm figures @5 points x 15 figures = 75 points

Squirrel - 1 point Ganglands East Brooklyn

Cheers
Matt

From Millsy:

What a cracking collection Matt! So much to like about these miniatures - crisp brushwork, great colour choices and wonderful sculpts.

I particularly like Joe Banana. His pin stipes are absolutely amazing, consistent and following the contours of his suit perfectly and his face is so expressive.

Lovely brushwork mate. 75 wonderful points. Love em!

From MattW: Judge Dredd Hurley Block & Planet of the Apes (105 points)

Hurley Block

Vestal Virgins

My first Perp gang for my Judge Dredd collection are the Vestal Virgins for the Liz Hurley block in sector 10. The Vestal Virgins are named after Liz Hurley‘s Punk Rock band, I have elected to paint them in bright red clothing, with white highlights, white boots, armour and pink hair. The figures are a mix of Warlord Games Resin Judge Dredd range and Mongoose Publishing Block Wars figures with green stuff added Mohawks and some sculpted body armour.

Citi-Def

A Citi Defence unit for Hurley Block using a mix Mongoose plastics with a bit of green stuff and a future soldier for the leader. I elected to use a simple brown and cream palette, really happy with the result, basing is simple grey to match my asphalt table top roads.

Para 3 Bots

I picked these up off eBay about 5 weeks ago to add to my Dredd collection, they are circa 1978 and I had a few in the mid 80s which I used in Rouge trader games, God knows were they ever got too. The figs originally were West End Games for the Paranoia Game I think, then citadel purchased the rights to produce the figure while in Newark. Citadel released the figures as Para 3 Bots. They come with separate tops and bottoms so you can mix and match to suit roles and were random in the box of 3.

2 Fast food bots on wheel base, for my yet to be named Nachos and cheese restaurant (ideas anyone)

A Dental Bot and Maid bot

A heavy lifter and security bot

Planet of the Apes

I picked up these chimps from a bring and buy stall at Partizan this year in a 1£ bucket, they have a very Socialist/communist vibe about them, the chimp with the hammer also had a sickle but I removed that and intend to add a flag at some stage. I elected to paint them in worker blue clothing. They will join my Ape collection.

 Major Tom

I also picked up this spaceman in the same box and opted for a orange suit for him, really happy with my colour selection. He will join my generic space figures.

Total 28mm Figures  @ 5 points = 21 Figures

Total points 105 points

Squirrel 3 points (Dredd, Planet of the Apes, Spaceman)

Robots = 30

Cheers
Matt

From Millsy:

This is a very cool collection Matt. The vibrant colours are spectacular! The Vestial Virgins have a definite Necromunda vibe going on and the Citi-Def are reminiscent of early 40K Cadians too. Nice work and 105 points added to your total.

Cheers,
Millsy
