KentG - another building for my new Samurai project (30 points)

The 3D print arrived mid week, sadly the windows have lots of

Misprints but still the building will look good on the table

Though it good to put a figure in proportion

Wow, yet more amazing looking Japanese terrain from Kent!  I get that the print may not be perfect, but from the images it still looks great and I am sure everyone will be thrilled to play with this terrain on the table.  Since this appears to be the biggest building yet, and 2 story, I have upped the points a bit for it to 30 points.  Great work Kent!  

As a side note, when you are done with all the buildings you are painting this year, it would be awesome to see a full table picture.

KentG 28mm feudal Japanese Terrian (45pts)

I decided to d a few more Terrain paces for my feudal Japanese project

Really pleased with how the buildings are painting up, they are really challenging 

To get the brush in to paint the panels, but well worth the time

Size 130x 150 x 100

This next one look great on the table but the printing wasn’t as good 

Not as smooth so a lot harder to paint and I don’t think photographed 

As well, I did want it to look a little older which is why I changed the roof 

With some extra colors

Size 180 x 165 x 120

I spent a wee while getting some glue to look like water coming out of the fountain 

Not as easy to see, but it really looks cool, I had my family 

Come round last night and they all had the same reaction to the water effect 

Which was what I was looking for.

This wee piece is one of my favorites 

I used gloss varnish for the water effect this time

Size 40 round

This is a pretty simple terrain piece which could be in the town square 

Size 80 round 90 high

Wow, more great terrain and painting Kent!  Keep them coming!

Having just painted an FDM printed building last week, it has renewed my hatred of the medium, and I am amazed at the very nice look you are getting from your paint jobs here.  I despise the rough nature of them, but you seem to get a very nice look to yours, well done! 

These two buildings are great, they appear both bigger and more detailed than the last batch, so I am going to score 20 points each for you, and add another 5 points for the simple little gazebo and pond, both are very nice. 

I am getting very jealous of your terrain collection and wished we lived closer to be able to play on the same table, great work!

From KentG: 28mm Ninja’s and monks + Samurai (125pts)

Firstly I’d like to apologise for not commenting much

On so many wonderful submissions, normally I do this at 

Work as my iPad I just can’t seem to be able to.

Work has been crazy with very few moments to do anything.

I love commenting so hope to be able to soon

This week I’m back to my Feudal Japan project thought I’d paint up 

Some worrier monks, ninjas and a couple of Samurai in civilian clothing

These monks(Sohei) are Perry Miniatures metals painted to be in the service

Of Taira Clan UJI(KYOTO) June - 1180

It wasn’t till I took the photos that I realised I had painted many of the

 figures exactly the same, I’m really please with these fellas,

 I have a few more to do but the figures are from grey for now games.

Next up 10 ninjas and for some reason I had been put these ones off

They are painted up in the service of Uesugui Kenshin summer of 1559

This is another of the Perry figures, didn’t realise how many I had bought

Still enjoy them, I decided I needed to do a few that were not so finely dressed

This is a footsore miniatures figure from their Ronin set, 

I decided the complete opposite with this miniature 

Decorating him up as much as I could, but hopefully 

Not to much

Here they are mixing it up together

Oooh! These are just gorgeous Kent.

The black clothing on the ninjas has plenty of depth and your yellows and browns are rich and warm. All of that, despite how good it is, pales in comparison to your lone Ronin. His clothing is spectacular and matches so well to his basing.

And that final picture. What a wonderful way to showcase your work this week. It makes we want to crack out the old Shintaro shows and dive right in.

Right up to your usual standard mate and fully deserving of 125 points.

From GrahamB - Samurai and other Japanese and Medievals (230 points)

This week’s submission featuring my favourite brown Dulux paint is the start of my Sengoku period Samurai project.  I already have skirmish forces for Test of Honour - these new figures will be used for full tabletop battles with the Warlord Games' "Pike and Shotte: Samurai Wars" supplement. The first units are for an Ikko Ikki force including some of the peasants that will make up around half of the planned initial army.

The first unit is a unit of Warlord Games Ona-Bugeisha, female Samurai. In the game that could be used to represent peasants, Samurai or Ashigaru, depending on the army composition. They started with a white undercoat followed by speedpaints/contrast paints. For me the paint is not pigment heavy enough on its own so I dry brushed highlights with normal’ paint.

The next unit is some Ashigaru skirmishers, part of a job lot eBay purchase. I believe those to be from the veteran 25mm Dixon’s Miniatures range that in its day set the standard for Samurai. They are a little dated compared to more recent sculpts but paint up nicely. They are two to a base to represent skirmishers and are led by what I think is a Minifigs Samurai with Teppo.

Today’s third contingent comprises three units each of 3 bases of peasants armed with spears and various improvised weapons and farm tools. They will count as spearmen in Pike and Shotte. They are from assorted makers including Perry, AW Miniatures, 1st Corps and a few 3d prints from Wargames Atlantic. 

The 4th contingent is a base of two “fire starters”; medieval or renaissance peasants or castle defenders who will send their flaming spears and firebrands onto attackers that have just had oil poured over them. One of the figures is from Irregular Miniatures and the other is from Wargames Atlantic's Barons War Peasant set. The Warlord Landsknecht supplement includes siege rules for these guys. I rarely use contrast paints but the lurid green has sort of worked but is a bit bright for a peasant. Maybe he stole the smock!

I calculate the points for this posting as follows;

9 x 28mm Ona Bugeisha @ 5pts = 45;  6 x 25mm/28mm Ashigaru @ 5pts = 30; 29 Ikko Ikki peasants @ 5pts = 145 and finally 2 castle fire starters @5pts = 10 pts for a grand total of 230 points.

Well this is quite the pile of figures Graham! The brushwork is fine, but what I enjoy most is the huge assortment of manufactures. I really like a project that can bring such a wide variety of sculptors and castings together under a single umbrella. 

I too would like to attempt the "Sengoku" period of Japan for gaming, but I just can't quite seem to get it going...one day perhaps! Until then, I will vicariously enjoy the efforts of hobbyists like you. Well done!

From Kent G: 28mm Feudal Japanese (pts 120)

Well here we are this is the start of my new project

I went a little crazy earlier in the year and bought 

84 boxes of Perry Samurai and Korean metals

now I finally get time to focus on the and 

give them the attention they deserve.

I kind of painting them in sets for playing TOH

but also looking towards painting for larger battles

I have to admit I still know very little about the period

so please forgive me if I make a few mistakes along the way.

The general in this picture is from one of the sets I purchased

so I painted him exactly as the Perry site

I bought so many sets of these larger banners, and I love them

I have plans to do some highly detailed version but thought I'd start off slowly

I've started my next Clan and hope to show them off in a week or two, 

I got side tracked by another project past couple of days which I'm also 

excited to present this week fingers crossed.

Next up a couple off cool figures from another command pack.

You probably can't see it but the red and purple on

 the horses have five layers of colour, just part of my madness.

For points 20 x 28mm @ 5pts = 100pts

2 x 28mm cav @ 10 pts 20pts

Grand total of 120 pts

Very nice indeed Kent. Hearing you talk on and off for a while about your Japanese project has been tempting to say the least and these are not helping maintain a level of resistance I have to say.

The bold colour choices and detail you've packed in here really suits them. Lovely stuff!
