From TeemuL: Horticulous Slimux on Mulch (25 points)

Horticulous Slimux the Grand Cultivator of the Garden of Nurgle. I know many of the participants are eager gardeners, this miniature is a humble tribute to all of you. This is my second copy of the same miniature. First one I painted as part of Nurgle Daemon army for Age of Sigmar and I got this second one as a Christmas gift shortly after and decided to bring him as an ally for my Death Guard army for Warhammer 40000. I didn't have any daemons in my 40k army and I was struggling to figure how to paint him as a daemon, but still part of the army. Problem was solved by dropping out of 40k gaming... But since this was a gift, I felt obliged to paint it and year ago I assembled and primed it for previous Challenge, but never got further. Slimux has been staring at me for a year, so I decided I have to paint him and figure the colours while going. I have been painting him for a month, most often focusing on the other minis, because I didn't know what colours to use and how to paint.

In the end I followed the colours of my Death Guard army and tried to do my best with organic surface. I guess it is ok. Some of my Death Guard shown here: Death Guard. Hmm, six years ago... Time flies like a fly.... So the mount and rider are both quite white, that's basically white paint under Reikland Fleshshade. Then there are some greens to show connection to Nurgle and orange contrasts that nicely. And the combination of colours looks rather sick. Horns, nails, bones and similar are yellowish and woods are dark brown, looking a bit rotten I hope.

Rather new multipart plastic Warhammer 40k/AoS Nurgle Daemon special character. Barks and others, I'm quite sure you all are eagerly counting the skulls on this beauty! There are none...

I'm currently at the fourth circle of Abyss and next one would be Wrath, but I'd like to travel to Violence instead. I'm not fast enough to go through all the locations. Traditionally a female figure has been accepted as a passage to a different location, but this year devils and daemons are accepted, too, in the Abyss. Slimus is definitely a Nurgle Deamon looks a daemon enough, not sure about the female... In case he/she is a mortal and not a daemon, the Nurgling used as a bait is definitely a daemon. So I should be safe.

And the points... Is this a cavalry model? Or vehicle? Vehicle with a crewman/daemon? Or two crewmembers? How many points? Well, at least 10 for a cavalry, but Mulch is rather big, so might be counted as a vehicle, too. The oval base is 105x70mm. I'll leave the decision to knowable hands of minion Sarah.

Hi Teemu

If I were to see this creature-thingy in my garden beds,  I would feel the need to either crush it with my spade or to spray it with some sort of toxic weed killer. Actually, I lie ... I would shriek and hope Curt would come to my rescue!

I rule that it's very much a 'vehicle' and am adding another 5 (Minion's Whim) for the 'yuck' factor and I allow you to pass on to the Violence circle of hell.

25 points to your tally

From Kyle C - Director's Chair Entry - (153)

Bring on the final boss!!!

So reaching out to the almighty Snowlord.. I was tasked to complete a project that has been a bit overdue.. or I was procrastinating on..

Well this bad boi has been just that! Again for a client but with hesitation. I had painted one of these years and years ago while living in Turkey for myself. So I know how bad they can be with normal paints and no airbrush. But I thought hey.. I have contrast paints AND an airbrush.. this should be easy! 😏

Painting wise honestly it wasn't bad. Though being in only 2 pieces ( head and well everything else ) due to buddy assembling it before bringing it over.. caused new headaches there 😅

Though in reality it was more the mental struggle of actually starting it due to how much grief it gave me in the past.

So shout out to Curt for this challenge and for giving me such a task to aim for here.

And since it's a Badmoon Stompa.. it has to be yellow! So after a white primer.. all of my yellow paints were pulled out. That and yellow tinted browns. And then browns.

The purple bits were his choice as his other army is a Emperors Children force so this has reclaimed parts from them it seems.

All in this took a good portion of the weekend and Friday night to tackle. With some touch ups throughout the workdays as time allowed. But it's done and dusted so there is that then!

Hilariously.. the crew on it will give me just as many points as the Stompa itself lol

I was also able to tackle the Skull Temple for my Khorne Age of Sigmar force which I have resurrected due to the club picking it up again..so tried to see how I would tackle red and bronze/gold like coloring. Stuck it to a hardboard base also to give it a bit of something extra.

Actually got to use it this week at the club while we trialed the AoS rules out ( haven't played before ) and it did ok. My other Khorne Priest stood upon it and took hits like a champ defending it so that is a positive for me there!

Also tackled a Skulltaker for my Deamons to trial their color scheme also.

I foresee a lot of red in my future with this army..

His cloak with a lot of fun to play with and I think it came out quite well!

Not sure how many skulls are included in these two. But that's not a side duel I joined so not sure about if I wish to try to count them all 🤣

Last up is some Ork crew members. The buggies were painted pre-challenge but their passengers were all left overs as I was not aware of them when I began the project. So had a bit of extra work to tackle there.

So a very slow week for me here.. and going to get slower as work has really increased this month and a trip abroad coming up to really take me out at the knees! But a lot has been accomplished while I could, and while recovering.. and accomplished my 2 goals.. hit my points total and get to the director's chair challenge! Huzzah!

Points for this week are:

Stompa - 28mm Vehicle - 20 pts
4 Crew on Stompa - 28mm infantry - 20 pts
14 Passengers on buggies - 28mm infantry - 70 pts
Skulltaker - 28mm infantry - 5 pts
Skull Temple - Almost a cube terrain - 18 pts
Director's Chair Studio - 20 pts
Total - 153 pts

Let's see if I tackle anything else this week for painting or if a proper rest for the next few will be occurring!

Minion Miles - very orky and very nicely painted - 5 bonus points because this post made me yell WAUGHHHH!!!!!!

From StuartL - Sanguinary Correspondence - Lady Sarah's Limousine - 75 Points

Hello all,

Today I need to pay up for another Limousine ride across the studios. Last time around, I entered some models for the World Cinema section of the studio and now I want to scoot over to the Sci-Fi area.

I forgot to attach a map to my last post, better late than never I suppose.

So, as payment, I am putting forward this steampunk witch from Reaper Bones. She has a mechanical hand and a motorised broom. No reason why you shouldn't have all of the latest tech when you're out casting spells and hexing people.

The model was painted using a popular Contrast over Zenithal technique for the most part, but the purple, metallics and skin were done using standard paints. This figure will go into my collection of RPG figures in case I ever run a steampunk game.

To accompany this model, I have also been working on some Chaos Daemons for Warhammer.

These figures are Bloodletters, minor daemons of Khorne the god of war and slaughter. I did a batch of these last year and these will join them in my slowly growing army. Daemons are the only army that can be used in Warhammer Age of Sigmar and Warhammer 40,000. Hopefully they will soon be able to be used in the current edition of Warhammer 30,000 which is where I want to use them. GW seem to be dragging their feet releasing new rules content for the Horus Heresy.

The unit comes with a choice of standards, one with a giant icon (that I painted in the last challenge) and this large banner here. The banner is totally blank, so I had to paint on a motif for the unit. I opted for a giant skull along with the eight pointed star of chaos, and of course liberal splashings of gore.

The unit was fairly quick and easy to paint being largely just drybrushing various shades of red and a couple of odd spot colours here and there. I may yet do more daemons in this challenge, we shall see. These do net me a point for the Squirrel duel and my first point for the Skullz duel.

For scoring:
11x 28mm minis @5 points = 55 Points
1 Limousine ride @20 points = 20 Points

Total = 75 Points

My side duels:

Squirrels - 6
Anglo-Saxons, Vikings, Dwarves, Fire Giants, WW2 Polish, Daemons

Skullz - 1

Turnips - 0

Next up, a visit to the far future and some SF action.

A steampunk witch?! Who knew? No matter, she definitely looks the part with her steam-driven broom and clockwork hand. I know Sarah will be pleased with her.

Also, what a great mob of Bloodletters, Stuart. The doorknockers of Khorne, before the really nasty guys show up.  I like how their blue horns and tongues provide a great counterpoint to their red flesh. 'Nice' banner too! Yeeash...

From StuartL - Blood for the Blood God - 65 Points

Hello all,
The Snow Lord has confirmed that we are weapons free, so here we go with (hopefully) the first of several posts this week.

I have already cleared everything in the Challenge Quadrant, so I'm just working on clearing out some of the primed minis that I had lying around. First off is a set of 10 Lesser Daemons of Khorne, commonly known as Bloodletters for Warhammer 40,000.

These models were all really easy to paint up. I started with a black undercoat and then dry-brushed them with brighter and brighter shades of red, covering less of the model with each coat. I then added some blue/grey paint to the teeth, claws and horns, as well as some really bright blue to the tongue. A bit of bronze and brass highlights to the swords and the figures were pretty much done.

I also managed to get a giant golem done. This is from Reaper Bones, a part of their Greek Odyssey expansion from their last kickstarter. This chunky fellow stands about 75mm tall, and came with a simple sculpted base.

The majority of the model was painted in bronze, then dry-brushed with brass to give it a bit more of a shine. I gave it leather pteruges and painted the central plate to break up the metallics. Finally, a crest of bright red up top adds a nice splash of colour.

The Bloodletters are standard GW 28mm models, so for 10 of them that should be 50 points. The golem is pretty hefty, but was fairly simple to paint, so maybe 15 points is appropriate? That should give me a total of 65 points.

The Bloodletters have 4 skulls on their standard which can be added to my side duel total. It seems like quite a small number for GW minis to be honest.
Skullz Total 132.

Lovely work Stuart! The Bloodletters are suitably nasty, I especially like the counterpoint of their blue-grey horns and tongues (eww).  My favourite though, is the Greek golem. The metalwork is excellent, but what really makes it work is the white enamel on his belly armour. Ace that. Not sure of the height of the Golem, but he seems like a rather large lad, so we'll go with your 15 points.

From NickJ - Bloodletters (55 Points)

Once upon a Dimensional Rift...

The Challenge has been successful! This unit has been built and sat on my shelf looking very sad in its grey plastic form for the best part of 2 years.

And now, they are transformed!

This unit of 10 Bloodletters, representing the somewhat blood-thirsty God Khorne, has been painted in the favourite outfit of red.
If you remember my army for AoS is called Cult of the Pentagram and is a Chaos Grand Alliance affair. Last week we saw the first faction: Skaven and this week is the second Penta(?) - the Chaos Daemons.
There were supposed to be more offerings this week but my ability to procrastinate over paint schemes and change my mind multiple times during the painting process are both obstacles to overcome. One day. Maybe.

Let's just say that the swords and banner went through various schemes before settling on the final versions. The swords are probably twice as thick as they were with the various layers of abandoned paint on them!

The bases are done to tabletop standards and tufts etc will be added once I've actually remembered to order some... yes I have something of an interesting approach to planning...

All banners in the army should now follow this example and will eventually have pentagrams painted on them. Assuming I don't get in trouble for my continued internet searches on "How to draw the perfect Pentagram".

Work have decided I need to travel thousands of miles from my painting for the next couple of weeks so normal service will be resumed at the beginning of February. Adds a certain "Flippin' Eck!" to the whole 500 point target deadline...

MilesR: Nick, these are very nicely done, I'm also throwing in an extra 5 points for the very nicely done banner for a grand total of 55 points
