From KentG: 28mm Samurai foot (135 points)

Well even though I wanted to be working on my Barons wars figures, 

I find myself painting my Japanese again, and I have to say I'm loving every 

moment maybe my colors aren't historically perfect but what 

the heck they will look good on the table, the figures will be used for 

multiple periods so the Sashimono's aren't specific to anything.

In the last picture you will see a bannerman with a red banner, 

I painted him before the challenge so he is not included in the points

 but was my test figure for the clan color set.

The Ashigaru figures are some of my favorite to paint

and these lads really pop, spent way to long on them but what the heck.

Love painting the big banners, there are 2 layers of blue one of

 sliver grey and 2 washes of white to create the white banner,

I know you can't see that depth but in person it's there and I'm really

 pleased with the effect the writing on the banner was just a one go freehand

all or nothing, was more afraid of recking all those layers of white,

hardest part was making sure it all fitted on the banner.

the figures below are my latest samurai in civilian dress 

and if I  i spent to long on the figures above oh boy did I get lost

painting these, I spent 4 hours plus on the first figure alone

the figure is 28mm from Footsore Miniatures.

the figure to the right was missing his hand holding the hilt 

so i used a hand from a plastic wargames Atlantic set and a hilt 

from a Fireforge Samurai set, there was another

 broken figures and even one missing, I got an 

email this morning from them saying replacements were on the way

These three characters are from the Perry set which i 

bought two or three sets of, not quite sure why I got so many

The figure from Footsore miniatures again is probably my

favorite and I lost track on the hours spent layering his coat and 

clothing

Wow, another lovely batch of Samurai mate! I really like the palette you've chosen with flashes of colour contrasted with the earthy tones. The patterning on the fabrics is a lovely touch and really elevates these too.

From ScottM: Historical Drama - Ashigaru & Rocket Bikes (160 pts)

My last post for this year's challenge is a two-parter. First up is my last studio location.

Historical Drama - With thoughts of Akira Kurosawa rolling around in my head, for this location I went with a couple more bases for my ongoing Samurai armies project. These are two bases of Ashigaru with yari. These are 28mm metal figs from Kingsford Miniatures.

I had run out of the larger decals for my sashimono and had to use the smaller ones, so they look a little odd unfortunately.

Scoring: 16 - 28mm foot figs + location bonus = 100 points

And for my last set of figures I painted up a trio of rocket bikes. These 28mm resin figs are from Bombshell Miniatures.

Scoring: 3 - 28mm vehicles = 60 points

Scoring Total: 160 points

That ends this year's challenge for me. See you all next year!

Friday minion: Hey again Scott, great to see you back with one last post. Those Ashigaru look lovely indeed, the basing is really effective. and the Bombshell miniatures bikes are great pulpy silliness, great choice of colours. My favourite is the red one because it clearly goes fastest.

I believe this puts you over your 500 points target, congratulations! Great to have you with us this challenge, may your brushes ever move swiftly. 

From ScottM: Altar of the Snowlord - Samurai (105 pts)

Our brave adventurer finally reaches the last room of the Chambers of Challenges: the Altar of the Snowlord. Our hero steps into the room and looks over his shoulder and yes, his help has arrived. Into the room stream a contingent of samurai and their ashigaru retainers.

These figures are all 28mm metal. The samurai base and teppo base are all from Kingsford Miniatures. The command base is from Steel Fist Miniatures. I've based these figures up for Impetus. First up is the samurai base.

Next up is the base of Teppo.

And finally is the command base. This figure is Ishida Mitsunari, the loser of the Battle of Skegihara (with his head still attached).

So that should be:

15 - 28mm foot figures = 75 points

1 - 28mm cavalry figure = 10 points

Total = 85 + 20 (Chamber bonus) = 105 points

From ScottM: Ashigaru Archers (30 points)

Merry Christmas all! For my first submission of this years paint challenge I went with 2 skirmish bases of 28mm Ashigaru Archers. These metal figs are from Kingsford Miniatures. They're based up for Impetus.

One of my painting resolutions for 2020 was to get done 3 bases of samurai/ashigaru. These bases, coupled with work done in last year's challenge will finish that resolution, so the year isn't a total bust.

So that should be 6 - 28mm foot figs = 30 points.

From ScottM: Samurai arrive at Snow Lord's Peak (145 Points)

For my climb onto Snow Lord's Peak, I went with a submission of some samurai figs. I've been working on this samurai project for a number of years. I pretty much have one army complete, and these figs will go towards the second army. At the rate I'm going I should be done somewhere around 2030.

These figs are all 28mm metal. All the infantry are from Steel Fist Miniatures and the cavalry is from TAG (The Assault Group). I've base up my figs so they could be used for Impetus and eventually when it comes out Command and Colors: Samurai. This first base is a group of Ashigaru with yari.

I was originally planning on doing two bases of Teppo instead of the yari troops, but the Steel Fist Teppo I had were actually really crappy casts. They're sitting on my shelf right now and I'm debating whether just to grind through them painfully or just pitch them. Argh!

Next up is a base of Steel Fist Samurai. These guys' armour tends to vary all over the place when it comes to style.

And finally is a base of mounted warrior monks. These figs are actually the first miniatures from TAG I've ever painted and I really enjoyed painting them. They're nice and clean and not loaded down with crap.

And here is the lot all together.

And that completes Snow Lord's Peak! From here I think I'm going to wander down the Path of the New Shiny.

So that should be:
15 28mm foot figs + 3 28mm cavalry figs = 105 +30 (location bonus) = 135 points.

Oooh, these look fabulous Scott. Steel Fist and TAG? Awesome quality minis here, though I'm sorry you've had some quality issues with the Steel Fist offerings. It's terrific that you've given us the 'greatest hits', ashirgaru, warrior monks and samurai. The mon and heraldic devices are superb (I'm especially taken by the fellow with the butterfly). I usually go with low-profile bases, but I have to say I really like the look of your more chunky approach. 

I'm going to give another 10 points for all the flags and fiddly banners/devices.
