From SteveM: Royal Jordanian Army Mechanised Company (200 Points)

This entry is for a Royal Jordanian Army Mechanised Company for Battlefront's "Fate of a Nation" ruleset. The ruleset covers the Arab Israeli conflicts from 1967 through 1973.

It took a bit to complete these as I had to find the infantry blister in the backlog pile. Took some digging but eventually found them. Now I have to find the rest of the support units to fill out this army.

From ClintB - 6mm Meshah Meykanekeyh (30 points)

The second of Clint's entries today (he's got at least one more in the pipeline).

Please forgive the photography. Yes I know we all say that and we all mean it as well. Today an infantry company for my 6mm Arab-Israeli wars (1967) Six day war project. Although as it stands this is a complete company I will add another platoon as soon as I am able, but I for the moment have run out of mdf bases. I feel a small purchase is needed.

All the figures are Heroics and Ros. 1/300th scale or 6mm in wargames speak! The company consists of:

  • HQ Platoon. A single BTR 152 APC with a Command stand.
  • 1st Platoon consists of. 2 BTR 152 APCs, 1 command AK 47 assault rifle stand and 1 Blindicide antitank stand and 5 AK47 Assault rifle stands
  • 2nd Platoon consists of. 2 BTR 152 APCs, 1 command  AK 47 assault rifle stand and 1 Blindicide antitank stand and 5 AK47 Assault rifle stands
So a total of 5 vehicles and 40 foot fingers mounted in 2 or 3 figures to a bases. Ok I will admit purists will want 4 figures to an Assault rifle base but I just ran out of figures and bases and have cut them down to 3 figures on each infantry base. In the game it will make no effect at this scale so I am happy to continue in this manner.

So the ARAB forces slowly grow. I will also be doing some Israeli infantry at a later date.

At least we aren't in peril of summoning any Shoggoths with the name of this lot!
Some nice additions to your Six Day War project Clint. These will score you 30 points.

From ClintB - 1/300 Arab Tanks (Kuteybh Debabh) (28 Points)

Nope, no NOT "Ph'nglui mglw'nafh Cthulhu R'lyeh wgah'nagl fhtagn."Maybe before the end ofte challenge though! Today 14 T55 tanks in Egyptian and United Arab Republic Livery. 2 Tanks as Battalion HQ and 2 Companies each of 6 Tanks. (at least to start with).

The T55 was by no means the best tank of the 6 day war but it was so much better then many of the other Arab tanks many of which were of WW2 vintage mostly in the form of  Soviet JS 3's and T34/85's. (or even Syrian Panzer IV's, which I will not be painting anytime soon.)

There is more to add to the Battalion, and Infantry and Antitank companies will follow at some juncture, probably with an Artillery Battalion a scout company and an Air defense company.

I will be using the Flames of War rules as while they are not the best rules for the period (I Prefer "Challenger II" as my favoured rule set,) they do allow for games to be played easily with little fuss and at the club that is all to the good.

But in this project nothing with more tentacles than it should have. For now though just T55's. I may start a T34/85 or a JS3 company to fight along side, But that is the future and anything could distract me easily!

I should Thank "Big Lee" for leading me into this after I followed his WW2 western Desert 6mm exploits! So thanks Lee.

Now I had best start the Nostalgia entry. And put the little tanks away for a while.

Thanks for looking. All the best Clint

Those are some good lookin' tracks Clint. I especially like the engineering versions spec'ed for minesweeping and bulldozing - very cool. Too bad you can't use your 'Challenger II' rules, but I understand wanting to keep things simple with a mixed crowd.

These 14 Arab AFVs will give you 28 points.

From ClintB - Starting Small 1/300 Mig-17 (2 Points)

Yes I am starting small! Just a single 6mm (1/300th Scale) vehicle. A Mig 17 (fresco in Nato identification) in Egyptian markings circa 1967.

The vehicle model is By "Heroics and Ross" while the flight stand is by "Frontline". I am sticking in the desert for my main project this challenge but no longer WW1 Arab Revolt so I will not be painting Camels. Instead I am coming more up to date with a war I can vaguely remember. Actually I cannot I think I remember the 73 war!

Anyway this should get me off the mark with just a couple of points. But out of the blocks is out of the blocks. This starts the making of my United Arab Republic force for battles in the Sinai. I will be working on the ground forces more than the air forces but  with a simple silver finish and markings this was just too easy not to start with.

Nothing like buzzing the Pyramids in a Mig17! Nice job Clint!
I have a faint recollection of the newscasts of the Yom Kippur War (I was quite young back then). I remember it being quite a shock to the West to the battering the Israelis received in the first few days of the conflict (and in retrospect how close we came to the brink of nuclear war). What rules will you be using for this project?
