The Challenge Library

Hi All!

My apologies for the longer than normal wait on this. Both Sid and I have been hellaciously busy this past month, but we finally have the Challenge Library ready for its grand opening on the 21st.

The Rules:

1) Participants have to complete at least two (2) Topics within a Section before moving on to a connected Section of the Library (or use Lady Sarah's Book Cart - see below). There are six Sections to the Library. We all start at the Entrance (Section 1) and go from there.

2) Each successfully completed Topic awards 20 Bonus Points!

3) Four (4) Sections (8 Topics) need to be achieved before a Challenger can enter the Rare and Antique Book area for their final challenge. This challenge will be negotiated between the participant and myself - hopefully something fun and not too, too ludicrous. The Rare and Antique Book area will be worth 40 Bonus Points upon completion.

4) Sarah’s Library Cart: For the cost of a painted female figure, it will allow a participant to move to Topics within a previously unlocked Sections in the Library, or to leap to another new Section if you've completed a Section. Also, the use of the Cart awards you 20 Bonus Points!

5) You can freely move through Topics you've completed (meaning you don't have to do them again if you wish to backtrack).

Now, on to the themes!

Section 1 (Entrance)

History: In the AHPC Library History is not written by the victors, but by our painters!

Fantasy: Tolkien? GRR Martin? Any fantasy hack actually. Have at it!

Children’s Books: Something sweet for the kiddies, or perhaps something darker, maybe a little Edward Gorey?

Overdue and Returns: Those things that you've been working on, or have been avoiding, but are willing to come back to.

New Acquisitions: Give us something brand new and shiny.

Section 2

Maritime: Something wet and offshore.

Famous Person: The plaque says it all.

Romance: 'When the Moonlight hits your eye, like a big pizza pie, that's Amore.’ Be a darling and paint something romantic, will you?

Local History: Something from the history of your own land, region or town.

Section 3

Art: Tap into your muse and show you artistic side, or perhaps do something about an artistic subject.

Nature: The great outdoors, or perhaps underground. Maybe outer space!

Gift Shop: Something for someone else. A thoughtful gift. The cost of entry to a paint duel perhaps.

Section 4 (Rotunda Main Level)

Literature: Show us something snooty and highbrow. Why use 10 words when 10,000 will do.

DIY: Kitbashing, custom terrain, things that make us glue our fingers together!

Section 5 (Rotunda Upper Level)

Manga/Graphic Novels: Superheroes and big robots piloted with girls with purple hair!

Science Fiction: From Edgar Rice Burrows to William Gibson, show us something from sci-fi literature or pulp!

Travel: Something that impressed you from your own travels.

Section 6

True Crime: Robbery! Graft! Murder! (clutches pearls!) Paint something that screams criminality.

Cooking: Be it food, diets or perhaps simply the act of making food.

Oversize Books: For those things that are better when bigger.

Self Help: What calms you down and makes you happy!

Biography/Autobiography: Something about someone else, or perhaps something about you!

Rare & Antique Book Room: Yes, the final room. The Head Librarian/Archivist zealously oversees this last room and sets special requirements for entry.

Lady Sarah’s Book Cart: The book cart allows a challenger to move to another Topic within Sections that they have access, for the low, low ‘cost' of a female figure. You can also utilize it to zip to another Section after you've completed two or more topics of the Section that you're in.

There you have it - The Challenge Library! We hope you enjoy your visit, and remember to return your books before their due date!
