From KentG: 28mm Crusades cavalry & English civil war 28mm regiment of Foote (310pts)

Kicking of this week with 6 Templars cav by Perry Miniatures
They are metals and I had so much fun painting them

Next up another five  knights and a couple of clergy but this time
Generic mix I think I’m getting addicted to painting these shields
They are. A challenge but at the same time so satisfying when they are finished

Here’s a couple of close ups of a few shields

This is the last of the clergy boxset, I think these will be a great addition
To some game scenario’s

Next up is commission where the chap said just do what you want so I chose
John Talbots regiment of Foote
Simply wanted to have another crack at yellow

The regiments made up of 8 pike 4 command figures and 24
Shot sorry I forgot to take a pic of them all together.

Really pleased with my new crack at the yellow

The customer isn’t to keen on flowers or grass tufts

The figures are all renegade miniatures
Sadly you can’t get these anymore because they are
So nice to paint up.

So let’s total up the weeks points

             36 x 28mm infantry @ 5pts each  = 180 pts
             13 x 28mm cavalry well ones a donkey @10pts = 130
              Total of 310pts

From Millsy:

Another gorgeous crop of quality metalwork Kent!

The Perry crusaders are glorious and the clergy are something you don't see very often. Little vignettes like this are what bumps a wargame table beyond the norm into the realms of something special.

Talbot's regiment is like looking through a window from my gaming past. I have the exact same miniatures painted up for Talbot's regiment too. I've always liked mixing poses into a until and the standing / loading minis add a real sense of a point in time during a battle.

Lovely work mate and another hefty chunk of points for your tally!

Cheers,
Millsy

From Kerry T: More Scottish spears (225 points)

Morning, afternoon and evening all

Last week I mentioned the problem of staying on track and not wandering off on a hobby tangent and starting something else. Hurray  - somehow I've managed it this week with more Scottish  for my 100YW/Scottish wars of independence project

Another Scottish schiltron

These, the first unit are more Antediluvian Miniatures Scottish spears.  from the "Wars of the Bruce Range"

Flags of war standards- Walter Stewart High Steward of Scotland

The spearmen in this unit look a little more poorly armoured than last week's entry and are mainly depicted in the padded gambeson.

Picture caption...
Answers on the back of a Warbases 120 x 60 base please...

I can't look...
Who farted?..
I told you not to eat that....
Be more careful, you could have had my eye out with that...
Look where you're going you wee Jessie...

No knights with these

Adding figures with an upright spear allows a unit with more depth

Most spearmen have a saltire badge sewed on the Gambeson

This second unit is from Medbury Miniatures, this is a superb range and these are from STL files that I printed. They really are lovely figures to paint, with easy to paint detail and folds. Thy weigh nothing and as a tribe follower their cost is minimal compared to their metal brethren and I can print so many!

There is such a variety of pose with these

The spears are printed plastic, they look good but may not be robust enough

Sir Gilbert de la Hay's banner

Never take a sword to a pike fight or a set of bagpipes for that matter

These really do need long bases to prevent breakage

I love these figures, there is so much variety but the downside is that all the pike are in this attacking pose, I'd love to see some with pike that are more upright and therefore allow me to build deeper units without resorting to other figure ranges

They seem to fit well with the Anrediluvian range, maybe a s little smaller. This is probably because they come without bases so I stuck them to some plastic bases to add to their height before the final basing on MDF.

What really surprised me is how easy these were to prepare compared to metal figures and even other plastic ranges, unfortunately though they still seem to run away

Once again thank you for looking, I hope to have more Medbury Miniatures from this range and the 100YW range soon

In summary

21 x 28mm Antediluvian Miniatures foot @ 5 points = 105 points
24 x 28mm Medbury Miniatures Foot @ 5 points = 120 points
Total 225 points

For the can opener side challenge

8 armoured figures @ 5 points = 40 points

many thanks

Valleyboy

From Millsy:

Honestly Kerry, if you posted nothing else for the rest of the Challenge but more of these I'd be a happy camper indeed. They are just wonderful once again.

I can see why you enjoy these so much. The faces are so characterful and their kit is spot on. Painted up to your usual quality they are fit to grace any table and are a wonderful advert for Antediluvian and Miniatures.

Brilliant stuff mate. Keep 'em coming!

Cheers,
Millsy

From GeoffT: Wisdom, Feathered Serpent (55 points)

Hello Challengers,

For the theme of Wisdom, I’m claiming a feathered serpent, which is symbolic of wisdom in several cultures.  This one is a very old model by Grenadier Miniatures from their Shadowrun range.  When I prepped it, I wisely wore gloves as it had some lead rot which I leached off with vinegar before applying a heavy coat of primer.  Ideally I should have used a rust converter or electrolysis to fix the lead rot, but the wisdom extended only so far.  I don’t know much about the Shadowrun genre, but I think the lady is a shape changer and turns into the serpent.

This week, but not in theme, is two Weird war 2 miniatures by Eureka.  They don't look that weird to me, so think will be good for US in pacific theatre.  Currently my US ww2 miniatures are in an Ardennes campaign in winter, so the bloke with 30cal will be a bit cold, luckily his friend has a flamethrower to warm things up.

For the scorecard, all in 28mm

Feathered serpent = 20 points (on vehicle sized base)

Other Shadowrun figure = 5 points

Squirrel for Shadowrun faction

Wisdom theme = 20 points

US blokes = 2 x 5 points

Net = 55 points

Kind Regards

Geoff.

From Millsy:

Very nice indeed Geoff!

The feathered serpent may be my favourite of all your posts to date. The colour choices and the shading (particularly the blue) are wonderful and it has a really striking feel to it because of that. I'm not familiar with this particular miniature but having seen yours I am tempted to add one to my collection if they can still be found.

The two Yanks are cool too. The chap in just a singlet looks a little tanned for Europe in winter but he clearly means business and doesn't have time to be cold!

Great stuff. 55 awesome points mate.

Cheers,
Millsy

From RichardM - A few Nile river papyrus boats and some Mahdists (250 points)

All native forces this week.  I need to get these done in large numbers as there are large numbers of them to get done.  This week’s efforts will take me to approx 15% of the Mahdist troops that I have to paint.

Firstly, a few Nile river papyrus boats that are for nothing other than looking at.  When I eventually make a Nile River I have a range of vessels and assorted pieces to make vignettes along the edge of the river.  The other key point is that the river will not be BLUE.  These are actually 15mm models from the Museum Miniatures range - but they are small enough and kneeling helps with them fit in.

Then we have the first of the Ansari foot troops.  In addition to the spears and swords that all of the others have, these also had rifles.

Then I am back onto the Hadendowa warriors -  bases of 10 figures each with a few hand-painted flags.  No-one would have any success in translating the writing on the flags - I am going for the effect :)

As before, all these are Pendraken 10mm miniatures.

Points:

Canoes - 6 points for the canoe (vehicle) and 4 figures = 10 points * 3 boats - 30 points
Ansari - 60 * 10mm foot - 60 points
Handendowa - 160 * 10mm foot - 160 points

Total = 250 points

From Millsy:

Finally the Mahdists have appeared! I've been waiting with baited breath for these since you shared your first Sudan stuff early on in the Challenge. Certainly they have been worth the wait, they are just glorious!

I'm gobsmacked you managed to paint the coloured patches on the jibbas so accurately. Even without blowing the images up you can clearly see the different colours. Amazing work.

Please promise we'll see a whole of army shot when done. If this is 15% of the total it'll be staggering.

250 top shelf points for your tally.

Cheers,
Millsy
