From JamieM - Post apocalyptic Santa and elves (25 Points)

I had hoped to get these posted before Christmas, but as always seems to happen I was distracted by starting other painting projects before finishing the last one….. but as it’s still the festive period, I reckon I’m ok.

Here they are, a post apocalyptic Santa and his little elves

These are from the Eden range, which have some lovely sculpts, but the game is now sadly dead as the company that made it has shut up shop. I take the opportunity to grab figures from eBay to liberate them from other people’s lead mountains.

Having said that, these are resin figures and are a special edition box that came with a special scenario where players try to steal presents. I’ll probably never play Eden as a game, but plan to use them for a miniature agnostic game like a Fistful of Lead.

Is it really Santa? Or just some bloke who stumbled across some fancy dress whilst roaming the wastelands?

But if it’s not Santa, why is he accompanied by diminutive fellows who could be described as “elves”?

These are lovely figures and I was dead chuffed to find someone selling them still in box, untouched as I’d passed on purchasing them a few years ago and regretted it ever since. The bases are cast in resin from the same range and add further interest to the figures.

Whilst Eden figures are 32mm figures, as the elves are a bit smaller I’ll just score them all as 28mm for the challenge for 25 points in total.

Haha, Santa and his loonatic 'elves' look smashing, Jamie. It's good to think that in the post apocalypse there will still be Santa and his crew, doing their 'good' work. Beautiful brushwork, mate. I also really like the bespoke bases - very in-theme, those.

From JamieM - more post apocalyptic clowns (42 points)

More post apocalyptic clowns finished from me. It’s a miracle that I managed to get anything finished as I seem to have decided that starting new projects is much easier than finishing any I’ve already started, so I have about 15 things on the go at the same time......

Anyway, here they are:

Six more this time in a variety of poses.

I really like this one - he seems to have repurposed a vacuum cleaner into a shrapnel gun! It’s little touches like this that I do like about post apocalyptic stuff.

This one I upgraded to a machine gun. I don’t want too many long range bullets flying around in my games, but a few will add some range

This one got a slightly futuristic laser gun added.

This one is the ringmaster and comes in a pack with the weird animal below.

This chap only had a cane, so I added a comedically large mallet head from another figure.

And the last one is some sort of weird mutated aberration from the wastelands.... they even made it a little pair of shorts.... who’s a good boy then?!?!?!?

Nice and simple scoring, 6 35mm figures at 7 points a pop for 42 points.

JamieM - post apocalyptic survivors (35 points)

In a feat of dedication, concentration and willpower rarely seen at my painting desk, I’ve actually stuck to the plan and have completed a fourth warband for my post apocalyptic plans......

Once again, Eden figures from Taban miniatures. Five generic survivors, just trying to make their way in a changed world......

Some differences in size between these, but I guess if I lined up with my mates (in a socially distanced fashion) we’re all quite different sizes and shapes, so not too bad.

First up is Tracy. She seems obsessed with wearing “fashionable” clothes. I guess we all need to hang onto something in these weird times. Her handiness with that hand crossbow is more impressive.

Tony used to work in an animal sanctuary apparently. He managed to save one of the birds and it’s been so helpful in hunting, getting us food. It’s catching increasingly weird stuff though, perhaps it’s the radiation impacting the animals?

Clyde was part of a motorcycle gang in the old times. Worked on cars in the scrapyard and that rivet gun and chainsaw have saved our bacon more than once...

Gavin is an odd one. Won’t take off his hockey mask, just tells us “this is the way”, whatever that means. Carries those skulls around everywhere. I don’t have the stomach to ask him why or whose they were.

Billy is an odd one. Obsessed with that boomerang of his. In his defence, it even hits what he throws it at sometimes and he doesn’t have to worry about ammo like the rest of us.

Five 40mm figures for 35 points. Now, will my willpower hold long enough to finish my final warband next or will I butterfly onto something else, leaving the project part finished like I normally do?!?!?

JamieM - post apocalyptic clown warband

Things were getting tough.... ever since things went totally sideways when the bombs started dropping and the world changed, we’d just been wandering. Every now and again we’d pick up another straggler, stumbling from whatever building they’d holed up in or had been searching for food in.

Wasn’t long before the cracks started to show..... none of us was ready for what happened and it showed as folk overreacted to everything. I really though the next argument was going to end up with someone killing someone else..... but then we saw it, in the distance. I don’t know why, but it galvanised us, gave us something else to focus on...... Clown Town!

Yeah, who would have guessed that the two bit carnival show that came through town every couple of years and just happened to be passing through when the bombs fell would help. Gave us something else to concentrate on and to think about. They’d abandoned it, so there it was, ripe for the taking. And take we did......

Jonny was always a bit unhinged. He demanded the tutu and cane. No one was going to disagree with him when he got that look in his eye.

Simon worked in steel as near as we could tell. He turned up the power on that flame machine they used to use when the acts were running into the big top and he just keeps giggling when he fires it now.

Ned was always a quiet one. Who knew that he could unicycle?

Judith found that rifle hidden under the outfit box. She’s got some skills with it too.

Bogdana worked for that chemical company just outside town as far as I know. She certainly knew her way around the flash bang grenades she found. Says she’s made them “more fun”, whatever that means.

Paul’s always showing off. Picked that road sign off the street and nothing will make him leave it. Perhaps it was from the end of his road or something?

The second warband for my post apocalyptic skirmish (scuffle?) gaming complete and that gives me six more 40mm figures for 42 points.

JamieM - post apocalyptic survivors (35 points)

My second post if this challenge involves the genre that I intend to spend most of my time on - post apocalyptic. I’ve had these figures for a number of years, slowly adding to their numbers as they pop up on eBay or elsewhere. I’ve no idea at all why I would be inspired this year to do post apocalyptic figures, but let me know if you have any ideas.....

Anyway, these first five are general survivors. The average people trying to make their way in a vastly changed world.....

These figures are from a now defunct range for a game called “Eden” produced by a French manufacturer. Originally they were “Taban Miniatures” and then the range passed to a company called “Happy Games Factory” and they now seem to have closed.

The game is split into a number of factions and whilst I find some of the factions not to my taste, there are a large number of figures that I really liked, so I started purchasing them even though I couldn’t really see myself playing it any time!

First up is Angela. We met her in a bombed out music shop where she was cradling her “Axe”. Turns out she was part of the civil defence force, before that fell with everything else. She kept her leg armour, but the rest of the suit needed batteries to work so she dumped the rest of it. She’s sure handy in a fight.....

Dietrich is next. Bit of a survival nut, even before things got bad. Doesn’t seem to have had any formal military service, but knows his way around his assault rifle and seems to have raided an army surplus store for his kit......

Luther was some kind of hipster before it all went wrong. Kept his hat, shades and washed out t-shirt and grabbed a pick axe from his shed when he headed out into the wilderness.

Liesl was a self styled “soccer mom”. Don’t have the heart to ask what happened to her family, but she’s sure handy with that spear and shotgun.

Otto worked construction before the Events. Only person I’ve met who’s strong enough to lift that chainsaw on his own. Strong and silent type.....

Some conversions to give than a variety of weapons from different manufacturers, I intend to use them with the “Fistful of....” rules as they’re quick, simple, fun, great for multiplayer and can be adjusted to fit pretty much any era.

With regards sizing, they’re chunky figures, slightly bigger than Star Wars legion I would say (scale shot below with a 28mm figure) so I was going to suggest 40mm scoring like Star Wars legion are?

I too cannot possibly imagine what could have inspired you, now, to paint up these post apocalyptic survivors.

Lovely work on he figures and the basing. I'll score these as 40mm figures, as per your suggestion, so that's 35 points for you.

I almost missed this post as it somehow snuck in between mine and Stuart's.
