From DallasE: Yellow Brick Road Trip in Sarah's Limo and a Land Raider! (75 points)

OK, entering the free-fire zone with my second-last post. The push is on, and that means squeezing the bonus locations!

First off I will take a ride in Lady Sarah's Limousine with this "Sister of Battle" from Manufaktura Miniatures. It's a 3D print I've painted as statuary to fit the theme of the old-school all-metal Adepta Sororitas army I'm building for Warhammer 40K.

The Manufaktura figures are superb but it has to be noted, mostly "NSFW"... I've chosen one here that fits my taste but many of their models are... explicit. So be aware of that if you search them on the Web or visit their site. I bought this one from a stockist on eBay so wasn't really aware of the nature of the range before I visited their website... thankfully not on a work computer :-)

The model is really exquisite, well sculpted and great print quality. Painting was a breeze of course, no "grisaille" or "Zorn palette" necessary. The pillar I did before - very flexible as the space on the top fits a standard 25mm round base so I have created statuary to fit many gaming themes.

Next we'll take a spin down the Yellow Brick Road with a "Cinema" model, and what better than a Propagandakompanie Kriegsberichter with his own movie camera and "PK" cufftitle.

This is a metal model from Warlord Games' Bolt Action range and painted up a treat. I painted him as an enlisted man with the early-war lemon yellow waffenfarbe, since according to Angolia and Schlicht's "Uniforms and Traditions of the German Army" the cufftitle (see previous photo) was likely discontinued when the PK-guys got their own grey waffenfarbe colour rather than piggybacking onto the signal-troops' colour.

Im einsatz, making a TikTok of a passing Pzkpfw. 38(t).

Lastly for this post we have a real blast from the past, an original Land Raider with just a couple of modern updates. I acquired this model in a trade on the weekend, fixed the doors, primed it black and painted it earlier this week.

As we all know, this is the Ur-Land-Raider first produced by Games Workshop back in 1988 and made available for retail purchase in a box of two models, for 12.99GBP no less!!

But remarkably, although I've been playing 40K myself since 1989 or so, I'd never owned an original Land Raider model, until now!

As I said, this model came to me in a trade (along with a MK1 Rhino) and needed some work. A previous owner appears to have replaced the sponson lascannons, it had Forgeworld Iron Warriors doors, and a modern exhaust stack and dozer blade has supplanted the originals. Still and all, not bad for a nearly 35-year-old model.

I started by removing the resin doors and replacing them with standard modern Land Raider doors, cut out a bit to accommodate the big hinge. I also stuck on some very cool Heresy-era eagles from a modern Age of Darkness vehicle sprue.

The 'Raider accompanied by Iron Warriors Siege Tyrant Terminators.

I also put together a new hatch with storm bolter. Fortunately the modern 40K parts fits this old model to a tee.

Alternatively, this 'Raider can be fielded with a pintle-mounted multi-melta. This one is from the Forgeworld pintle-mounted weapons set. Handy.

A bit better view of the door, decals and weathering here.

It was a really straightforward paintjob, although I regret not having any Modelmates/Dirty Down Rust Effect for the eagle. Once I get some more of it I'll tune that up. In any event it's a really cool model and will fit in well with my Iron Warriors 30K force.

From PhilH: A rewrite along the Yellow Brick Road (25 Points)

Due to a series of unfortunate events, I've fallen behind schedule, so my original Yellow Brick Road entry is going to be reassigned to a new location. So as my first YBR, I bring you this highly cinematic...bear. Perhaps a call-out to 2015's The Revenant (that I haven't seen myself, but the scene is notorious). Or maybe 2023's... Cocaine Bear? You choose.

Metal model by Warbases, who do a handy collection of wild animals as 'set dressing' that JohnE and I are all about. I painted it as a black bear, it didn't seem massive and p*ssed off enough to be a Grizzly. He can roam the tabletop forests of North America, terrorising settlers and native warriors alike.

I felt it needed a reason to be on the tabletop, and that reason is someone disturbed its lunch of this groundhog. 'Cheeky free beaver' file (say what?), rescaled and FDM 3D printed, tail cut off, trimmed down to stick on the base, job done.

Teaser trailer for a future entry. Not a good time to be caught unloaded.

A 28mm Bear plus lunch: an easy 5 points and 20 for the YBR.

Cool looking set dressing, more tables need stuff like this to fill in the empty parts of the table and make it look more like real terrain rather than a green sheet on a kitchen table. The addition of the bear's lunch is a nice touch, too.

From MattW: Yellow Brick road, 80s studio, super hero’s, lady Sarah Limousine , books (165 points)

 Final Studios wip round!

Leaving the casting couch I travel on the yellow brick road to 80s studio, then super heroes, finally  then my last lady Sarah limousine ride to books and then I have completed all of the inner blue studios. Now off to see the director for the final blockbuster!

Yellow brick road

To travel on the yellow brick road I offer the camera team van of the Pathè Journal! A 20mm Diecast repaint, I hand painted the sign writing  and had an attempt at the Pathè Journal rooster ! This will join my 20mm ww2 collection.

80s Studio

The next offering is my 1980s studio, a diecast Ford Capri. The first project car I worked on in 1987 was with one of my lifelong friends Rob Gow. His Capri was his dream car and together we sanded back, sprayed, pulled down the motor and rebuilt it from the ground up to show condition over two years. Rob was rewarded with a number of trophies around Sydney for the car including being featured in issue 1 of Ford Power in Australia, then later we installed a big block engine to produce 720 brake horsepower for sprint racing, the car again was featured in Street Machine, finally the car became a racing car and sadly was bent up completely and wrecked on a bend at the racing track in Goulburn. Sadly Rob passed in February this year from Cancer and this is my tribute to him, certainly a feature of my 80s.

Super Hero’s

A term that is bandied about a lot is Super Hero, for me as an Aussie are the young Australian men who landed at Gallipoli and then went on to fight in the Palestinian campaign, France and Russia are my heroes. Here I offer up to you a 75mm miniature of an WW1 Australian gunner.

Next up is a short ride from Super Hero studio to the book studio if I may. I offer a French Revolution peasant ready to run someone through! The miniature is from the Foundry French Revolution range.

Book Studio

One of my biggest influences when growing up was books, as we had no TV reception in the mountains of NSW until I was ten, and then no colour TV in our house until I was 15. Books are a big influence on me still today and I have a library full of them. One of my favourite book series was Biggles…. So I offer up a 1/72 Revell Sopwith triplane, as I have already completed my camels some years ago!

Off to see the director for my final entry

Well, I can't fault your maths on this one. Excellent miniatures and vehicles!

That's a fearsome looking chieftain, Matt! And a great job on the basing - I'm adding a couple of bonus points for that.

Update: It appears that someone has been playing silly beggars and has been opening the post while it is being minioned, then closing it again after I've scheduled or published it, thereby removing any changes I've made.

From GeoffreyT: Star Trek Ships (Yellow Brick Road)(40 points)

Hello Again fellow Challengers,

From the casting couch I duck up north to follow the Yellow Brick Road.

What is more cinematic than Star Trek Space Ships? Nothing really. So they are the vehicle to get me onto the yellow brick road.

I'm not a trekky, so had to do quite a bit of research to find what these pieces are. They came in an ebay lot with traveller 15mm figures. They are quite venerable. This one is USS Excelsior by FASA Corporation (1983).

The metal is quite soft and it has taken quite some battering on the underside, which fortunately is hidden from a normal tabletop view. I also have a USS Reliant, but there is extensive damage on the top side and I'm not quite sure how to rescue it yet. The lost Miki's Wiki states that the original FASA casts were a very soft metal, with later Citadel recasts being more rugged.

This red ship is a Kzinti Space Control Ship by Task Force games (1979).  According to the Star Trek lore, Kzinti are space cat-people in red space ships.  Sounds a bit like red dwarf.  I wonder if they have a sentient hologram too.

This ship came with the original special round base with a cross shaped cardboard insert, but I preferred to use a hexagonal base so it will work with Starmada or Full Thrust game systems.

I'm not quite sure what scale these are, but I'm guessing they are 10 points each maybe as these two are quite hefty, but fairly easy to paint.

2 x Starships = 20 points

1 x Yellow brick road bonus = 20 points

Total = 40 points and some skipping down the road.

The Yellow brick road leaves me at the door of the Swords and Sandals Studio; we will look inside next week.

GT

From TeemuL: The second post from Geoffrey throws us in to the space, Yellow Brick Road is an excellent way to the Final Frontier, and these ships are cinematic, no questions asked. I don't say I'm a trekkie (or trekker), but I have seen quite a lot of series and episodes and movies and in general I like them. You have done a nice job here, especially on the USS Excelsior, very authentic. Being a junior minion it is difficult for me to score these, since there's no scale or measurements, but assuming those bases are about 25mm, then they are probably quite close to 28mm cavalry models. So 10 points a piece it is!

From ScottC: Historical Drama and Yellow Brick Road (80 pts)

 Well howdy ho partners,

Next up on my studio walkthrough was my yellow brick road submission. None other than Boromir of Gondor!

I would have asked of no better compatriot to accompany me across my path towards historical drama.

Model is a 3d print from TPGEO.

Now for my Historical Drama submission, after doing a little bit of research many old time western films are in fact.. Historical Drama's!

I painted up 6 gunfighter ball figures from the Avenging Angels set. I always love painting the knuckleduster figures because they always seem to have so much character.

Points:

6x 28mm infantry = 30 pts

1 x 28mm (40mm base) cavalry figure = 10 pts

Challenge bonuses = 40 pts

Total: 80 pts

Now onwards and upwards I go!

From TeemuL: This is some fine brushwork, Scott! Shame that there are no more photos on them, one photo only. I'm sure we'd like to see more, I guess it is even in the rules. And Challenge map would make it easier to follow your tour around the studios. But like I said, very nice painting, the gunfighters are very characterful and I like your colour choices.
