From MartinC: A whole load of random stuff, some studios and a limo ride (390pts)

 After the trauma of 10mm tartan I've had a week of painting 28mm figs before beginning 10mm Winged Hussars!

1st up a Limo ride to Under construction. We have recently started to play Necromunda, in the 1st game I wiped out all of Dave's gang but for a punk armed with a welder. At which point he annihilated my entire gang. I may hate Necromunda.

I'm being the Palatine Enforcer gang and had a few Hasslefree figures but needed a few more.

These 4 will complete the gang and the 3 female Enforcers will give me a limo ride to "Under Construction"

Hasslefree are always nice figures to paint and unusually for Hasslefree the women have clothes on.

So there we are ready to go, and them James bought me a real Enforcer gang for Christmas

10 figures of the XIII Precinct, named in honour of the challenge and the assaulted precinct

All the characters are named after characters and actors in "Law and Order"

Next up a group of Copplestone Neo Soviets.

Don't really know what to do these and only painted them because I squirted out too much white, a lot too much white

They are great figures though and will get some action somewhere

A few years ago I started a WW1 Turkish army, mainly Woodbine designs. But they don't sell cavalry, in fact almost no one sells WW1 Turkish Cavalry. It took me a couple of years to find some

Tiger Miniatures Early war Turkish Cavalry. Not the best figs but they are OK

So these are my visit to the Under Construction Studio

I also picked up 3 Turkish commanders from Col Bill but can't remember the manufacturer but they are fairly chunky

I have a thing for Kings of War, it is a fun and mad set of rules. I fight historical battles using it but it is mainly aimed at Fantasy. I have a fairly large African army with painted warriors etc. I wanted to beef them up

With a unit of Savage Core Chimpanzees. These will act as berzerkers, throwing poop as they charge forward

Or showing their bums.

Finally off to the High Adventure Studio. If you of my generation the French Foreign Legion is the ultimate in high adventure. The most romantic of all regiments. So for High Adventure I haven't painted them

Instead I painted some support for them, Trialleurs Algerien.

These are beautiful figures from the Honourable Lead Boiler Suit Company, with massive packs

From DaveD - Sudan , a bitsa week. (190 points)

This last week has been a bit of an unplanned week as I picked up a selection of figures at the York wargame show. This combined with the planning for putting on the first large Black Powder based Sudan game  (which was a refight of the 3rd battle of El-Teb - Link to report here ) meant I ended up deciding  to prep and complete this stuff within the week . The horses were done in thin oil and were quick dried overnight in the boiler cupboard and then once touch dry being hit with spray varnish - don't believe all you read on oils taking weeks to dry.

First a conversion piece - this is made from a spare camel and a Perry Bashi Bazouk figure. I remade the saddle in milliput and added in a wire rope rein - this was soldered on the camels head and into the figures hand. The represents Major Kitchener in his role as an intelligence and scouting officer in the early Sudan campaigns.  

next , 6 Mounted Infantry . By Wargames Foundry... well 6 horses and 4 riders are , two other riders are Perry ones ( but I am sure they were both sculpted by the same person  as they are almost identical , of course you will have to wait and see what I did with the two officer figures. Plus a mounted commander which is from the lead pile which I am sure is Empress Miniatures. I just fancied doing this one as he was wearing his patrol jacket . Makes a change from khaki.

 

 Next 6 mounted Bashi  Bazouks , used as scouts in the weekends battle. A kind of irregular Ottoman cavalry - like cossacks but even worse by all accounts..

 

I had a set  of old school "Arabs of the market" castings from Connoisseur Miniatures so I thought these will serve nicely to add to the civilians selection . The 4 larger market stalls are resin pieces with new paint jobs - the smaller one is part of the Connoisseur set,  its metal - with a cover made from a piece of old handkerchief and set with PVA prior to painting.  While the detail is and style of these old sculpts may not be to today's standards with a simple paint job and at typical table distances they still work well as set dressing in my opinion.

So its 14 mounted and 10 foot figures and 5 market stalls (2 points each?).   it looks like a much reduced total off 200 points .. well I have had the last two weekends off from painting. I am sure Martin, Miles and Alex will be glad to hear I start back at work this coming week too..

Initial work on the new man cave has started with window replacements completed - the electrical  and lighting solutions designed, costed and contractor engaged. Flooring up next...

MilesR: Yet more inspired work but I'm afraid I must be a rules lawyer and point out terrain doesn't count outside of a bonus round.  I feel bad but can't count the wonderful stalls so it's still a nice 190 points.  As we may come down to the wire points total wise, I will spot you ten points vs my tally as that seems to be the sporting thing to do! 

From MichaelA - Adèle Blanc-Sec and mount with a couple of ghouls! (30 points)

More self-indulgent nonsense, but something that I have been thinking about for some time now and, as I have discovered with this hobby, if you have an itch then scratch it!  Inspired, once again, by the work of Luc Besson, this bizarre assemblage is my homage to the unlikely gem that is ‘The Extraordinary Adventures of Adèle Blanc-Sec’.  Based on the French comics by artist Jacques Tardi, I had completely missed the original theatrical release of this ridiculous adventure only discovering it by chance by scanning the television schedule prior to the Christmas break.  Billed as Lara Croft meets Indiana Jones I can safely say that my curiosity was piqued!  

Consigned to the flawed masterpiece drum of any celluloid collection, ‘The Extraordinary Adventures of Adèle Blanc-Sec’ is a triumph of style over content, but I have to confess that I enjoy Monsieur Besson’s style, pure escapism rarely looked so good.   Of course the highlight for me is when our eponymous heroine flies over the streets of Paris on the back of a Pterodactyl – I kid you not!

For the record then, the composite parts are as follows: Pterodactyl – The Honourable Lead Boiler Suit’s Pteranodon.  Adèle is made up from a Wargames Foundry Victorian Lady, a plastic Rider of Rohan from Games Workshop and an arm from the Perry Miniatures ACW Zouave command sprue all held together with superglue and lashings of Greenstuff.  As for the base this was a combination of bits and pieces from the ever reliable Fenris Games. 

Finally, just because I didn’t know where else to post them, a couple of Hersey Miniatures in the shape of a Ghoul Hag and Child.  Wonderfully sculpted, but wonderfully disturbing at the same time!

Awesome! I'm a huge fan of Tardi's work and I had not heard of this film - Sarah and I just watched the trailer and I know what we're doing this weekend!

That was a fantastic bit of modeling there Mr. Awdry. The melding of the Rider of Rohan,  the Victorian lady and the pterodactyl was pure genius. And the use of the ornate gate really helped set the scene of where she was flying. Brilliant!

I've seen these Heresy ghouls online and have always wanted a set for my Pulp gaming. How deliciously disturbing (now, that's my idea of a 'kids meal'). After seeing these I'm definitely getting out the credit card to seal the deal.
