From TashaH: Travels Through the Inner Ring [Lune][Star Yacht][Altair IV] (70 points)

I’m almost at my goal to finish all the planets.

I’m currently on the planet of Lune. I can’t imagine a better fit for the theme of ‘Witchcraft and Sorcery’ than an alchemy table.

This table is slightly modified. It is a print from Great Grimoire on myminifactory. It is available as part of the Welcome Pack for their Tribes. It is a 3 piece print. I broke one of the legs taking it off the build plate. Fortunately, I did have this nifty trunk printed off (sorry, I can't figure out where I printed it from) and, as luck would have it, the tabletop fit perfectly on top. I do plan to build the table appropriately, but for now, this works!

I’m going to ask for Lady Sarah’s Star Yacht to take me to Altair IV.

This villager is also a print from the Great Grimoire Tribes Welcome Pack on myminifactory.  I’m still learning the intricacies of my new printer and have noticed I’ve messed up a few prints. Unfortunately I didn’t realize how blank her face was until I was almost done with her. She still looks decent from 2 feet!

Landing on Altair IV, I happen across this old robot. How fortunate, one more check off the planet list!

I found this free file on Cults3d. It also came with the fancy, stylized base. It printed very nicely. I utilized my typical painting style of ‘just keep adding more paint until it looks moderately ok’.

We are now heading back to Terra to finish our Challenge journey.

The points:

Alchemist Table/Trunk - 1/2 a point?

20mm figure - 4 points

28mm figure - 5 points

Planet bonus - 40 points

Star Yacht - 20 points

Total 69.5 points

and one skull (that's 201 for me)!!

I like your alchemist's table, it looks very realistic (and skully). 3D printing is modern-day alchemy... Your robot has wonderful oxidation effects. I'm rounding you up to 70 points. Almost there on the planets!

From TashaH - Painting Firsts (Sarah's Star Yacht) (30 points)

Wow! It's been a week!

I have been working on getting my new painting room set up and it has significantly cut in to my actual painting time. Short term pain for long term gain! I was fortunate enough to travel to the city this week and acquire many more new paint colours. A new painting desk must be properly appointed! I can't wait to try them all. Perhaps I need to find a rainbow to paint.

On to this week's submission.

A long time ago, when dinosaurs roamed the earth, I painted my first figure. I was fortunate enough to participate in an advanced learning program in school as a child. We attended regular school two days a week and then took advanced programs three days a week. I remember my favourite was learning about Astronomy at the University. I also got to learn how to do things like make ceramics. This is where I made this beauty of a figure. She isn’t a miniature, but she is a sight to behold! Measuring in at about 6 inches, she has been a part of my life since I was 9 years old.

This is the first miniature I painted. She is facilitating my trip aboard Lady Sarah’s Star Yacht today to the planet, Klendathu. She is a 3D print from Great Grimoire on My Mini Factory I love the Great Grimoire prints.

I had help with this figure. A lot of help. I had in-person, one on one instruction with the Snowlord himself! Unfortunately (and ironically) our painting lesson was cut short due to a snow storm.

You can see how nicely Curt had me set up. I was even gifted a paint journal. You will not see my paint journal. If you wish to see how a paint journal should be maintained, please refer to Lady Sarah's Guide to Awesome and Amazing Paint Journals

Can we talk about how amazing these boots are?
The details on this print are outstanding.

After I left Curt’s instruction, structure and discipline fell to the wayside and my haphazard style emerged. I retained the fundamentals (mostly!) but my go to solution of 'just keep adding more layers until it looks decent' was developed with this figure!

When I initially painted this figure, I had an incredibly limited paint selection. I obtained the colour of her cloak by blending 3 colours of contrast paints. The owl started out white, then was grey, and finally ended up brown. Poor guy has really tough body image issues now. I gave him a nice going over with my newly obtained Nuln Oil and for that he is quite happy.

The points:

54mm figure: 10 points
Planet bonus: 20 points
Total points: 30

Chocolate Cake Duel: 10 points

Next week will be buggy...

That is a lovely figure, Tasha, and great to see your first ever painted "mini". Your painting is coming along nicely!

From ByronM - Hall of Traps Submission

Once again winter is here, and with it, the annual painting challenge!  As with everyone else around here, I have been trying madly to assemble and prime figures to get ready for the challenge, however I have had both work and video games distracting me, so I have less than half of what I wanted prepped ready for the challenge.

Once piece though that was ready was something I picked up from a patreon that I immediately fell in love with and had to have.  It is from Great Grimoire and supplies monthly fairy tale themed STL files for 3d printing at home, and this was from a few months ago and I have been itching to get to work on it.

When the map was revealed, I knew that I could use this figure for several of the rooms, but chose to get it done right off the bat, so am using it as my submission for the Hall of Traps, to get started on my adventure through the chambers of challenge.  I am also using this figure as the yearly gift to my wife Kim.  Normally it is a steampunk style figure of some kind, but when she saw this figure online she fell in love with it as well, so two birds with one stone!
I painted this up with what is in real life a brighter green glow (but it kept getting washed out in the images) to show as an eerie eldritch magic allowing the hands to come through the cabinet. While I had planned on having the green glow reflect onto the floor and the girls back, the figure is for my wife, and she didn't want it "ruined", so I left it out.

The girl was very tiny when printed the first time (as was the cabinet) with the base being less than 40mm.  At that scale it was correct for 28mm, but just seemed too small, so I reprinted it scaled up to a 55mm base, so the girl is actually 30mm tall just to get enough size to deal with the details that were there, since it is not for any game, and just for a display piece, scaling up really didn't affect anything.

It is amazing how many great Patreons and Kickstarters there have been for STL files over the last year, so this is the first of many 3d prints that I will be painting up this year.

With all that over, I have finished my traditional day 1 figure, so will be back in a few days with more.
