From TomL, Stompy robots & Lust ( 55 points)

This is the first of two posts for this Tuesday. Continuing on with our tour of the Abyss This Pulp Figures Gangland Gal will accompany us to the second circle: Lust

 

Here we meet the beautiful, self-centered, hedonistic, lustful Dorian Grey from Westwind Productions.

These figures were painted using Foundry, Reaper and Two Thin Coats acrylics.  Taking a break from the Abyss we have some stompy Battletech robots.

These were painted using my airbrush and Vallejo Model Air paints, Vallejo deck tan drybrush and a light game colour wash.  This will get me on board with the Stompy Robot side duel.

Following previous years posts the Battltech Mech points would be:
2 40-50mm mechs @ 7 points = 14
3 roughly 28 mm mechs @ 5 points = 15
Lust = 20 pts
2 x 28 mm figures = 10 points

Total: 59 points.

Ahhh Mr Dorian - a wonderful character. I wonder what he would do with all this social media stuff? Probably have a few million 'followers' I guess!

Great to some Mechs hit the table and get on with your Big Stompy Robots duel! I'll score them as 28mm figures, which seems consistent with their size as well as previous submissions

From MartinC: My usual random start (198 pts)

New challenge, my 10th (or 9th or 11th). As usual I have a whole range of lead mountains to paint. However there has been a dramatic change of circumstances and total loss of mojo.  I took early retirement in August and moved house to be closer to my family. Since then I have been working on the house, it was quite leaky. I'm almost at the decorating stage.

So my plan for the challenge is to paint a 28mm Napoleonic Bavarian division, obviously I'm not doing that yet. Instead, along with a friend Ian we are doing Barbarossa in 10mm for Rapid Fire Reloaded. I have found an excellent campaign game called Kicking in the Door on wargames vault and have tweaked it a little bit. 

We are both building Germans and Russians, and will both have 6 or 7 battalions of each side. I have had most of mine for Christmas but had a few Germans to paint 

German armour

Command bases, mortars, machine gun and AT

Most of a motorised battalion,  needs 3 more bases plus transport

The barbarossa stuff will take up most of the start of the challenge 

As usual I will also have a load of random things to paint

1st up a 28mm steampunk mechanical octopus. I picked this up 2nd hand but don't know who made it and can't find any pictures on the web, so it was a bugger to put together. I fo love it though, it is very dynamic.

Next some skeletons picked up in a sale. I do love skeletons, they are a joy to paint

Finally I recently bought a massive Spanish style villa from JB wargaming and will use it as a convent in Vietnam. So needed some nuns. Never type in 28mm nuns on Google. 99% of the results are NSFW. These are from Westwind and are OK.

It's great to have you back Martin! It sounds like you've had a LOT on your plate this year so I can understand the loss in the hobby mojo. That aside, you seemed to have roared back with your opening entry here! I missed the return of Rapid Fire, but I can see how that would cause some interest in 10mm WWII as it was such an iconic ruleset in the 90s. Great work on this German force - you'll be doing Russians too, right? I can help you the provenance of the Clockwork Octopus as I have one sitting unbuilt on my desk. *sigh* It's from Kawe over at Westfalia Miniatures, but its now long out of print. Kudos to you in it's assembly (it's a beast) and you've done an excellent job on all of its brass, steam-fitted glory. And who doesn't love some skellies and nuns? The only thing that could possibly make it better is NSFW nuns. *cringe*

OK, so I lied. I haven't finished. I painted these yesterday. They are Montagnards for Vietnam games

They are mainly dressed in loincloths and captured equipment. Armed with AK47, carbines and grease guns

The figures are from Westwind and are fairly ropey

but they were very cheap

and will get limited usage, but there is a specific plan

So overall that is 20 x 28mm = 100pts

Sorry and promise not to submit again this year, I actually have stuff to do.

Haha! I love seeing what you can get done in a day, Martin, even when you say you have other things to do - it's amazing. 

I had no idea that someone made Montagnards. Yes, they are a bit ropey, but like all figures they look 1000% better when painted up. Strange that they chose to depict them as half-naked tribesmen. Perhaps good for the French War, but by the American involvement they were usually fairly well supplied with basic uniforms and equipment. This all being said, I look forward to following your blogs to see what you have planned for them.

Finally, thank you again Martin for all your help with the Challenge this year. It's always a pleasure to have you with us, not only as a participant, but as a minion as well. Ta!

What an absolutely smashing collection of character miniatures John! Each and every one of them is worthy of commendation in their own way but if I was forced to make a choice for favourite it would be Reaper Xiufang, Femme Fatale. The saturated jade green you've chosen for her dress and gloves is wonderful and the pick flowers are a lovely counterpoint. Kudos mate, these are awesome!

My Vietnam war project is progressing very quickly. I bought some VC from Westwind - 40 metal 28mm figures for £30! Ridiculous bargain. The figures are terrible. Poor sculpts with huge amounts of flash. 

They have painted up quite well, like Old Glory - unpainted figures look terrible, painted ones look great. These aren't that good but for 75p each I'm not complaining

There are 40 of them armed with LMGs, AK47s and rifles

Also made up some more jungle, this is 210 cubic inches and brings my jungle total up to 5 square feet!

I've also tinkered about with my previous photos of the USMC and NVA to show the figures better

Off to by a few more USMC to give me a full platoon with support, I was too M60 heavy

I've been a bit slack on the painting front of late, so I thought that a religious ceremony may help me get my mojo back.

Shrine: Dearly beloved Challengers, let us bow our heads, and create … a religious-themed entry in this chamber. A model which is worshipping, praying, genuflecting, preaching, pilgrimaging, scourging, crusading, venerating … or maybe just visiting parishioners for tea. Clerics welcome!

As Terry Pratchett said, "you can tell it's for religious purposes as there is a channel to carry the blood away."

I picked up this piece in the sale at my local game store and think that it will fit nicely into my Age of Arthur collection that has been long neglected.

The figures are from Westwind and are from the "Druids Making a Sacrifice (SHS) with rock & goat" set.

This year, I managed to sneak in to my challenge entries ducks, chickens, dogs, horses and now a goat is added to the ensemble, maybe a side duel for next year could be undertaken.

If we count the goat on a rock as the same as a 28mm figure then with the location bonus this will add 40 points to my total.
