From StuartL - The Final Whistle - Lady Sarah's Star Yacht & Noel's Comet - 155 Points
From PhilH: Taking Sarah's Yacht to avoid a Death Star (30 Points)
From StuartL - Nearly At The Finishing Line - Lady Sarah's Star Yacht and Arrakis (95 Points)
From GregB: Jyn Erso's Band of Rogues for Star Wars Legion (90 Points)
Ready to take a chance, until all of the chances are spent... |
For my final submission to the 12th Edition of the Analogue Hobbies Painting Challenge, we step aboard Lady Sarah's Star Yacht (hey, I need those bonus points) and into galaxy from a long time ago and far away - here is Jyn Erso and her band of "Rogues". These are 32mm figures for the game "Star Wars: Legion". The figures are a mix of "Fantasy Flight Games" miniatures and 3D prints sourced via Etsy.
I caved in to temptation and started "Star Wars: Legion" last year.
The rules are so baroque and overly complicated that I find them to be
barely playable - but the miniatures are generally great, and since
there are a lot of other rules options with which to use these figures, I
have been diving more and more into it. The range of figures from Fantasy Flight (or Atomic Mass, or Private Equity Tools, or whatever they are called these days) is fairly complete, and includes a number of character figures from the "Rogue One" movie.Even better, there is an amazing and talented community of 3D-print file designers out there filling in the gaps - and in this submission we find both kinds of figures.
Nearly all of the "Star Wars" films made under the Disney banner have been very poor. The three sequel films in particular were a tour-de-force in appalling film making, ranging from "very bad film with lazy writing that somehow makes the prequels tolerable in comparison" to "human excrement rendered as a digital HD experience". But there is one exception amid the Disney film wreckage - "Rogue One". It's awesome, just a great film, and certainly my favourite film of the whole Star Wars bunch. As DaveV introduced me to the 3D-printed-figure world for "Star Wars: Legion", I immediately ordered some characters inspired by "Rogue One".
So we have Bodhi Rook, the "brave defector" - this is a 3D printed figure.
Bodhi Rook, ready to help engineer a landing in a captured Imperial shuttle. |
We have Chirrut Imwe and Baze Malbus, the displaced guardians of the Jedi temple. These are also 3D printed figures.
I love the pose on this sculpt - amazing to see what the 3D printing folks can do these days... |
Love that weapon! |
We have a team of Rebel Pathfinders - these are from the box set of the same name from Fantasy Flight Games. These are lovely sculpts, but the plastic-resin used in the manufacturing is bendy and crappy. Once you get the paint on them, they are not too bad, but I have ordered some additional Pathfinders from a 3D print supplier to expand this force later on.
Love that door-gunner character...only downside is that it makes the Pathfinder box very bespoke...hard to add variety when all of the figures are so specific. But lovely sculpts. |
The Pathfinder team, ready for action! |
And last, but not least, we have the amazing Jyn Erso, the young rebel who sets aside bitterness, cynicism and sadness to challenge the evil of the Galactic Empire head-on. This figure is from Fantasy Flight Games. I'm hoping Jyn will be an acceptable figure for a ride on Sarah's Star Yacht!
The sculpting is nice...Jyn is ready to break a knee to make her points... |
Prior to the Challenge, I had painted Cassian Andor and the sincere-yet-tactless droid K-2S0 - both figures from Fantasy Flight Games. They won't count for points here, but it seemed wrong to leave them out of the group photo...
Ten people, ready to fight like a hundred... |
Cassian and K2 lurking in the back of the group photo... |
OK - now for points. We have ten 28mm sculpts here, plus a star yacht ride, which should add up to 70 points.
This will be my final submission to AHPC XII. Thanks to everyone who took the time to leave a comment, and congratulations to all participants, particularly my fellow Fawcett Avenue Conscripts, who have made huge progress against their unpainted figure piles. Thank you to my fellow minions for their assistance, and cheers to our virtual hosts, Curt and Sarah. Thanks for reading, and all the best to everyone!
So, halfway through Rogue One you're introduced to a bunch of new redshirts characters. Spoiler alert- things don't go well for them. I love the last third of the film, but found the first half somewhat forgettable. You have, nevertheless, done this squad proud. They look straight off the silver screen. SW:L sculpts have been measured and scored at 7 points each. You are one with the Force.

From AdamC: last minute projects (70points)
Here are some Irish slingers for Saga. I got a box of plastic Irish from Wargamers Atlantic. I had hoped to get one or two units of slingers out of the box but got 7 figures that would work, sort of... Disappointing.
Don't get me wrong the miniatures are great and I have a bunch more to paint that I will get good use out of but I needed slingers. This is John Alden (Jr I believe) from my friend Dave's game Devil in the Wilderness check it out it's sort of horror in Colonial American but adapts well to other settings.
I added the musket so John here is well armed.
They are two nice figures and will work nicely for Frostgrave.
I'd like to ask Lady Sarah for a lift home as heading to another planet is pointless at this stage. So 7 Irish slingers, 1 colonial witch hunter 1 Foxwoman and 1 anti-Paladin. 10 25/28mm figures for 50 points and maybe an additional 20 Sarah's yacht for 70 points.
From TashaH: Travels Through the Inner Ring [Lune][Star Yacht][Altair IV] (70 points)
I’m currently on the planet of Lune. I can’t imagine a better fit for the theme of ‘Witchcraft and Sorcery’ than an alchemy table.
This table is slightly modified. It is a print from Great Grimoire on myminifactory. It is available as part of the Welcome Pack for their Tribes. It is a 3 piece print. I broke one of the legs taking it off the build plate. Fortunately, I did have this nifty trunk printed off (sorry, I can't figure out where I printed it from) and, as luck would have it, the tabletop fit perfectly on top. I do plan to build the table appropriately, but for now, this works!
I’m going to ask for Lady Sarah’s Star Yacht to take me to Altair IV.
This villager is also a print from the Great Grimoire Tribes Welcome Pack on myminifactory. I’m still learning the intricacies of my new printer and have noticed I’ve messed up a few prints. Unfortunately I didn’t realize how blank her face was until I was almost done with her. She still looks decent from 2 feet!
Landing on Altair IV, I happen across this old robot. How fortunate, one more check off the planet list!
I found this free file on Cults3d. It also came with the fancy, stylized base. It printed very nicely. I utilized my typical painting style of ‘just keep adding more paint until it looks moderately ok’.
We are now heading back to Terra to finish our Challenge journey.
The points:
Alchemist Table/Trunk - 1/2 a point?
20mm figure - 4 points
28mm figure - 5 points
Planet bonus - 40 points
Star Yacht - 20 points
Total 69.5 points
and one skull (that's 201 for me)!!
I like your alchemist's table, it looks very realistic (and skully). 3D printing is modern-day alchemy... Your robot has wonderful oxidation effects. I'm rounding you up to 70 points. Almost there on the planets!

From SimonG: One Final Post -- A Pixie and a Nobody (52 points)
Last stop I suddenly found myself stranded on Lune with my delightful slug lady. Having already visited Terra and Xanth I need to avail myself of Lady Sarah's Interplanetary Taxi Service once again and as payment offer up delightful young Rosa the pixie!
Rose is again a Black Rose Wars figure from Ludus Magnus Studios but very different in style from most of their offerings. Like the baby dragon and griffin I submitted last year this is in an anime style and presents a different sort of painting challenge -- naturalism need not apply!
I did enjoy going to town on the big eyes (without any etched guides to work off) and freckles -- hope you like how she turned out. Also thanks for the advice from Tamsin on colour selection off a prior post 👍
I'll be gifting this one to my wife Katie as she really liked the result. Anyway with Rosa's assistance we have jetted off to Gethen for one final touch down and the completion of my circumnavigation of the three rings. Arriving on Gethen we find that epitome of absence -- Davide Schaivon the Illusionist.
I think this is as good as one could hope for an execution of an invisible man figure. Some of the absences such as the one on the boot on the staff are very well done. The cloak is the biggest weakness of this figure -- it's just too big and bulky. The blouse is also rather fussy and was hard to detail. Finally all of the chalky masks were just a pain in the butt to manage -- oh well we have to take a shot at everything!
Once again he's a BRW figure -- as one of the main playable characters he's a sold 35-40mm scale figure (Rosa topped out at less than 25mm but with that big face lets call her a 28mm). This means that my final total for this ultimate submission is another 52 points (one 28mm and one 40mm figure plus two bonuses).
While I've fallen well short of my target this time around it's been great fun coming along for the ride again and I've really appreciated all of the positive feedback received plus seeing everyone else's work. It's impressive in the diversity of subjects, styles and submitters and great evidence that this hobby is alive and prospering!
Looking forward to seeing you all again in nine months time!

Oh, I love both of these figures, Simon. While the Invisible Man is terrific (I especially like his assortment of masks), I have to say that the Pixie takes the prize with that wonderfully rendered face. I'm sure your wife will be delighted with her.
Thank you for joining us this year, Simon, and I hope to see you with us again when the wind grows cold and the snow flies.
