From MikeF - Tokens, corporate baddies and old friends - 42 points

Further progress on Exploit Zero has been made. As hacking features in the game, the agents need something to hack. Due to years of building space marine rhinos, I have a ridiculous number of control panels that work great as data centres for the hackers to dig into. I also wanted to include some loot objectives and thought I had some future looking treasure chests. When I started painting them however, I realized they were actually generators. Oh well, guess you need some way of charging all those bionic parts.

Certain scenarios require you to capture a VIP and get them off the board. I figured the capture of a corporate CEO or government official would be very thematic. They also deploy with bodyguards that the agents have to neutralize before they get control of the VIP. I put them on clear bases as they are not targetable like other models and are really just a macguffin. Models are from Anvil Industry, Hasslefree Miniatures and 3d print.

Last up are some old friends who met in old Detroit. Crooked-Dice made an ED209 and Robocop miniature which I had to include for the game. Not sure how to integrate them into the game, but enemy agents are available for the different levels of security response.

For points I scored each token as 1 point for 10. There are 5 28mm figures for 25 and I scored Ed 209 as a 40mm figure for 7 points. Total is 42 points.

Now I just need to paint some agents to actually play the game!

Who doesn't LOVE an ED209 (and all the squealing animals noises it made in the original Robocop - fabulous!). Those computer screens are really well done too! 42 points well earned

From MartinC: The Last of the Russians (168 points)

 For my last post it seems appropriate to coincide the last of my Napoleonic Russians with the "free and fair" elections in Russia. I've been working on this project for about a year and now have a sizable force of a division and half of infantry and a division of cavalry and a Russian amount of artillery.

The last unit is the Kiev Grenadier regiment, this post seems laden with irony.

Once again these are Perry plastics with a mix of Perry and tweaked Warlord heads

I needed a couple more brigade commanders. this one I think is elite miniatures and from the estate of Scotty

The last command stand is from the Perry High command pack, a present form Dave (or Matt). THe map is drawn on, but you can't see it

This is a nice duo, and I added the dog, cos I had one.

Thus ends the Russians, for now. I had planned to paint a load of Bavarians to figth them but never got round to it.

Next up a couple of Hasslefree Sci Fi types, to add to my growing collection

It seems appropriate to end on a Lady Sarah figure. I have a weird steampunk German female colonial force and they need a commander

No clue where I got this, probably Scotty, nor who made it. But she's a nice figure.

I like to thank Curt and Sarah for again organise and putting up with this on going madness. It's been a great challenge with some beautiful and imaginative submissions. I'm glad turnip wars is less popular this year. Life has got in the way more than normal but I've posted a healthy total, mainly Russians and Boxers.

Secondly I would like to thank Teemu, you've been a great minion and have a well earned banana.

A great post to end your Challenge, Martin, although I doubt these will really be the last of your Russians. The Kiev Grenadiers look great, let's see which direction they will be heading. The eye catcher of this contribution must, however, be your Lady Sarah figure. A very fine model and surely a very firm and decisive commander for your Colonial Germans, well done! I must agree with you that the lack of  vegetables this Challenge was somewhat refreshing. Your math was slightly off, two mounted Russians still only count as two mounted Russians @ 10 (and you are showing us only one of them I think), so the total will be 168. Still, a fine conclusion to another great Challenge from you!

Bringing us to the next two sections in the final room via the library cart are two more May queen dancers. These were also painted using Foundry skin triads, ProAcrylic whites, Vallejo Ivory and several contrast paints for the wreaths.

Leader Looking At Flowers

This is another Hasslefree miniature I picked up for no reason I can remember back in 2014. He was painted using Foundry acrylics.

The final general section of the library we will visit is the Cooking section. Leading us there is our final May Queen dancer:

Next we present the efforts of a tireless Goblin cook preparing some fresh seafood for the unworthy masses. He is eagerly using his new Necromancer Magic Cookbook, "The joy of cooking really fresh meat". Of course properly aged meat can still be used for an accent...

This rather large 32mm Goblin model was originally from Magnificent Egos but is now sold by Valiant Miniatures. A wonderfully dynamic model it needed a bit of putty work to assemble. This is a friends model I am painting for a Goblin oriented D&D campaign. At some point the left arm was lost and I had to improvise with a plastic human one. Bit of sanding, some glue painted on to soften the lines and he is good as new with a book! It was painted using Vallejo metals, Foundry & Two Thin Coats acrylics and Pro Acrylics Fluorescent paints.

From Millsy: Whilst your "similar to but legally distinguishable from" Asian leader made me laugh, the pick of this post is the goblin. What a wonderfully dynamic and characterful sculpt that is! He's beautifully painted too Tom and will be a real centrepiece for your D&D campaign.

From MartinC: Bit of a Wander About [Local History][Statue of Famous Person][Sarah's Library Cart] (441 points)

So more painting has taken place, no gaming this weekend - it does have a habit of getting in the way of painting.

Lets start at the beginning. My Russian army is nearing the 1st phase of completion, i.e. I have no plans to paint more than I have in the pile, but there are some glaring holes and my opponents have more than me, OK that's not true but my next project is to paint Bavarians, so I'll provide my own opponents. The next 2 units are Russian Ulhan regiments. These were a tough painting challenge and the reason I waited 17 years to paint 28mm Napoleonics

The 2nd regiment is the Polish Regiment. Very similar colour scheme with different hats.

I got both regiments out of a single Perry plastics box i was given for Christmas from DaveD, plus a spare sprue fro Perry's. Overall very pleased with them.

Next up a few 10mm truck from Pendraken for my 10mm Spanish Civil War collection. This is also pretty much complete. I have enough for sensible sized battles, but I know Dave and JamesM, so I suspect I will need a few thousand more to make them happy.

There is no specific paint job for these, they are just trucks.

Next up I need to summon the librarian extra-ordinary to move me to the centre of the library. So I need a suitable female figure. A classy woman needs to be well accessorised, shoes, bag, jewelry and a bazooka

She is another Hasslefree figure with a simple conversion to add a bazooka and shell case from the bits box

She definitely has the post apocalytic feel, although I do see her hunting out alien invaders.

So now I'm in a new room I should post some figures. 1st up is the Local History theme. Coming from Staffordshire but living in Newcastle gives me lots of opportunities. Hadrians wall, Flodden Field, Border Reivers, The Coldstream Guards, Northumberland Fusiliers and the Durham Light Infantry. I'm sure there are more I've missed out but I wanted to paint something for a project I'm working on. I have a bit of thing for the back of beyond, especially between the world wars. During the Russian Civil War the Britsh invaded near Murmansk, initially to stop the Germans and eventually joining with the Whites. One of the units that fought there was the Durham Light Infantry

I acquired these following the sad passing of our friend Scotty. They are lovely figures, no clue who makes them. 

Couple of mortars and a Vickers. This completes the figures I have for the force, it is a sensible size with a lot of machine guns.

Finally the Statue of a Famous Person. 

This is Irena Sendler, a nurse inthe Warsaw Ghetto. She rescued, along with the network she set up, 2500 children. There is a movie about her staring Anna Paquin. The figure was the figure at the last Partizan and a nice figure to end this post with.

TeemuL: Very kind of you, preventing me from moaning. Your brushwork makes me happy, too. Especially the Ulhans, but if it took 17 years to start them, the end result is well worth the wait. And the Durham Light Infantry, too, but the lady with bazooka is ready to take them all - and be victorious. Good progress on the Library Map, only a couple of more to go! And if you have more of these "gameless weekends", you'll be shattering your target in no time at all.

From MartinC: Quiet Week [Manga] (75 points)

Hi. I've had a quiet week, with a whole weekend of gaming, my Russians fought their 1st battle so no guessing what happened there, and we fought the 1st battle of a Norman invasion of Britain - lost again but the Normans had a pyrrhic victory and I'll kick their arse next time.

So not much time for painting but I have done some.

1st up a small unit if US Cavalry circa 1900. No clue who made them but they will fit into a Back of Beyond campaign

No much to say about these really

The shirts were painted Andrea Blue and then given a blue wash, I really like the effect

Next up my Manga entry. It's not a field I'm an expert in but generally it is sexualised female leads in skimpy schoolgirl or sailor uniforms, brightly coloured hair and ridiculous weapons. Well I'm not searching the internet for Japanese schoolgirls, I'd never get any painting done. I did want to paint Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots by The Flaming Lips, as it's one of my favourite songs, but schoolgirl uniform problem.

Hasslefree are my go to site for sexy female warriors. 

I think she fits the bill, in her silver catsuit, orange hair and blue sword.

TeemuL: Your cavalry looks good, Martin. I bet they will perform as well as your Russians in their first game... But at least you are painting and playing with your toy soldiers, so that is a good thing. I myself managed to play 5 games last year and not a 1 this year... But back to you, I seem to wander a lot today. Yes, the cavalry looks good and I'm with you on the Manga experience, so I'll accept your description and production. Hasslefree does some very sexy female warriors, I have bougth some, but not recently - ordering process to get something from UK to EU is just so painful, slow and complicated. The blue sword and orange hair work nicely with the silver, great colour choices.

TomL: Fantasy (165 points)

 

My original Hasselfree Fantasy sorceress was summoned to another plane of existence after I primed her but before she was painted. While this caused me quite a bit of consternation, one must accept this sort of behavior from sorceresses. So, we have called upon another primed Hasselfree fantasy miniature, young Sarah, to summon the library cart. This sculpt was the winner in an amateur sculpting contest.  Coming out from the dark and cold woods, this pale, slightly green looking child clutching a lovingly worn effigy of Cthulhu stands ready to escort you to a grimmer, darker Fantasy section of the library.

This week’s unit has been waiting for paint for a long, long time. Long ago these new plastic figures were a huge upgrade on the horrendous out of scale mono-pose plastic Skaven clan rats I had. Bought, assembled, and primed in record time upon release, I painted only one of 3 boxes before work derailed me. My gaming group stopped playing WFB next and the units were relegated to sitting on the shelf for over a decade.  Well for some of them that wait ends this week.

These were painted using mostly contrast paints. I plotted my colors from light to dark and mostly ignored small mistakes.  Covering up a multitude of slips, details such as bandages & armour were painted in last using Vallejo Metal color and foundry paints.  Then the entire model was given a coat of Vallejo Game wash to tie everything in, hide mistakes and generally dirty up the models.  A clean bright Skaven just does not look right. To break up the look a little more I used “Dirty Down” Rust on some of the weapons and armour. The Enginseer was painted before except for a final wash and basing so he is not counted in the points.

For points I have 165.

25 28mm figures * 5 = 125 points.

Sarah’s cart = 20 points.

Fantasy bonus = 20 points.

These would apply to the “The Old World” challenge as well.  

From Millsy: I think these are the most colourful Skaven I've ever seen and I have to say I like it! The wash does enough to make feel verminous without taking away too much of the colour variation. Nice work mate. Young Sarah is also a treat and the way you've photographed her is brilliant, framed by the woods like she's been on an adventure. Love it! 165 points added to your tally sir.
