From QuinnM: last post? (55 points)

Hello, for probably the last time this challenge.

This week we have The actual last of my stormcast eternals to paint. It's a unit of liberators. These were given to me by my brother for Christmas. And I wanted to get them painted during the challenge but didn't have too much time to actually build them so this week all was putting together and painting them. I'm not sold on the banners And I'll probably go back and paint in some more detail and shadows later, but for now they are certainly tabletop ready.

And then for probably my last model of the challenge, we have another lizardman that I painted up with non-metallic metals as a test piece. Any recommendations for non-metallic metals are appreciated.

for points we have

11X 28mm footman @ 5 points = 55

As for the painting challenge It was fun. It certainly pushed me to paint a variety of different models in different painting styles and learn different techniques. It was also really fun to be able to check in everyday and see some more painted models from everyone.

And one last Big thank you to Curt and all of the minions for putting this on.

Sylvain. I'm glad to hear that you found a lot of benefits and fun in participating in this Challenge. For my part, I did enjoy looking at your weekly production and commenting on them. I really like your toned-down colors and I might find inspiration in them for my own painting techniques. If this was really your last post, then see you next year!

From QuinnM: Just Variety and The Inconstant (205 points)

I took 2 weeks off painting as I was feeling burnt out but I came back strong this week. I have a number of different things from stormcast to skaven and the last batch of elves.

First we have the last few Stormcast I have unpainted. A lord relictor and a unit of reclusians. the paint scheme for them is really simple silver armor with blue, purple and red accent colors. they are painted differently for the rest of my stormcast as they are part of the more religious sub faction and i wanted to differentiate them

Next we have a clawlord on Gnaw-beast from the Skaventide box. I wanted to try source lighting from the gnaw portal on the base but the little bit I did wasn't great so I left it at that as this is a commission piece for a friends Skaven army.

On top of the clawlord I painted up a acolyte globadier for them and it was real fun as I got to paint up a glowing orb for the first time. It is not perfect but they are happy with the final look.

For the inconstant i panted the last of the space marines from my friend and in all honesty i'm a not sure about this one. he is panted up as the space marines 2 fan chapter the crayon eaters. where every panel of armour is a different color and to rely show this the clock is painted in a rainbow camo(yes i know that is a oxymoron) that a washed with a black speed pant. a lot of the colors turned out great most of them are hiding behind the gun. but the pink i had was not blending so i ended up mixing my own and got more of a salmon. so there is a before and after.) i could not think of something more inconstant than someone that can't stick to a consistent color.

I did also pant up 2 more of the old goblin trolls. I used slightly different oranges as highlighting colors but you can't really tell in the photos.

and lastly I have the last of the elven spearmen. I painted them in one batch over the whole week and boy do I hate batch painting. but they are done for now. we are not going to look at the 150 night goblins sitting in the to-be painted box. next i have the heroes and some horsemen for the elves and it will be my second fully painted army.

35x28mm footman@5 points=175 points

1x28mm cavalry@10 points=10 points

The Inconstant= 20 points

205 points total

Sylvain: Sorry I missed this post from last week. It's really a feast for the eyes that you are offering us this week. Your painting style in general, but especially this week, brings out the grim and dark aspect of some of the miniatures.Great work!

From DavidB: Paladins of Morr (45 points)

My children gifted me with two paint sets from games workshop after my last deployment. Paint, brushes, and minis! I am still not into AoS and prefer the Old-Hammer, but the models are nice and three are actually from warhammer underworlds which some of my friends play. I did not want to paint them up in the blue and gold as the official paint, so they sat for awhile. I always liked the amethyst wizards and their magic. They are all initiates of the god Morr. Morr is a god of death. In the grim universe he really isn't a god of DEATH, but more of a god of "come over and lay down, rest a bit and heal your soul and maybe you can pop back into the game again after a nap"
In some of the old warhammer fiction a priest of  Morr was tending the congregants( dead people) and installing new followers( more dead people) he was a quiet modest monk who was also a veteran soldier. He wasn't too happy when an unsuspecting necromancer began waking the dead.
Using that story, I decided to use brown for robes (modesty) and black for armor (ominous void), and purple. Morr and the Amethyst wizards love purple roses and black.

A conversion with a head from the hammer stormcast eternals, her helmet is on the ground, but she is focused on the fight.

I like the female and male differences and the armor is armor not boob armor....but she still pops that scale mail better than her battle bro!   :)

I spent some time matching the bases to the sculpted ones of their companions. The black armor was done by glazing a contrast paint over fully painted and highlighted metallic paint armor. It still looks like metal , but with an obsidian sheen

a close up of a smashed pot filled with purple rose petals...someone is getting thumped!

the robes were painted with a reddish brown contrast paint then a couple of highlights of khaki and light brown paints.

lost two pictures overnight, but here you can see some more of the detail on the models and bases.

The squad leader is also female and she got a fancy red plume for rank...the pointy hats and plumes are always indicators of rank. beware of anyone with a pointy hat that has a plume.
With this I have a small party of Paladins of Morr. They will happily fight anybody, but they really like to lay the smack down on restless dead and necromancers, in Morrs name. ;)

5 paladins of Morr for 25 points
I will use the ladies for summoning a cushy ride in Lady Sarah's limo, I heard the seats are comfy and beverages are complimentary providing I clean the wet paint off my boots before sitting down!
20 MORR points!

Friday Minion - Gosh David, you're on a purple fix at the moment aren't you? Did you bulk order Luxion Purple?

Like you, AoS largely leaves me cold, though I understand it as a business decision to sell more ridiculously over the top miniatures, then later come back and resurrect the Old World to tap into all of the old grognards' nostalgia.

Nice tidy job on these, and for weaving some background around these AoS minis that's fitting of the old world we all love.

45 points for your tally, that's a bumper week!

From: PaulS -Stormcast strike (75 points)

It took a while to finally get paint to figures this year as we actually went away to see family, losing precious painting time! Anyway, better late than never (or so they say). 2021 has mostly been about terrain, so the lightbox (and the photography skills to go with it) are a little rusty and may need time to pick up again :D

This year's opening shot is a small batch of GW's new Stormcast Eternals. The proportions on these feel a lot better than the original short, very wide design. They still have the derpy death masks though, so I've been through and replaced all of these with 3d printed sallet helmets from Reptilian Overlords. I've also added lots of devotional streamers to them to give a little bit more interest. They have clearly been somewhere sunny as all the writing has faded off the scrolls ;)

Given that Stormcast are all resurrected heroes from across the realms, this seems to fit nicely into the Glorantha segment of the Outer Ring

The basing is to go with the swamp table I spent the year making.

Froma points perspective, that's 11 28mm-ish sized figures, plus the Glorantha points, making a total of 75 points iirc

From DaveD

I like how they have turned out Paul the streamers add a nice touch of extra colour too 75 points it is.

From DrQ: Stormcast Eternals in the Knights Solar (40 points)

For the Knights Solar I've painted up the most knightly and solar models I can find. Here are a few Stormcast Sequitors and a gryph-hound from the Storm Strike box.

These are push-to-fit models with no modularity. But the Sequitor Prime is pretty good regardless.

I tried to paint these all with a makeshift nonmetallic scheme using contrast paints for the heavy lifting of the gradients. My Kharadron Overlords have a true metallic scheme, and I want these models to look distinct. I also used Citadel's Nighthaunt Gloom Technical on the base. I'm not sure if the scheme worked entirely, but they're good enough for tabletop.

Apparently, the gryph-hound is supposed to go with the other Stormcast unit in the box—the Castigators. However, I just felt like painting him (her? them?) up right now.

As far as points, four 28mm models is 20 points plus the challenge are bonus of 20 points is 40 points total. Oh, and two more skulls for my meager skull throne.

From TomG - Eternally Stone Cast - The Golem's Haunt - 25 points

Back so soon? Good, because I've spent the last two days creating these works of joy, just for you all.

As I delve in to the Golem's Haunt, I decided to take a mini I've painted many many times, but this time as something totally different. So here I present to you my stone golem take on a Games Workshop Stormcast Eternal.

I used an airbrush to create progressively more stark zenithal layers, whilst trying to keep to a very limited grey palette. Luckily, bad fortune struck. The airbrush got clogged and started to spit, but this gave a wonderful mottled effect on the stone, which is why I was luckily unlucky.

For the first time in my 20 years of hobby, I tried out lighting effects, and quite frankly it'll also be my last. I'm not keen on the finished look, which I know could be improved on, but it's not for me.

But with all of the negative aside, I was actually really happy with how this chap turned out, something new to me in painting one in a stone texture, but variety is certainly the spice of life.

I hope you liked it and I'll see you next time for dark and gloomy, and maybe a bit of leg...

Points are 5 for a 28mm model plus 20 for a challenge entry = 25 points.

From TeemuL - Brothers in Arms (10 points)

Just getting myself to the score board this year with these two Stormcast Eternals. I developed very quick gold-and-blue theme for them earlier this year when I got tired with my previous Stormcast Eternals chamber. Gold and blue is not very special, they are from Hammerhal of course, but I have not yet given them any real name. It just gold and blue with heavy Druchii Violet wash all over. Then drybrush with lighter blue and silver. Looks rather good, a bit beaten, but still bright, so they are polishing their war gear every now and then, which is only expected.

Knight-Incantor

This Knight-Incantor came from the Getting Started with Age of Sigmar magazine, so it is basically a freebie. There is a small spell effect on the ground, which I painted silver and added some red and yellow ink to make it more magical. Looks rather nice on my lava-type base. His eyes are red and while his hand is up, his eyes are down - looking at the growing spell.

Knight-Heraldor

This Knight-Heraldor came from the Warhammer Quest: Silver Tower Hero expansion pack and he has the same colors as the other knight. In addition to his golden armor, he has golden horn and golden flag... You might say I´m lazy, but I think they just like all things golden, it makes them look stranger and more horrible in the eyes of the enemy.

I just labeled this post as "Brother in arms" without thinking too much, but may be they are brothers. Battle Brothers at least. I think I need to create some fluff for them. Like I said, they are from Hammerhal and are on lava bases, so they are obviously fighting on Realm of Aqshy, the Realm of Fire, and come from the Hammerhal Aqsha part of the twin city of Sigmar.

Two 28mm miniatures gives me 10 points.

________________________________

Lovely work Teemu! I know virtually nothing about the Age of Sigmar, but these two chaps certainly look the business. I like the worn-but-burnished armour effect you achieved and the blue tabards and cloaks set them off nicely. I can see why so many people use these models for 40K conversions as the armour for both 'periods' share many similarities.

10 well-earned points for you, Teemu! Welcome back!
