From Dallas: 18-pounder Gun and Crew plus T-64s! (64 points)

Still waiting on the last base needed to clear the Hall of Heroes, but I have to keep up with painting and posting lest I fall out of the top 20 on the league table! So here are three 15mm T-64 tanks from Battlefront's "Team Yankee" range to add to my growing Soviet force.

These models are just great - easy to assemble, well detailed, and simple to paint. I have the magic Krylon camo spray and it's awesome... one coat, Agrax Earthshade, drybrush highlight, some chips and dirt, done!

The only problem is that I'm now officially out of different-numbered decals for the T-64s...

The next models up are a British 18-pounder field gun and crew from Great War Miniatures.

The gun is commanded by a Second Lieutenant with a megaphone (!). I figured I had to mark it with the ubiquitous Broad Arrow for HM War Dept. property.

The gun comes with a six-man metal crew, plus a pile of shell casings.

Two of the crew are in shirtsleeve order. Uniforms are Mournfang Brown. I highlighted the puttees with Death World Forest just to add a bit of variety to the look.

Here's the boys. One of the awkward elements though is the fact that the traversing handle is cast onto the crewman...

You also get two lads cast to sit on the seats. Say hello boys!

Anyway that's the update... three 15mm tanks are 24 points, 28mm field gun is 10 points plus six crew for 30... total is 64 points. Hopefully that keeps me in the top 20 for a bit :-)

Stay safe everyone!

From Mike W, 28mm Knight [Knights Solar] (30 Cheeky Points)

Having not focused on eth Dungeon Challenge for a while I took the opportunity to post a cheeky model knight to claim the bonus.

Old Warhammer Mk1 plastic Knight

The model is an old Mark One, Warhammer Bretonnian plastic Knight, I have a few of these unpainted guys in a bag in the drawer so I decided to grab one and paint him.

All have had their fancy helms trimmed of antlers, orbs and other items - so hence this guy appears with a simple helmet with cloth decorations.

Quartered Yellow & Green livery,
with red lining and saddlery

I chose to give the knight a yellow and green livery, which some may remember is the same I gave to Empire figures in the last challenge. Again its for the same reason - local non-league football team colours and I just like the combination!

A final rear view of the knight

Not much else to say except that it has the usual white undercoat and after the model was matt varnished I put tufts and electrostatic grass on a base that was pre-covered with fine sand.

POINTS

1 x 28mm Mounted Figure    = 10 Points

Knights Solar Bonus              = 20 Points

TOTAL                                   = 30 Points

From DaveS - The Truth is Out There - 64pts

I'm not saying it was aliens.....but it was aliens.

Or, to put it another way, I recently started browsing the "Other Wargames" area of my FLGS website, and realised that they had a good stock of Wild West Exodus.  This is a game that I had looked at before, bought a starter set for, played one test game, and promptly moved on.  Browsing through the site, I kept coming across the "Watchers" models, and having found them pleasing, decided that I would try painting some and see what happened........

Well, apparently what happened is that I got rather hooked.  The models themselves are a mix of Resin (beautiful), and plastic (needing a fair amount of clean up).  They are a notional 35mm to eyes, making the average human model about 40mm tall.  But then most of these are giant aliens, so...

Starting with one of the "Bosses", the Viridian Prime.  This led to me having to do some hunting around as to what colour Viridian actually was.  The best answer I could come up with was "Bluey Green", and so I went with that.  These are certainly brighter than the official paint job, but I like it.

Next, we have the "Betas".  Less powerful than the Prime, they come in Chigoe (Fly in and murder stuff) and Locust (Stand back and shoot stuff) versions.

Next, we have the Vermillion Sentinels.  So, out came the red paint....

Last of this batch, we have 2 Grey Elites.  These have been made up as "Storm" elites, with jump packs.

Overall, based on their size, I would suggest that these should score

Greys (As 40mm) 2x7pts
Vermillions (As 54mm due to size) 2x10pts
Viridians (As 54mm due to size) 3x10pts

Which would make the lot worth 64pts....

From: AngusW - 28mm 'Badvoc the Bad' - Hall of Traps - 25pts

Thanks to 'Sarah the Sorceress' I have been transported from 'the larder' to the 'Hall of Traps', where young 'Goat' Peter can be seen trapped by the vicious warrior Badvoc the Bad.

Three or four years ago I was allowed to be convinced to purchase some early Saxon miniatures, whilst at the North East of Englands premiere wargame show Battleground. Since then my enthusiasm to paint these has seriously wained. I painted four last winter, and was surprise at how much I enjoyed doing them. I've now completed the all of them of which Badvoc is one. The rest are being held in reserve for 'The Armoury'.

I'm not sure the manufacturer of this 28mm figure, it was purchased used.

It IS Thursday!!!!!!

Happy Thursday, Challengeanistas!  I hope the dawning of this glorious new Thursday finds you and yours well and looking forward to an exciting day on new hobby submissions.  We are just about 2/3rds of the way through Challenge XI and you know what that means?  Yes, that's right, another statistical update on our progress.  SPOILER ALERT: it will be AWESOME!

The last 4 weeks of the Challenge usual sees and 20-25% uptick in level of activity as the pressure of any form of deadline generates a pavlovian response in all of us.  Personally, I'm closing in on the major things I wanted to get done during this Challenge - I've got a few more 15mm Russian troops to finish up for Stalingrad and some scenery tweaks but after that I think its on to other projects like finishing up the last bits of my 6mm Russo-Japanese War project.  I also got a shipping confirmation from Peter at Baccus that my 6mm Successor and Dacian army orders have been dispatched from merry ole England.  They may arrive in time for this challenge also.

How are the rest of you fairing relative to your own expectations for the Challenge?  Anyone entering a response below in the comments will be eligible for a drawing and could receive a fantastic prize *

I guess I should address my shameful absence from my duties last Thursday.  Last week was rather busy, what with repairs to my flooded basement and some work stuff and blah, blah, blah.  The core issue is that I failed to prioritize the importance of this holy undertaking, this 11th Pigment Crusade over such lesser things as personal real estate or my professional and fiduciary responsibilities to my co-investors.  It was a grave error in judgment for which there is no excuse.  I can only plead for your forgiveness.  Consider me pleaded!

Let us never speak of this abominable abandonment again.

* Terms and conditions apply.  The designation of a prize is solely the authors decisions and could be material object or an immaterial form of reward like a happy thought directed in the way of the prize winner.

From TomM: Lair of the Beast: Fomoroid Crusher (30 pts)

And so our descent through the Chambers of Challenge comes through an end, as we stand before the sealed door to the final challenge.

But in order to get there, one must first face this last quest, the Lair of the Spider (well, it became Beasts).

I decided to go for the Fomoroid Crusher from the WarCry range by Games Workshop, a game I read a lot of good things about, but which I haven`t gotten round to play yet, let alone finish a warband.  But I really liked the model, and it is also your protagonist in the Underworlds solo game mode, though as I only completed him now, he has been stand in by a Mordor Troll when my Zarbag Gitz faced the challenge.

It's actually quite a tall model, about twice the size of a GW Ogre, and slightly smaller then the old giant, and it is full of details.  I really liked painting this guy up, and of course being me I couldn`t resist from giving him a slightly Slaanesh influence with the pastels for his clothing and hair, providing just that hint of following the god of Excess as such.

And now it is time to enter the Altar of the Snow Lord, and face the final challenge that will be set before me!

Points wise I have no actual idea on this beast, it is a big bloke standing about two and a half times in height of a stormcast, and I guess it takes about as much plastic volume as for example a 40k attack bike or the likes.  Better safe then sorry, I aim at 10 points for it?  Together with the room that means 30 points total, AND putting me over my 1k goal for this year, huzzaaaah!

from RayR - Donnybrook - Ottoman Bosniak Irregular Infantry 60pts

My last unit (for the moment?) of Ottoman Infantry for the Siege of Vienna in 1683.
The bulk of the Ottoman infantry were composed of Provincial militia and volunteers like Azabs usually armed with halberds or Musket armed mercenaries like Levends (usually from Anatolia or the Balkans) and Sekbans.

These forces were vital for the Ottomans to make up the numbers. They were cheap and disposable and released after each campaign. While defensively and in siege warfare under able leadership these mercenary troops performed well, in field battles they usually performed below par. They lacked discipline, uniform, reliable equipment and were incapable of facing European line infantry in firefights employing salvo and volley fire techniques. They largely performed as individual marksmen which put them at a big disadvantage in firefights, as the slow loading and inaccurate musket required large numbers of bullets fired to put sufficient numbers on targets and to be followed by another rank firing volleys while first reloaded. This required drill and discipline which these Irregulars didn’t possess.

In melee combat however they were capable opponents. To the ottoman military these forces were a financial and strategic necessity. In 1683 over half the provincial forces in Kara Mustafa’s army were composed of this type of troops.

The figures are from the great Warfare Miniatures and can be found here!
Did I mention Donnybrook?

12 figure @ 5pts each adds 60 pts to my total.

From SanderS: Entering the Larder (30 points)

 Hoi,

As we continue our journey through the Chambers of Challenge Arthur and myself enter the Larder.

I do not have food specific stuff lying around but I do have pieces that could contain food. So here are some of my Dungeon dressings that I will use to furnish the Larder with.

There's a nice mix of Heroquest, Terrain Crate and home made stuff in this lot. First is one of my Heroquest cupboards using the original topper with a 3D printed housing.

The two skullz are specially added for Barks of course!

Next up some Terrain Crate stuff with boxes, barrels, a table and benches to use when eating, a pile of wood to cook on and some barricades (one of which is homemade) to protect the Larder from invading monsters, adventurers and Ray.

As points are a bit of a thing with these, let's be honest: easy to paint, terrain pieces; I am going with 10 points for the stuff and another 20 for the Larder.

Cheers Sander
