From Sarah: Where is Elfio? Let’s look in the Romance and Art Sections (70 Points)

The AnalogueVille Librarians are very fond of Elfio, and he is usually quite diligent in his book shelving tasks….. However, there are reports of BOTH mis-shelved & dishevelled books in the Romance & Art Sections, and suspiciously, Elfio keeps disappearing.

Continuing from our last stop in Local History, I thought we’d pop into the Romance Section where shockingly!! We see… the fair maiden, Lady Annabelle swooning, and Elfio …. We close the door and tip toe away…

The Fainting Lady, or my Lady Annabelle is another great figure that I found on MyMiniFactory. To date, she is probably my most favourite figure that I’ve painted. The moment I saw the figure and since I already had painted Elfio, I knew I wanted to do a torrid Classic Romance Novel style post.

Lady Annabelle, resplendent in a lovely spring green gown, white flounces with pink trim, looks very much like Romantic Heroine, though there is a touch of whimsy too!

For fun, I thought I would quickly doodle a book cover to serve as a back drop.

As we continue through the library ….. we enter the Art Section.

Here we find the Great Master Painter, another terrific figure found on MyMiniFactory.

Unfortunately the first print failed and shortly after I began painting the second print, I dropped her and the paint brush in her extended hand broke. I literally cried, but decided to carry on.

I really like her pale blue dress, the colour turned out really well and since I wanted the painter to be exotic/bohemian I thought an elaborate purple hairdo and yellow head wrap would be fabulous details.

So, for this narrative, to explain the broken paint brush, the Great Master Painter has “snapped her crayons” because the wandering rogue Elfio is very late for his portrait appointment.

Again for fun, I did a few quick doodles of Artwork to have around the artist studio.

Points Scored (Elfio, piano and book stacks all previously scored):

Romance location: 20 pts

Lady Annabelle 54mm = 10 points

Art Location: 20 pts

Master Painter 54mm = 10 points

Easel = 5 points (?)

Total = 65 points

Thanks for dropping by

Have a great week!

Another very creative and fine contribution, milady! Your painting is excellent, and your choice of colours flawless of course. I really like the swooning Lady Annabelle, and you definitely achieved the Bohemian look you aimed for with the painter. I really like the little additions you created to depict these scenes, and the location bonuses thus are well-deserved. And I feel your pain with the broken paintbrush (although I admire the way you explained it and used it to your advantage!). 3D printing is a great thing, but the figures can be a little brittle and somehow you always drop them when they are halfway done or nearly complete... Still, all in all you managed quite well and these 65 points are certainly justified! I'll add a couple of bonus points for the creative doodling however. Well done Sarah!

Martijn

P.S. You would make me even happier by including an updated map next time!

From ThomasG: Ironjawz with Fancy Masks - 30pts

Finally the string of birthdays and school holidays is at an end! I can finally get back to some hobby time for me, and I've started with a set of models I received for my birthday. These guys are Orruk Weirdbrute Wrekkaz, and continue in the theme of very large models, even within the range. I've stuck to my army theme of dark reddish skin tones and beaten metal surfaces, however these guys got an orange detail on the trousers, for no other reason than I had a few new orange paints to test out.

     The three figures are all armed with wrecking ball/morning star style weapons, looking truly vicious, I was inspired to give them that extra detail, and added a blood effect to the heads of each weapon, as well as the hands and some of the chains.

     I added a spot colour of blue/grey to add some contrast to all the warm tones across the models, and feel it definitely helped. It is hard as these models have very few materials to work with, and sticking to a limited palette can make them seem lifeless. But the punch of cold blue, and a muted brown base with added slime appears to go a long way.

     Although it was hard to add much in the way of texture, I tried some simple rust effects to the weapon chains so they were still seperate from the armour panels. The blood effect (seen more clearly below) is something I usually avoid, mostly as it can feel a bit tacky, but being a bit more chaotic with the application gave that savage look I wanted.

   Yuk!

     And here we are, at the end of a brief run through these guys. Brutal, savage and bringing my growing army up to 6 models. There's 15 more infantry to come, and then one ginormous character and boar to add to his force and it will be done for now.
     I had a chat with Martijn as to how to score these guys as they're almost twice the size of a 28mm figure, and we agreed to treat them as the equivalent of a cavalry sized figure, to which he very kindly allowed me to score them at 10pts each.

Points:
3 x "Oversized 28mm" = 30pts
Total = 30pts

     Hopefully I'll be able to get more work done soon as the fundamental painting of these guys is incredibly easy, but in that lies the trouble of not wanting to fight the grind. But, hey, that's why this is a challenge!

Tom

Wow, Tom, what fantastic figures and what absolutely fabulous brushwork! You have really brought these Ironjawz to life with your painting, and the use of colours, shades and highlights and the attention to detail is astounding. I think your experiment with the orange went very well, and the flesh and the metals are very convincing. An excellent job on these brutes and 30 well-deserved points for you!

From MartijnN: The Tuesday Tomes Volume VII

 Ah, waffles. The Netherlands, unlike Belgium, is not really known for the culinary qualities of its cuisine. Mind you, there are very good international restaurants, but traditional Dutch dishes consist mainly of stamppot; hotchpotches or mashes, any kind of vegetable or cabbage with potatoes really. Nourishing, but hardly a feast for the taste buds. However, we do have some quite good sweets and pastries. Foremost, for me at least, are stroopwafels, treacle waffles. Two thin waffles with a little layer of treacle or syrup in between. Delicious both cold and lukewarm, and of course freshly baked, the true Dutchman will place his stroopwafel on top of his cup of coffee for some time to soften the treacle. No market in The Netherlands is complete without a stall, stroopwafelkraam, where they are freshly baked. The Dutch would not be the Dutch if they did not sell the crumbs that are left when the stroopwafels are cut into shape too!

As always, Belgian waffles are a little more refined. Although the Belgians know stroopwafels, the most well-known Belgian waffles are Luikse wafels (from Luik or Liège) and Brussels waffles. Luikse wafels are a little thicker and more compact, and contain more (caramelized) sugar, while Brussels waffles are lighter and crispier. Luikse waffles are often eaten plain, although they can be served with toppings of (Belgian!) chocolate, fresh fruit or whipped cream, while Brussels waffles are nearly always eaten with generous toppings of powdered sugar, strawberries, or again fresh fruit and/ or whipped cream. Both variants are very, very good.

Having whetted your collective appetites, its time to turn to today's main course: the production of the Tuesday troopers. We continue to be in a somewhat quiet spell, but we do still have some very nice and tasty entries today. We will see at least:

- from SaraHC: "The continuing exploits of Elfio"

- From TomG: "Orc Dentistry; a guidebook"

And who knows what may come up during the day? Enjoy!
