From PeteB: Gluttony, Greed, Wrath and some other figures (143 points)

I couldn't post last week, so now I have a bit more things to show. I managed to finish three circles of "The Abyss", a Dulcop Robin Hood figure and some 20 mm figures. Let's start with the circles.

Gluttony - Paul Hicks - Lamme Goedzak and friends - 28 mm - 35 Points

These figures are the CRISIS 2017 Antwerp figures. For those who has been there they know there was always an entry figure in the goodie bag. That year it was Tijl Uilenspiegel and you could buy two extra figures and a base. And one of the extra figures was Lamme Goedzak, a man that like food and wine very much. Two things on the figure point in that direction, a spoon and a rabbit. the third figure is Nele, girlfriend of Tijl. For this circle I couldn't seperate them. 

Unpainted figures

Points:
- Gluttony                        = 20 Points
- 3 x 28 mm foot figures = 15 Points

- Total                              = 35 Points

Greed - Crescent - Sheriff of Nothingham - 54 mm - 30 Points

This figure made by Crescent joined the gang of Prince John for more power and fill his pockets. That's why I choose him for thsi circle. You can find him as an original Crescent figure but also from Kellogg's. Only the markings under the base can make that clear. This one I'm showing is original. I only have the Kellogg's figures complete and unpainted. This one had some paint on him so now he looks better. The color pallet I took was random.

Wrath - 3D - Plague Doctor - 54 mm - 30 Points

The plague was also known as "The Wrath of God" and therefor this doctor is the ideal figure for this circle. The figure is a 3D print (no brand) made by a German friend of me. I paint these figures for my wife because she reads everything that has the plague as subject. The first one was from Speira Miniatures (= link to my blog) and since then I collect and paint them for her. Second one can be found here. I have some more to paint but not now.

Points:

- Wrath                   = 20 Points

- 1 x 54 mm figure = 10 Points

- Total                     = 30 Points

Dulcop - Robin Hood Merry Man - 54 mm - 10 Points

I couldn't paint that villian of Nothingham without one of the heroes to give some resistance. An old Italian figure, hard to get like the Napoleonic figures. Lovely figure to paint and I'm happy with the result.

Points:

- 1 x 54 mm figure = 10 Points

Waterloo1815 - Roger's Rangers - 20 mm - 38 Points

These figures were lying way to long in a box unpainted. I've got one sprue of these from a swap with a friend. When I started on them I saw two figures with snow shoes and the other eight without. So I based two groups on gras and the others in the snow. I base these figure only for storage as I'm not a wargamer. A review of these figures can be found on Plastic Soldier Review.

Boxart

I've painted the edges of the bases red to mark them as British troops. I know that the rules say that a lying figure is only half of the points, and I counted him that way, but I'm not sure that the figure is really lying. I've painted the whole figure before it was put on the base because most of the equipment he's wearing is visible. I let it to Teemu to make a decission.

Points:

- 9,5 x 20 mm figure = 38 Points

TeemuL: Wonderful and varied entry, I especially like your Sheriff of Nottingham and the Plague Doctor. Great colours on them! No issues with the others, either, I find your brushwork pleasing my eyes. Quite a grab of bonus points, too. I'll give you full points for the half lying mini, because 1) you say you fully painted him and 2) I'm the bestest of minions.

AndrewB - English Bad Guys! Literary! (175 points)

Hello everyone!   This week I completed some generic English bad guys, inspired by the costuming in Braveheart, and matching some mounted figures I painted in a challenge gone by!   

This first batch of 16 are a pack of the Sheriff of Nottingham/Prince John’s men from the literary classical lore of Robin Hood, along with a smaller pack of characters, who you can see in the front.  Looks like we have Guy of Gisborn, King Richard himself(ok, he’s a good guy), Prince John, and finally the depraved Sheriff of Nottingham.  Their twelve generic bad guys have a real flunky, and less organized feeling to them, and I’m a big fan.  On to the next group!

These fellows are certainly more along the lines of generic Norman bad guys a la Ivanhoe, but they should mix fine for generic bad folks in skirmish style gaming, when we’re not going for ultra accuracy, but a fun game in the highlands or Sherwood Forest!   Maybe I’ll get an Aethelstan or Gurm figure together to run alongside some noble Saxons, time will tell!  Quite happy with how the two separate periods of figures work well together, thanks to the unified paint scheme.  Let’s put them together for a group photo! 

I’ll be happy to see them on a table!  As for points this week, there’s 31 28mm minis for 155, plus the Literary Section, for a total of 175pts!  More next week!

Well, we definitely have a lot of "bad guys"....not sure about the literature connection, but these certainly are some pretty famous characters, and I certainly don't have the intellectual credibility to tangle with anything that might be connected to Piers Plowman, so I guess this can work. Very nice brushwork on these associated denizens of Sherwood Forest Andrew - 175 points for your total.

This time P is for Personality

Robin & a few of his merry men and of course maid Marion

As usual I just about bit off more than I could chew again this week and am hurriedly putting the finishing touches to this my 9th entry, having completed the flocking a few minutes ago just as bedtime approaches here on Sunday evening in NZ

This time I've made a return to Footsore Miniatures Barons War range, a lovely set of figures sculpted by Paul Hicks

Choosing a personality is a difficult choice as there are so many wonderful options available from a myriad of manufacturers. My initial thought had been to paint some ECW leaders but this would only have meant completing a few figures and not making much of an inroad into the leadpile. In the end the prospect of painting a larger number of figures told and I decided to get some of my Barons War figures completed. 

Even then there were a number of other personality figures that I could have chosen from but unfortunately I'd already made a start on two of my favorites in the range - Llewelyn ap Gruffydd, Prince of Wales and  William Marshall before the challenge had started.

Another possible choice was Phillip Marc Sherriff of Nottingham but who'd want a baddie eh?    

These are from the figures listed as outlaws and include a few extras like gamekeeper and Poacher

The not so hairy one is Friar Tuck, with Little John to his right

This drab lot are from the peasant levy range

As is usual with my approach I plunged into the project without too much careful planning and consequently need more basic troops like spearmen, crossbowmen and bowmen (the ones I have are already painted).

Consequently the Sheriff doesn't have any of his own baddies and rogues.

As a result some of the Foot Sergeants I have were hurriedly painted and used in the scene above though these are of course in the liveries of Llewelyn ap Grufydd and William Marshal, being intended for use with some of my other retinues. These men, being mainly decent upstanding Welshmen would, I'm sure never be seen dead in the service of such a rogue as the Sheriff of Nottingham

So adding things up I have

1 Mounted figure at 10 points

A cart which I'll count as an artillery piece @10 points

46 foot figures @ 5 points

(There are 52 figures in total but I've not counted 6 figures and the 2 carthorses as these were started pre-challenge)

I think this gives me 250 points and at least 1 squirrel possibly 2 (1 for the outlaws and 1 for the sergeants?)

 

Its just as well that I didn't attempt the 14 villagers that I thought I could manage as well! or I'd never have finished)

More lovely work from you, Kerry! Really, who doesn't love Robin Hood? What a wonderful band of rogues and scoundrels you're treating us to here. While the character figures are magnificent (maid Marion and Little John are particularly brilliant), I do love all the foot sergeants in their red and yellow livery - very sharp those.
