From QuinnM: last post? (55 points)

Hello, for probably the last time this challenge.

This week we have The actual last of my stormcast eternals to paint. It's a unit of liberators. These were given to me by my brother for Christmas. And I wanted to get them painted during the challenge but didn't have too much time to actually build them so this week all was putting together and painting them. I'm not sold on the banners And I'll probably go back and paint in some more detail and shadows later, but for now they are certainly tabletop ready.

And then for probably my last model of the challenge, we have another lizardman that I painted up with non-metallic metals as a test piece. Any recommendations for non-metallic metals are appreciated.

for points we have

11X 28mm footman @ 5 points = 55

As for the painting challenge It was fun. It certainly pushed me to paint a variety of different models in different painting styles and learn different techniques. It was also really fun to be able to check in everyday and see some more painted models from everyone.

And one last Big thank you to Curt and all of the minions for putting this on.

Sylvain. I'm glad to hear that you found a lot of benefits and fun in participating in this Challenge. For my part, I did enjoy looking at your weekly production and commenting on them. I really like your toned-down colors and I might find inspiration in them for my own painting techniques. If this was really your last post, then see you next year!

From Millsy: Kruleboyz Marshscrawla Sloggoth + Army Shots! (35 points)

G'day All,

Here it is, the very last unit for my Warcry / Age of Sigmar Kruleboyz! I now have a complete Spearhead with extras and all that's left are big kits and stupidly expensive limited edition models so it'll be like this for a while I think.

The Marshscrawla Sloggoth is a gruesome monsta (sic) that the Grots (aka goblins or gobbos) ride like the wealthy members of the Raj once rode elephants with howdahs. There's certainly worse jobs going around if you're a Grot.

Chained and crawling low to the ground at all times so it's passengers aren't tipped out the back like a skip load, it's no wonder the poor beast looks unhappy with his lot. Even so, that's no excuse for poor personal hygiene. Check out that old man ear fuzz! Ewwwwww!!!

His Grot handlers use a range of man catcher type equipment to snare their prey and then chain them at the back for return to wherever they came from. Are these poor unfortunates prey food for their ride? Food for their larger Kruleboy cousins? Or is this all a pointless exercise and really just something to pass the time?

I've made a few upgrades to the out-of-the-box kit adding the shields to the sides and an extra head from my spares box. Without these it seemed a bit weedy and didn't have enough yellow to look the part amongst the rest of the army. There's also a sneaky Stormcast Eternal sinking inexorably into the mire on the base.

Points-wise I guess this counts as a vehicle and crew for a total of 35 points. What's 15% of a Stormcast Eternal worth, if anything at all? Only Sarah knows!

I'm absolutely stoked to have this final piece completed and ready for the table. Here's a few gratuitous shots of the entire force...

1 x 28mm "vehicle" and 3 x 28mm crew = 35 points.
I really need to make better choices when it comes to painting time ROI!

Hello Millsy
Oh wow, the Marshcrawler sluggoth is wondrously horrific and the whole combined force look quite fierce and I would think are also quite smelly. The extra bits added to the sluggoth definitely add impact and add to the storytelling aspect of the mini. Very cool!

From QuinnM: Just Variety and The Inconstant (205 points)

I took 2 weeks off painting as I was feeling burnt out but I came back strong this week. I have a number of different things from stormcast to skaven and the last batch of elves.

First we have the last few Stormcast I have unpainted. A lord relictor and a unit of reclusians. the paint scheme for them is really simple silver armor with blue, purple and red accent colors. they are painted differently for the rest of my stormcast as they are part of the more religious sub faction and i wanted to differentiate them

Next we have a clawlord on Gnaw-beast from the Skaventide box. I wanted to try source lighting from the gnaw portal on the base but the little bit I did wasn't great so I left it at that as this is a commission piece for a friends Skaven army.

On top of the clawlord I painted up a acolyte globadier for them and it was real fun as I got to paint up a glowing orb for the first time. It is not perfect but they are happy with the final look.

For the inconstant i panted the last of the space marines from my friend and in all honesty i'm a not sure about this one. he is panted up as the space marines 2 fan chapter the crayon eaters. where every panel of armour is a different color and to rely show this the clock is painted in a rainbow camo(yes i know that is a oxymoron) that a washed with a black speed pant. a lot of the colors turned out great most of them are hiding behind the gun. but the pink i had was not blending so i ended up mixing my own and got more of a salmon. so there is a before and after.) i could not think of something more inconstant than someone that can't stick to a consistent color.

I did also pant up 2 more of the old goblin trolls. I used slightly different oranges as highlighting colors but you can't really tell in the photos.

and lastly I have the last of the elven spearmen. I painted them in one batch over the whole week and boy do I hate batch painting. but they are done for now. we are not going to look at the 150 night goblins sitting in the to-be painted box. next i have the heroes and some horsemen for the elves and it will be my second fully painted army.

35x28mm footman@5 points=175 points

1x28mm cavalry@10 points=10 points

The Inconstant= 20 points

205 points total

Sylvain: Sorry I missed this post from last week. It's really a feast for the eyes that you are offering us this week. Your painting style in general, but especially this week, brings out the grim and dark aspect of some of the miniatures.Great work!

From Millsy: The Last (Almost) of the Kruleboyz (62 points)

G'day All,

This is my penultimate Kruleboyz post for this Challenge. There's one monster left which couldn't be finished to make in into this post so it'll appear sometime before the end of the Challenge instead. Just TWO more of these crazy yellow shields to go thankfully...

Shaman Muranduh!

I have still managed to finish the final ten Gutrippaz though, bringing the total to thirty which is a decent chunk of core troops. There's also a Shaman and Pot Grot offsider to add a magical/mystical flavour to the swamp. Goodness knows what goes into the pot given the colour, but I'm 99% certain it's not blueberries.

The tally...

  • 11 x 28mm infantry = 55 points
  • 1 x 40mm infantry = 7 points

Total = 62 points.

Honestly, I know nothing of the Kruleboyz but I do appreciate their skillz in accessorizing! I like all the bits&bobs of the Shaman and the Pot Grot dude is prepared for anything
Be strong Millsy, you CAN paint two more yellow shields  and beautifully too :)

62 points to your scoreboard
