Here we have two ships, an English Frigate and an American Sloop of War in company with 3 Brigs.
The Frigate is a 3D print given to me by my friend Arofan who has provided me with many hulls form his ship yard.
I have christened her the HMS Lydia Hornblower's 36 gun frigate from "Beat to Quarters" (or Happy Return)
The sloop is an American ship built form a pair of Warlord brigs as you have seen me do before.
She can work for USS Wasp or USS Peacock or any other US sloop of war of that period.
I don't believe it was common on Warships but merchants certainly used it (especially in the far east).
The final Brig has British Merchant colors.
Hi. For your information the British Naval Flag Officers were in three Squadrons. Red, White and Blue. A ship flew the Ensign and Pennant in the colour of their Commanding Admiral. So the Pennant and Ensign should be the same colour. See here for details: http://www.larsonweb.com/Transfer/Miniatures/Sail/NAPSHIPS.htm
