In the mean time, here is a small submission to keep my progress going this week. The entry is an amalgamation of some left over African Militia from Spectre miniatures and some Islamic Terrorists from Spectre as well (Sorry Curt, those words probably just got this blog flagged by the CIA, FBI, and more). The figures themselves are awesome as usual from Spectre, lots of detail on them and accurate (if thin) weapons.
Total there are 18 figures here, all done to a very basic table top level. Essentially a base colour, wash, highlight, some very small details. Since all of these miniatures will be on, and then off the table so quickly, I just couldn't justify a whole lot of time on them (as is evident in the pictures).
To play the games I want with them, I need about 40-50 Terrorists or Militia facing 4-8 special forces troopers, so I tend to spend time on the spec ops guys as they will be the focus of any game as they stick around for the whole time (normally).
On the table though with them swarming around my Middle East city terrain, they really get the right image across and work very well.
Oh well, more to come next week.

These they are very nice Byron. I think the fellows in the bright jackets, ball caps and blue jeans nicely convey that they are a mob of irregulars/civilians.
I look forward to seeing them set within a block of your excellent buildings, trying to chase down a group of 'operators'.
90 points to add to your tally, Byron. Well done and I hope you're feeling better.
Lovely work Byron :)
ReplyDeleteModern wargaming is my thing I love these.
ReplyDeleteThanks Clint, mind if I ask what rules you use?
DeleteWhile I love the Spectre figs, I really do not care for their rules (I keep wanting to like them as they are really detailed, but they just are not for me), so am looking for options. Specifically something that works well with very a-symetrical forces, which I know stretches any systems ability to function well.
For me it all comes down to what you want from the game. "Force on Force" do work but only for big Battles. "Skirmish Sangin!" are my current favourite just edging it on FNG (FNG are Vietnam rules). Not tried Spectre, I bought the rules but have failed to read them so far.
DeleteFor more than 1 or 2 squads Force on force or Bodycount (again a Vietnam set of rules and now OOP)are pretty good.
If you want to discuss it at more length send me an email. But no set of rules will suit everyone.
email sent.
DeleteGiven the 4-5 special forces against 40+ insurgents I think I would try Skirmish Sangin as my start place.
In the future I would like to do "the battle of Mirbat" 9 British SAS troops against 300! The 300 Arabs only made 1 mistake, they did not bring enough men! (as the quote from Soldier B says )
Very nice. I hope your feeling better so we get to see the big submission next week
ReplyDeleteGet better soon, I wish I could paint to THAT tabletop quality
ReplyDeleteIan
Thanks Ian, but I am sure you can (anyone can), they are super basic, I didn't even paint eyes (sacrilege)! They are simply base coloured, washed with agrax earthshade, then highlighted with the base colour again, then done. Literally 20 minutes or less a figure. I felt kinda bad posting them as they were so fast, but they like I said, no real need to be any better as they die in droves so quickly.
DeleteMeanwhile, Trump is reading the daily intelligence briefing and asking, "So SPECTRE is backing Islamic terrorism...?"
ReplyDelete; )
Great work, Byron!
Trump can't stay focused on anything longer than a Tweet (so 140 characters), so pretty sure he will never ever read a daily intelligence briefing, so we are safe! hmmm, intelligence may disqualify him anyway, they may need to come up with a new format and name for that...
DeleteNice work Byron. Hope you are feeling better.
ReplyDeleteGreat looking moderns Byron. Love the building too, I may have to get me one.
ReplyDeleteTake care and drink lots of fluids!
Very nice painting Byron! You might consider them being basic TT standard, but I'd be more than happy to face these on a table.
ReplyDeleteVery nicely done!
ReplyDeleteWhere did you get the building that the wretched scum and villainy are using as their hideout?
I made it on my laser cutter, and sell them as well (although right now my production is on hold for a while due to some issues). I have about 7 different designs for the Middle East buildings.
DeleteAwesome. Let me know when you get those issues sorted out. I can always use more terrain!
DeleteThese turned out great, can't wai to see them on the tabletop.
ReplyDeleteVery nice Byron, I do like to see these more unusual forces as part of the challenge.
ReplyDeleteCracking stuff!
ReplyDeleteNice work Byron - I always get a kick out of your slumming around with a "tabletop standard" LOL.
ReplyDeleteThese look very sharp...maybe the only thing I wonder at is how small the weapons are - was that a hassle?
Get better soon my friend!
For a bunch of guys in walk-on parts, these are lovely. The shading on the clothes is painstakingly done, I like them a lot.
ReplyDeleteThese might me a tabletop job Byron, but they look great
