from RayR - Vienna 1683 - Ottoman Irregular Foot - 15mm 96pts

I'm squeezing in a second post for today, its 23.48 Saturday night and I didn't think I'd get these 48 15mm figures finished, but I'm glad I've got them done!

Once again these Essex minis are for my 15mm Vienna 1683 project. I needed 4 units of Irregular infantry for the Ottomans.

In the scenario the list says 4 units of Irregular foot. I was going to go with all musket armed infantry.

But instead chose 2 units of foot...

A bow armed unit...

And quite possibly a pretty useless unit of spear and shield armed troops.
I'm pretty please as there's now a lot of red ticked off now!!

They did take a little longer than I wanted to to paint them up, as each figure, being Irregular, is painted in random colours.

Apart from the Fez and Turban of course!

So my 4 units of 12 figures each will earn me...96 points!

From DaveD . Yay Ray , good lad for cracking on and taking a second bite at today’s cherry . Good job on irregular colour schemes . They have come out mighty fine . 96 it is .

From KillianF: Medieval Medley plus many extras (185 points)

Good day all,

Between a return to work and a minor illness over the last few weeks I've found it hard to keep up. I have however managed to finish the following:

3 weeks' work

Medievals (Medbury Miniatures)

5 mounted hobilars

2 mounted knights

2 dismounted men at arms

2 archers

I 3d printed the blue and yellow shield on the left, which resulted in a straight layer line 3/4 of the way up. This actually assisted in dividing the shield for painting!

Excellent faces as always from Mr Medbury
The colour scheme is deliberately anarchic, but I tried to pull all the shields into something similar. I will add some heraldry at a later date, and refine the mounted knights a bit more. These guys will see duty mainly in SAGA as Scottish or French, and also Midgard.

Napoleonics

5 Austrian Uhlans

On a whim I decided to smash out some of my 28mm Austrian Napoleonics. The cavalry are my favourite branch of this army, and Uhlans are my favourite cavalry type. Interesting uniforms, interesting history.

So here's 5 Uhlans of the 1st Regiment.

Fellow on the right is missing a plume. Worse things happen in battle.

They are 3d prints by Piano Wargames. Before I print more I'm going to digitally remove the lance and leave a hole for brass wire: the resin lance bend at very slight temperature increases, and hot water straightening only lasts 24 hours or so. I went with a few varieties of horse colouration, my favourite being the piebald on the left. Overall an interesting painting experience: these are my first Napoleonics complete, so figuring out how to achieve each colour was a bit different to my normal, more freestyle, approach.

Afterlife (Anvil Industry)

4 Unity Council Special Operatives & Gabriella Aguilar

I've always had a soft spot for Anvil Industry's Afterlife range, and they've spent the last four years or so updating them as part of their digital range. These guys are essentially stealth suited deniable operatives, up to all sorts of dirty trick.

They were painted by priming black and then drybrushing a couple of layers of grey up to a very light coat of near white. They then received an all-over wash of Payne's Grey ink (possibly my single favourite colour) mixed with AK Interactive matte varnish (as seems to be tradition with all the Anvil Industry models I paint....). The lenses and weapon sights were then painted with titanium white, given a very small black wash at the edges, and finally Tamiya Clear Yellow was applied over the top. Like my zone raiders, it's not very tactical. However it does give them some colour, and ties them into the scheme I've used for the rest of my Unity Council faction, who all likewise have yellow visors.

I painted Gabriella with a deliberately darker skin tone. A paler skin tone would have increased contrast, but I've just painted several dozen models with white skin and I wanted some variety. The base is Vallejo Cavalry Brown, highlighted by mixing the brown with Vallejo Beige-Red and then Titanium Buff.

Epic Armageddon

6 Steel Legion Chimera IFVs

I smashed out these for my small Steel Legion army. These are 3d prints available online for free (Mk Hand Industry). For absolutely no good reason I magnetised the turrets. Epic is, in my opinion, the correct scale for Warhammer 40k: it actually gives a sense of scale. I tried to add a camo pattern by spraying tan over the brown basecoat through medical gauze. It didn't quite work as planned unfortunately, probably because the spray cans are too high pressured. Still, the tan colour works, so I'm rolling with it. They will get based at some point, to match the Steel Legion infantry currently being painted.

Spaceships

And lastly, I painted two space ships.

They are more 3d prints, from a designer called Grand Fleet Admiral, that have been hanging around on my desk for about 2 years. These will likely see use in the second edition of A Billion Suns. The schemes have been kept simple, so they were pretty quick to paint. My airbrush is out of commission at the moment, so I used a dry brush followed by white ink to paint the engines. Quite a nice and simple project to clear some models off the desk. I have no idea what the claim points wise. Probably 2 points a piece?

Points

7x 28mm Medieval Cavalry: 70

4x 28mm Medieval Infantry: 20

5x 28mm Austrian Napolenic Cavalry: 50

5x 28mm Afterlife Infantry: 25

6x 6mm (technically 8mm) vehicles: 12

2x small scale spaceships: 4

Total: 181

Squirrel points: +3

Squirrel Total: 10

(Zona Scavengers, 10mm Black Orcs, 10mm Skeletons, 28mm Goths, 28mm Elves, Dwarves and Orcs, 28mm medievals, 28mm Austrian Napoleonics, 28mm Afterlife)

Thanks for reading!

Killian

From DaveD . Hey Killian , you are early today ! Good job . It was good to catch you on the chat this week . This is a great mix of things .I am always a fan of any lancers , te colours on Austrian ones are cool. Definitely worth replacing the lances with a metal version . think the space ships are my personal favourite . 185 it is with a little spaceship bonus.

DavidB - Scifi buildings (40 points)

These have been on my desk for a long moment. I needed some terrain other than the barriers for Star Wars Legion.

There were many buildings in thingiverse, for Legion and I really liked this dilapidated Tatooine hut

I used craft paints to block in colors then used the first generation army painter contrast paints before drybrushing it up. The FDM printer did add some texture, but I used stippled modgepodge to give the metal doors and windows a smooth alibet beaten metal texture. I glazed contrast paints for the windows and electronic light areas.

This is a kiosk eatery with a rooftop perfect for weapon teams and snipers.

I used the same paints and colors for this structure as well.

The sign is much more vibrant and glowy without a washed out photo!

I made many prints of buildings for battletech since all I have is a mat.
This is an office building and only dwarfed by the apt building I printed.

It took 18 hours to print and another couple to free from supports and sand it smooth

I painted the walls a tan color then kept adding white to the mix until it's final sponge coat of pure white. The windows were cloudburst blue contrast paint then stippled with turquois and light blues until it looked okay. So about 20 hours in printing and another 8 hours in painting. I could knock out a big structure in a weekend. I figure a couple months and with the office and apt building i will have a big metro to funnel mechs in.

I did not get the barriers from legion done yet as I am going to try "chipping" them with a sponge, but they do make good fences for the house and kiosk.
I think I spent about 8 hours on each of the buildings, but it was interrupted by infantry because I dislike painting terrain and vicks! I only counted the hours for the office building because all the other terrain bits for battletech I printed are 1 to 2 stories. two big blocks look odd with the smaller buildings.

---------------------

Hi David, there are some great little buildings, well done on them they look awesome.  I love all the tone and shade differences you got on them and I am sure they will look stunning on the table top.

As for points, I am going with 40 points for the 3 of them as they appear to be just slightly bigger and more complicated than several others that I have awarded 10 points per to, but not the same as many that I have given 15 to.

I love the effects you got on them, keep more coming!

PeterA: 15mm Moderns and 28mm Federales (61 points)

 Hello all.

This week I have indulged my painting butterfly (again). Myminifactory have a sale on at the moment to celebrate their acquisition of Thingiverse, and so I snapped up several files from WarDaddy Studios. I got some of their modern Russian and NATO stuff, and first off the paint bench are a squad of 9 NATO infantry. The tenth soldier lost his gun when removing the printing supports, so I will just use him as a medic.

Although intended for more temperate climes, I fancied doing a winter theme, and I thought the chunky design of the figures leant themselves to bulky winter clothing. So I painted their jackets and FAST helmets white and lightly washed them with GW Apothecary White. Some had some sort of scrim modelled on their helmets, so I added some spots of AK Dark Green as camo. They have lots of pouches, a radio, rucksacks etc, which I painted AK Denison Tan, washed with Sonic Hedgehog's 'Marine Juice' recipe and highlighted in Denison Tan again.

Trousers were Vallejo Afrika Korps Uniform (MTP camo in 15mm is beyond me), washed as above. I looked at quite a few photos online of NATO troops exercising in Norway and they often showed troops wearing white jackets and green trousers or vice versa, so I went with this half and half approach with these figures.

1st Fire Team

2nd Fire Team

2nd Fire Team plus Squad Leader and Medic

Obviously, these guys will need an opponent. I am a fan of the Twilight 2000 RPG, so I imagine these NATO figures will be the remnants left fighting in the Nordic countries to repel the Soviet invader as part of Operation RESET. I got some WarDaddy Russians which I have started painting, but I wanted to see how some BF plastics I already have would match up. So I assembled a T72B and BMP2 from their Team Yankee range.

The kits go together very easily and match the WarDaddy figures nicely. I painted them in AK Dark Green Grey, then gave them an oil wash with thinned Windsor and Newton Black. After letting it dry for about 10 minutes I used a cotton bud (well several cotton buds!) to remove the excess and then drybrushed with the original basecoat. I wanted them to be quite heavily weathered, so I dabbed on GW Valhallan Blizzard effect paint on the T72 but it looked awful, so I didn't repeat this on the BMP2. Instead, I gave both a heavy drybrush of Pro Acryl White.

Finally, I printed out a police truck for my cartel project. This is from Turnbase Miniatures and is the personnel carrier version. There were supposed to be two passengers, but the print failed so there is only one. I'll print a companion when I print the LMG version of the truck.

It was a very simple paintjob - basecoat of Vallejo Game Colour Imperial Blue, washed in Marine Juice and given a coat of AK Satin Varnish. Windows are just a couple of coats of GW Abaddon Black contrast paint, which I also used on the 'cage' in the truck bed, mostly just for a bit of contrast. Finally it was given a light drybrush of Vallejo Iraqi Sand to reflect the fact it will be operating in a pretty dusty environment. The passenger's uniform is Army Painter Tyrion Navy over a grey undercoat, the intention being to have a dark uniform with a blue tone, but it was a bit too dark, so I gave it a highlight of Army Painter Night Sky. His body armour, pads and helmet are all Army Painter Occultist Cloak speedpaint.

So, 10x 15mm figures = 20 points, 1x 28mm figure = 5 points, 2x 15mm vehicles = 16 points and 1x 28mm vehicle = 20 points, for a total of 61 points.

From DaveD . I do like the cartel truck here . Suitably narco . Sometimes of course you just have to feed the butterfly . Those T72 and BMP2 remind me I need to bump my own up the queue . Good job - 61 it is .
