From NickJ - Skaven Plague Monks 100 Points

Once upon a Squeak...

Phew. Made the cut. I was getting concerned back there as I decided to start this journey with a unit of 20 models and time is marching on. Really must start smaller next year as I'm not a speed painter...

Games Workshop's Age of Sigmar (AoS) is the current flavour in our gaming group and even though I've never been a big fantasy player I've found myself drawn in by the incredibly infectious enthusiasm of the group!

And apologies for the picture quality - a lightbox is on the way ready for next Monday!

Let me introduce you to the first unit in my Grand Alliance: Chaos army. This, by way of introduction, is a Skaven Plague Monks unit from Clan Pestilens. I recommend NOT shaking them by the hand (paw?).

20 Rats strong and full of the joys of various diseases, ailments and illnesses that make a hypochondriac look positively full of the joys of spring.

I opted for a muted colour scheme of purples and greys. The blades are covered in gunk that is not particularly healthy so I used some of Citadel's new technical paints to give them a rough look.

My Chaos army is The Cult of the Pentagram and will feature units from 5 different Chaos factions. Whilst the different factions will be painted differently expect the banners to all be red across the whole Cult and for the basing to be the same. I might even paint some pentagrams once I've taught myself how to!!

This variety of races is perfect for my hobby butterfly approach to building and painting.

Next up: Daemons. Hopefully. Maybe. Well quite possibly something else.

NickJ

MilesR: Nick these are really nice Skaven.  The texture on the swords is really well done.  I wouldn't worry too much about your hobby butterfly approach - more than a few of your fellow challengers have the same affliction.

I haven't tried Age of Sigmar - how do you find the rules?

  7. Thanks for the lovely comments everyone. It's great to be here and I'm getting painting done! Hurrah.

Miles - only played a few games of AoS but so far I'm enjoying the simpleness of it all. Yes it is "breakable" but with a small bit of self policing in the group you can work around that.

It looks like I will be facing some rather lovely Dark Elf Executioners (JamieM) in the near future so more to come!

  13. I agree with Peter, scuzzy in a good way. I showed these pictures to Luigi, the Catbeast of Mordor, and he is still hiding under the couch!

    1. Thanks Michael. I hope Luigi recovers soon. How does he feel about Bloodletters as they are probably next?

    2. Luigi has never met a Bloodletter ... his little brother Topper would probably want to play with them.
