From SanderS - More Heroquest stuff (25 Points)

Hoi!

As the title says, here's the latest batch of figures for use with  our Heroquest games. At the moment I am mostly playing Dungeon Master both at home with my eldest son Arthur as at school with the club. In the future I hope to be able to get some time in as adventurer as well and so I have created my own character.

There's loads of fan-made stuff online and so I found a character card for a "royal guardsman" which is a basic fighter with none too shabby stats and that's what I am going to use for Cesare.

He's basically from the defunct WFB Dogs of War Tillean pikemen unit, I have forgotten the name of. I liked the pose but since it came out of a bitsbox it was missing weapons and such so I glued on an excess Brettonian sword and an Empire shield. I also glued on a Dwarf medallion on his chest and I am thinking hard on how this fits in with his background.

Also from the WFB Dogs of War range are these 3 henchmen for Cesare, all from "Pizarro's Lost Legion". The weapons are all plastic from the latest Empire Militia and Frostgrave range. There are a spear-man, scout (with sword and buckler)  and crossbowman.

As one travels through the Dungeons, one is sure to meet all kinds of goblinness. Therefore I managed to pick this old school Squighunter from Ebay and I will gladly use it to scare the kids at school when it comes bounding down the passages.

Last up is a bit of a special figure because I did not paint it myself, Arthur did. When we had the huge privilege of meeting the Snowlord in person at the Crisis convention in Antwerp last year, he asked Curt whether he could paint some stuff for the Challenge as well. Curt said he could and here is his first Challenge figure called: "Bob". Bob is a henchman accompanying Arthur's Fire Wizard Lodjar as he travels the Dungeons with his two other henchmen, the aptly called bowmen "Helmet"and "Hat". Yeah kids are like that I suppose.

That leaves me with 5 figures in 28mm thus scoring 25 points and Bob.

Cheers Sander

Our Dutch father and son duo strikes early and on the mark. Terrific work you two! What a terrific set of figures. That kit-mod of the Tillean pikeman is brilliant Sander. His filigreed armour is very sharp and his helmet turban is a fantastic bit of brushwork.

I have fond memories of the Dogs of War as it was a list that Greg was playing when I first met him at a local tournament. Back in the 4th edition days pike units were incredibly tough and I remember that all of the whacky special rules that DoW had made their opponents absolutely nuts. All in all a good army for Greg.

Arthur, I think Bob is excellent. Even though he has a rather evasive sounding name, his red striped spear looks fearsome and his yellow hose cuts quite the dash. I think we need to see 'Helmet & Hat' before the Challenge is finished. With those names I think you have a epic tale of fantasy in the making. :)

I'll get Miles to put in a place for Arthur in the roster. So 25 points for you Sander, and 5 for Arthur. Well done lads!

  2. Quality stuff! Very nice work on your figures, but I'm afraid they're outshone by the work of your son with the natty yellow leggings ;)

  4. Excellent work. These spearmens from WFB - Pirazzo's lost legion. You are lucky to be the owner of very rare miniatures.

    2. No worries, she will for sure! The most important thing to remember if you want to get them paintingis not to pressure them into it but just show them how much you're having. Oh and get them playing Heroquest so they want their own character to play with;-)

  7. Great work guys - seeing that old Dogs of War casting almost brings a tear to my eye...man I miss those guys, they were great, and bring me back to the time before Warhammer Fantasy was ruined utterly...

Anyway, enough of that - excellent brush work both of you!

  9. Great work Sander and Aurthur. I tend towards fending GW stuff off with a 16 foot sarissa but did like the looks of the DoW figures.
Welcome to the Challenge Aurthur - you've got a great brush hand there.

  12. Well done Arthur!
I should like to see Arthur paint a Warrior Princess or Sorceress to "assist" Bob, Hemet and Hat along with their dungeon adventures. I think those boys may need a lady's influence :)

    1. Oh dear lady, I've just read your response to Arthur and he gave the typical 6 year old boy's reaction: "NO way am I going to paint a GIRL!!! Lol! But I wil see whatI can do ;-)

  13. I really like the conversion of the Republican Guard, Sander! He does look striking in the armor and colors and does look every inch a tough Royal Guardsman!
Congrats to Arthur too, as he must closely be following in his dad's footsteps! He is even brave enough to paint yellow britches and they came out quite well too! ;)
