Hello All,
For my first foray into this noble challenge, I've mostly chosen to burn through my collection of 1/56 WW2 vehicles...and in order to give myself a relatively gentle start, I've gone for some of my late-war Brits' recce assets.
In this first tranche, please find below the following (in order):
- Daimler Armoured Car (Inns of Court),
- Humber Armoured Car Mk IV (Inns of Court - I may in future attempt the 'sawn-off' version!),
- Humber Scout Car (from 3RTR), and
- two Recce Jeeps from my Airborne forces. These were easier to paint, but the annoying para smocks more than made up for that!
Humber Scout:
Thanks Chris - a nice work on your vehicles. As a reminder to all, kindly please note your name - with the first initial of your last name - as not all of us are familiar with your aliases :)
ReplyDeleteThanks (on both counts!) Greg. Wilco.
ReplyDeleteI had to look up 'Inns of Court', as I'm not familiar with the name in a military context. Amazing story behind that regiment!
ReplyDelete(Lovely vehicles too, by the way!)
lovely stuff
ReplyDeleteThanks, Gents!
ReplyDeleteAlways love to see Reece stuff. I also had to google Inns Of Court and second what Ev Said. I had assumed it was a manufacturer that I hadn’t heard of.
ReplyDeleteNice paintwork too.
Great collection of Recce vehicles. I like the oil and grime: not overdone, just perfect.
ReplyDeleteLooks great ... Cheers Jez
ReplyDeleteVery nice Chris - nice to see you in the challenge. I'm still using your painting planner idea for tracking my progress! Cheers, James (themadtinhatter)
ReplyDeleteThanks, Chaps.
ReplyDeleteJames! How delightful that is to hear! After fathering two lovely children and being a teacher for 16 years, I still reckon the painting chart might actually be my most useful contribution to the world... ;)
Splendid looking armoured cars and jeeps!
ReplyDeleteBest Iain
They all look pretty cool Chris.
ReplyDeleteNice work Chris.
ReplyDeleteJust as a quick historical note, 1st Airborne Recce's jeeps had single Vickers K guns (not twin mounts) and I believe 6th Airborne Armoured Recce's jeeps had .30 Browning MGs, probably single mounts. They also had the spare wheel mounted at the front in front of the radiator grille.
As far as I am aware, the only unit which had twin-mounts of the K gun was the SAS (who did wear the same maroon beret).
Aha! Thank you for the note! Oopsie.
ReplyDeleteMy main Airborne force is 21st Independent Coy (no vehicles!), so when I picked these up cheaply I figured I could just use them as more generic Airborne for more generic pick-up games (generically-speaking) and going by Bolt Action lists they can upgrade.
So...
...er...
...rule of cool, I guess?!
*Chris whimpers, averts his eyes and backs slowly out of sight*
Bolt Action lists allowing Airborne to upgrade to twin-Vickers jeeps? Well, you can't expect too much historical accuracy from Warlord now, can you? *lol*
Delete(that being said, their own Recce jeep is single-Vickers)
After the 1st Recce's experience in Italy, Freddie Gough had asked for (and been granted) permission to have his jeeps armed with two MGs. The problem was that the additional ammunition for the second gun would have made them overweight for the Horsa gliders, so they settled for a single Vickers K gun (plus the Bren which each jeep of the Recce troops would have).
Got to love Bolty-gloss, right?! Thank you for the detail: because of it, I may just go back to them at some point in the future and re-engineer them.
DeleteSigh(!)
Nice work Chris. I did a version of my recce earlier. I want to have a go at TFL bridge scout scenario from Lard Mag 2019 when the plague lifts. Again great work. BruceR.
ReplyDeleteAwesome choice! And thanks.
DeleteI'd like to do a little more CoC, but no-one round here tends to. Which is also fine - especially at the moment as I'm soooooo game-deprived!
Great looking recce vehicles. Well done.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Stuart!
DeleteMarkings, weathering, berets, stowage, aerials... it's all great!
ReplyDeleteCheers, Barks :)
DeleteCheers!
ReplyDeleteWelcome to the Challenge Chris, great first entry, looking forward to more.
ReplyDeleteRegards KenR
Thanks, Ken!
