From MattW: Hairy Germanics (255 points)

After 80 days on Holiday in Australia in the sun I have returned to France and based up some of the figures I completed whilst being away. I had a small shopping spree at Cancon Australias largest Wargames convention around 25 thousand people over 4 days playing tabletop games plus general public. It was great to catch up with a few of the mates, look at some great looking tables and games and help my unpainted pile grow a little where I clocked the business class baggage allowance by

2kg…..!

AHPC Aussie “bad batch” with my first purchase French guard cavalry

I brought these Germanics with me on holidays in Oz, where they travelled the east coast for 1300klm, every  now and then I managed to get quite a few painted when there was wet weather or we were not visiting friends. I failed in my planning bring enough transfers to complete all of the painted ones. So now ordered and hopefully they will arrive some time this week.

The figures are a mix of Warlord Germanics, Foundry Germanics and some hand painted and decal shields.

"80 days on Holiday..." - that's not a holiday mate, that's temporary retirement. But good on you for taking some painting along to help fill in the time. Great looking models here Matt, as you know I have a certain affinity for hairy German tribesmen having painted a bunch for this Challenge myself. Yours look great - it's always a challenge with warbands to maintain some individuality to the models while keeping cohesion in the "look" - and you've done a great job at that. I also like your idea with the wicker shields and the runic insignia, they look super too. Makes me want to get back at my own tribesmen!

255 points for you!

Hey there Challengers. Thought I'd mix up the cat pics a bit. Instead of a pic of a grey cat you get a pic of a grey tabby cat. Nothing here if not variety.

Anyway there's a real delectation of painting for you here today. We've got:

  • MattW presenting a minoxidil substitute!
  • DennisC providing Prussian precision!
  • KyleC caring not from where the blood flows!
  • ChrisW posting some fab fantasy figures, expanding the motor pool, getting Victorian and smelling the potpourri!
  • SylvainR presenting trays 'n' bones!
  • PaulSS lowering the boom!
  • AaronH legioning!
Have a great weekend everybody!

From TomL: True Crime for 70 points

Guiding us to the True Crime stacks of the library via the cart is The Duchess - a woman who knows her way around the underside of the city.  Duchess is from Crooked Dice Miniatures and was painted using Foundry and Two Thin Coat paints.

These boys are experts at robbery, smash and grab and general violence.  The "Criminal Firm" set is also from Crooked Dice Miniatures and was painted using Foundry and Two Thin Coat acrylics.

Points: 70.

Library Cart = 20
True Crimes section = 20

From Millsy: I really like "The Firm" Tom, especially the faded denim effect you have achieved on their jeans. I certainly wouldn't want them muscling in on my turf! I can't be sure from the photo but it looks like you have done a faded effect on the hair of the duchess which is pretty cool if that's correct. Nice work all around.

From Kerry T- Clippety clop, more hooves and arrows (300 points)

Morning, afternoon & evening all

One of my AHPC goals this year was to paint some horseflesh and thankfully I've managed to do his in the past week. In the next few weeks I hope to knock off a few more units for my Italian wars project

First up though, more Welsh, this time some archers. Finishing these meant that I had painted all of my Welsh figures from Footsore. That sounds great, but as we all know no army is really ever finished and thus some more unpainted figures arrived in the post this week. I see myself using these in skirmish type Lion Rampant/ Baron's war games against Normans and Saxons I think. I figured these should be painted in muted colours

Footsore Miniatures later Medieval Welsh

Not running away, just going to the woods to cut more sticks for arrows

The bulk of the army was painted during the challenge, but here is the complete force (not faction!) including the cavalry, all but four of which were painted up before the challenge

Next up more Perry Plastics, again from the Light cavalry 1450 - 1500 box but this time made up as mounted longbowmen

This box allows so much versatility

I'm not really sure what I'm going to do with these but I think I'll definitely use them for 100YW Welsh bowmen, so I set out to paint them in the green of Cheshire but at a push I wonder if I can get away with using them as Mounted Italian Longbowmen for the early Italian Wars

As you can see I didn't quite press hard enough when gluing the horse halves together!

Finally my third unit - some heavies for the Italian wars

Casting Room Miniatures

Now these are proper heavy cavalry, they really do have some serious heft, I don't think I've ever come across figures that weigh as much as this!

The poses are limited but turn out ok

On the website they are listed as Gendarmes but I figure they aren't flashy or dandy enough to be French Gendarmes so have kept the painting simple with horse armour mainly in metal and no Barber pole lances. This will also make it easier to distinguish them from the French on the table

A Perry miniature s flag depicting an Imperialist unit

These were surprisingly quick to paint given the simplicity of the paint job so perhaps I'll manage a few more before the end of the challenge.

Regrettably no time to get bonus figures painted up this week, maybe next week

In summary

12 x 28mm Welsh foot archers @ 5 points = 60 points

12 x 28mm Mounted Longbowmen @ 10 points = 120 points

12 x 28mm Heavy cavalry @ 10 points = 120 points

Total 300 points

(Millsy check my maths please if I make another mistake I'll never live it down!)

2 Squirrels

Thanks or looking, see you next week I hope

From Millsy: Another absolutely wonderful submission Kerry, which is only improved by the quality of your table and photography. I really like your choice of colours for the horse furniture and barding which I'm often tempted to scoot over myself. Your math looks good to me so that's another 300 points for your total mate. Smashing brushwork!

From KentG: 28mm Confederate cavalry & Samurai (points 125)

Here is my second submission for the week
I took the day off on Tuesday and thought I'd get a mass of figures done
but by the end of the day, started at 8.30am finish at 11pm
I had only completed these 10 cavalry and 5 Samurai other than the command
figure for the ACW which is a Perry command pack figure
I do not know who makes the rest

they are really well sculpted minis and were a pleasure to paint,
maybe that's why I spent way to long on them

I've always stared away from Samurai but these Perry minis were
an enjoyable paint maybe because they weren't in there amour.

I painted them for the customer as they looked on the website
I have one more to complete

                    10 x 28mm confederate cavalry @ 10pts = 100

From Millsy: I find it quite remarkable how you can paint for so long without letting your levels drop Kent. These are really well done, especially the patterned fabrics on the Samurai. What happened to the last guy?
