From JamesM - 15mm scale WW2 limbered A/T guns, Recovery Truck and Ships Crew (62 points)

Hi folks,

Another hectic week on the challenge, with a bit of a mixed batch of stuff (all 15mm).

First up, some limbered 6 Pdr Anti Tank guns for my Normandy Brits (and a Gunuary 2019 unit!) - the guns themselves are the painted bits, the Loyd Carriers are just there for show! Incidentally, the Loyd carriers were some of the earliest 15mm vehicles I painted, and they are showing their age!

These are Skytrex gun models, and mirror the battery of 17 Pdrs I finished for the challenge 2 years ago. They'll get some use on the table as we tend to have big tables and these guns have a range of only 24". As part of the infantry battalion's integral A/T platoon, they tend to go forward to cover the advance and secure captures ground.

I am also updating the highlighting and basing of the deployed version of these guns, but as this is remedial work rather than new work, I won't be claiming points!

Next up, a vehicle conversion. I ended up with a spare hull for a Morris Bofors Tractor, and converted it into a Morris Commercial CDSW Light Recovery Vehicle. Some of these should have still been about by 1944, and I like how it looks - I may paint up a small LAD (Light Aid Detachment - REME units attached to combat formations for on the spot repairs and recovery) unit for my Brits based on this.

Conversion includes the rolled back roof (paperclip frame), rear deck details and of course the jib for the recovery winch (along with some spare wheels, toolboxes and jerry cans). Correct decal colours need to be painted on for a REME unit, but the vehicle is done painting wise, so I'm counting it!

Lastly, some converted crew for my 15mm LCT:

I'm pretty proud of these. They are all Battlefront figures, and all British Royal Artillery/AA gun crew. I chopped off excess pouches and canteens, green stuffed on anti flash hoods and gloves, then painted appropriately (hopefully!).

The two officers were Royal Artillery staff team/command team figures with similar knife work conversions, and some green stuff which included an attempt to model a shirt and tie! Spot the sub LT with the beard, in honour of PaulOG! Officers uniforms are slightly non-regular as they are Royal Navy Volunteer Reserve, but hopefully they give a decent impression. I did try to get the arm lace correct for the ranks.

So that should be:

1 x 15mm vehicle = 8 points
6 x 15mm Gun = 24 points
8 x 15mm Navy Crew = 16 points
2 x 15mm Vehicle crew = 4 points

Total: 52 points

(the other crew figures I painted this week will be included in other entries)

Wonderful work on these. I'm a sucker for artillery /AT guns and these look excellent. I can't wrap my head around the concept that these only have a 24" range. It  just doesn't sit well with me... which is why I used the FOW rules with 6mm figures instead. And the Naval crew are excellent too. Your use of a scalpel and greenstuff is inspired!

So points wise your bang on with the 52 for figures and vehicles but I'm throwing in some bonuses for the excellent conversion work. 2 for all the work on the truck and a point each for the navy crewmen bringing you up to 62 points for this entry.

From FranL - 15mm Sci-Fi Paramilitary Police (146 Points)

.....and Medical Support!

These are from Alternative Armies with some GZG vehicles, the police figures are resin and not a bad sculpt, the medical crew are meant to be synthetics and are some awful sculpts but with a medical cross on their backs and bags (I thought they were okay by the pictures.......sigh........but they'll do).

This is your contracted protection for that backwater planet but with valuable resources, the G4S of the future!

Headquarters vehicle with robotic land sharks......

Medical teams......

Protesters or zombies?

Aircars.

Bikers.........

The boys and girls of Backwater Security Services.....

Even attempted a head swap....

5 vehicles and 51 figures inclusive of figures, bikes, bodybags and cybermastiffs!

More near future madness. Is it too early to deploy these guys in Post-Brexit Britain? (too political ??) A great mix of stuff as always. I'm treating the bikes as cavalry/mounted so 4pts apiece which is the same as the bike and dismounted rider at 2pts each (call me anal but I like the points in the correct column on the scores spreadsheet!!). I'm throwing in a couple of bonus points for the larger vehicles (cos its big of course) and another couple for the madness of attempting a head conversion!! So that brings you up to a very respectable 146 points for this entry. Well done Fran.

From TamsinP - 15mm Ming Chinese Arquebusiers (74 points)

According to Judge Lee, you have been good boys and girls.  And so you get rewarded with some more 15mm goodness from me.

Over late 2017/early 2018 I was painting up a reasonably-sized Ming Chinese army for us with FoGAm/FoGR and Art de la Guerre.  However, it was lacking two things - firearms troops and artillery.  I didn't like the handgunners from Old Glory 15s (they were very early types) so I eventually ordered some of the Grumpy Miniature ones from Eureka, which I collected at Salute in April. I also ordered some of their rocket launcher troops, which will serve as light artillery and regimental gun markers.

After finishing the SYW Russians I wanted something quick to submit as an extra this week and settled on these arquebusiers. These give me two units for FoGAM/FoGR or six units for ADLG.

The officers, trumpeters and spear/halberd troops are Old Glory 15s and slightly bigger than the chubby-cheeked Grumpy ones.

For scoring:
36 x 15mm foot = 72 points

Next week you can expect more 15mm goodness from the Orient, regardless of your behaviour.

"Please ma'am, can we have some more"... and so it came to pass. Wonderful work Tamsin. I really liked your Ming Chinese army, mostly because you always do such a good job with the painting and basing, but also because it not the sort of army you see every day. This lot will add some much needed boom to your army! I'm throwing in a couple of extra points for the shields bringing this up to 74 points well earned.

From KenR - 28mm Italian Wars Mounted Crossbow (60 Points)

Another little mini entry this week to keep the scoreboard ticking over whilst the Papal Pike Block grows off screen, a unit I hope to have done next week.

A little bit more subtle this week after the glorious colour and excitement of last weeks Gendarme we have a unit with a bit less glamour, a unit of 28mm Mounted Crossbow.

6 figures again, these are Perry's Miniatures but rather than coming from the plastic box set these are metal figures on plastic horses (which are bought separately). So that's 6 x 28mm Cavalry at 10 pts a piece for a comfortable 60 points.

Pretty pleased I have been keeping to my one unit of Cavalry per week as it's keeping my total moving, next week I have the next unit of Gendarme lined up it won't be long before some Italian Wars gaming can commence.

Once again a lovely unit of mounted troops. I'm going to show my ignorance of the period now... so I assume these guys dismounted to shoot, because I'd imagine reloading a crossbow from the saddle would be more than a bit tricky? Very nice work of these by the way. Its nice that they are all unique individuals but the colour palette brings them all together and makes them feel like a cohesive unit. A nice solid 60 points will indeed keep the points ticking over.

I'm look forward to seeing all your Italian Wars stuff in a group shot at some point (hint hint).

From RayR - WSS 22nd foot (247 points)

I've been painting like a demon the last couple of weeks, 10 minutes here and 10 minutes there. And I've got this lot done, If only I could paint mine as quick!! Theses are once again for his nibs next door, von Postie, the evil one. He has a Pirate collection that he bought from Reject Fran before he buggered off back to Ireland. Postie wanted some Government troops to add to the collection. I chose the 22nd foot circa 1708 for him, as they were stationed in the West Indies at the time.

8 x Muskettmen

8 x Musketmen, 1 x Leader and 1 x Drummer

8 x Musketmen, 1 x General, 1 x Drummer, 1 x Standard bearer and handpainted St Georges flag. Which was actually and old French flag painted over. I wanted to paint the cantons yellow, but Postie wouldn't let me!!!

Another 8 x Musketmen

The rest of the 7 Officers, including the blue coated Guvvnor himself

The mounted Guvvnor and his bodyguard

So all in all we have 43 foot and 3 mounted. Which should give me a total of 245 points! I wasn't going to base these, Postie was going to do it himself, but after working out what I'd loose points wise I based them up for him for free!!! For Free!!!  So its 245 points plus anything luvvly Lee wants to give me for the flag, the basing and for being a thoroughly nice chap. ;0)

Lee, just remember the last 3 games we played together that upped your winning streak for 2018!
Just who was it that was on your side those 3 games, yes me!  [I carried you. L]

Could these points please be added to my Black Powder duel pleeeze?

Much as it kills me to say it, these are wonderfully painted ol'chap. Personally I'm glad your painting these for von Postie as there's a high probability they will actually see the light of day and be played with... what was the last game you put on??

I was going to be generous with the bonus points but that dig at my (admittedly poor) tactical skills means I'll only be throwing a couple of points your way for the flag... :-)
