From AnneO - Steve, Man or Myth? (8 Points)

This was to be my entry for the Myth Theme Bonus Round.  Although I finished painting him a full week before the deadline, I forgot to photograph him. In retrospect, that may have been a good thing as this is quite silly.

Meet Steve, a creature of Myth

Steve is a strong, handsome man with a sensitive side. He's as handy with a Hoover as he is with a Glock.  He enjoys long walks on the beach as much as he enjoys gathering intel in field.

Trained in rapid response techniques, Steve can answer question like "Does this dress make me look fat?" or "Who is your leader?" with ease under extreme pressure. Not only will Steve listen to an enemy combatant talk under torture, he will listen to a woman talk about her feelings for hours.

Does this mythological creature really exist?  I don't know, but if you come across him, will you give him my number?

Steve is from Hasslefree Miniatures, stands at 25mm and was sculpted by Kev White.  Curt will only give him five points, but if this thing was being run by a woman, Steve here would be worth a whole lot more than that.

From Curt:

Excellent work Anne.

Ah yes, the eternal question: Is 5 points really enough to please a woman  Anne, just to complete the fantasy I'll nuge Steve up to more <ahem> robust 8 points.   ;->

  1. The first one to comment, I think!
Fantastic work, Anne. Your choice of colours is perfect because it is possible to apreciate the tact/relief of the clothes and bag (this is easier to explain in Spanish!). Really warm and with a base I like a lot.

  2. Lovely figure Anne! But don't most myths have some basis in reality? ;)

  3. Haha, very good all round. This unicorn-like creature brought much merriment.

You know, a credit of mine is convinced that seahorses are mythical, like unicorns. So sometimes, myths are real after all.

    1. If he's the last one on the planet, I hope he breeds sons that are just like him.

  4. Nice work Anne, but good luck finding someone like that :)

  5. Men like this do exist but women don't fancy them. They live at home with their mothers. They have sad geeky hobbies like train spotting not kick ass hobbies like ours. Still 8 points gets Curt half way round you finger

  6. Gorgeous painting Anne. Absolutely first rate. Love the highlights on both the hunting jacket and the rest of his attire. Great shades too. Brill stuff :-)

  7. Well modesty forbids I say too much. And to be honest when you started prattling on about feelings I switched off!

He looks very good though and the blending and colours are tip top.

  11. Amazing painting. Really amazing! Indeed this fella is a mythical legend. I once heard he can catch a fish, gut it, cook it and do the dishes and clean up all in the same day! Myth indeed. Cheers and thanks for the fun.

  13. Not sure what I appreciated more, the brushwork or the damn good laugh. Both were well worth the visit.

    1. This is the kind of thing that comes to me late at night when I can't fall asleep. I live in quite a fantasy world.

  15. Thank you for the extra points Curt! You're a real doll!

  16. Anne - superb painting of something that a neanderthal such as myself can not even comprehend. I suppose this "Steve" would actually go to the ballet without whining - impossible stuff.

Curt - I'd be happy to call you a doll or maybe even sweetie for extra points - 'just saying the offer is out there...

    1. I don't think Steve would go to the ballet or to the opera for that matter. Nor would he eat quiche. Underneath all that sensitivity still beats the heart of a manly man.

  17. Very nice figure, superbly painted ( as usual :) ) + fine humour & mythological allusions... the ideal post! :D Cheers!

  18. Perhaps a stretch for the myth round, but there have been precedents. It is a really fantastic figure, I particularly like his face.

    1. It woul have been a stretch and that's one of the reasons I think it's just as well that I forgot to photograph him. In the end it's more fun as a single funny post.

    1. I'm working on that now. I've these outrageous dancing Pygmies wearing overly large tiki masks. I just hope I remember to take pics of them.

  20. It's tough to make earth tones look bright and engaging and still be able to call them earth tones, but by gum you've done it here!

Also, am I the only one getting a serious Hunter S. Thompson vibe off this figure? All he needs is a cigarette-holder clamped in his teeth. You certainly could've entered him in the Myth round under those precepts, since the man is pretty much of a post-modern American mythological figure at this point. :)

  21. Fantastic work with the light on this! And yes I see the Thompson thing too David.

  22. Great choice of subject Anne! Though I must say that it is so ridiculously impossible for something like that to exist that even ancient storytellers could not thought of that up. So more mythical than myth?

Still great work on the paintjob! Too bad you forgot to take pics in time. Would have been one of the top entries from that themed challenge.

  23. I'm your man Anne, well I would be if I could fire that Glock ;-)
