Hello everyone!
Happy Holidays and Welcome to the Challenge!
As per tradition, I open the Challenge with our first entry of the season. This year I present to you Simon, Sophie and Anonymous, three hapless, grumpy and now calcified trolls who now provide shade for travellers, corners and crevasses for moss, and a nice place for the birds to nest and tend to their ablutions.
These models are 3d prints from Myminifactory. They turned out a little ropey here and there, but being trolls-turned-to-stone I figure they can be a little rough around the edges.
As their current state is, um, well, stone they were a pretty quick paintjob. A few passes with the airbrush, some drybrushing, washes, LOTS of tufts and BOOM, done.
The first-post hobby flurry was made even better as it was spent with the Antipodean crew who had set up a Paint & Chat to ring-in the Challenge. Thanks guys for keeping me awake as I cracked on with this lot!

Each of these trolls are roughly 54mm in scale, so we'll go with 10 points each, giving me 30 points to break the duck (and a Squirrel Point no less!).
Again, welcome to AHPC XVI. Let the fun begin!

Excellent opening entry Curt. In the Hadley household Christmas officially begins when the Challenge starts! 🤣🎄
ReplyDeleteVery nice work.
ReplyDeleteGreat start of the challenge. These figures remind me on "The Hobbit". 😉
ReplyDeleteI love the trolls caught by morning light....genuinely caught by morning light! ;) they do look perfectly ossified stone in the sculpt too!
ReplyDeleteThanks David. It's a quiet response (caught in the light, so to speak) to some comments left on one of PaulOG's posts on his blog regarding the Challenge.
DeleteAn excellent first post, Curt. The tufts make them feel like they have been there for a while.
ReplyDeleteGreat opening entry Curt! Nice looking minis! I especially like the pose on the one facing up and looking at the first morning light coming!
ReplyDeleteThanks Samuli, he's my favourite of the trio as well. A bit of a rushed job (and it shows), but they'll add some local colour for fantasy table-dressing.
DeleteExcellent kick off Curt. The “stoned” trolls look the part and the tufts, with grass give them the “ I have been here awhile look”. Great start.
ReplyDeleteNice trolls- and great to see you on the chat today!
ReplyDeletevery nice work Curt!
ReplyDeleteWell done!
ReplyDeleteVery nicely done
ReplyDeleteExcellent work on these. The quality of the prints gets lost in your tufts and grasses. They really sell this. Great work. I'll have to track down those files.
ReplyDeleteCheers! Here you go, Aaron: https://www.myminifactory.com/object/3d-print-savage-cave-trolls-camp-for-diorama-purpose-169834

ReplyDeleteGreat entry, loving the plant life on them. And off we go
ReplyDeleteLovely job mate - 'twas lovely to have your company at our paint & chat as we crossed the start line :-)
ReplyDeleteExcellent first shot, as usual by Curt
ReplyDeleteOff to a great start Curt!
ReplyDeleteSome guts to start it off with a troll post. :)
ReplyDeleteLovely trio of garden ornaments, and we're off, what fun!
ReplyDeleteBest Iain
Now that my coffee has hit I am enjoying certain aspects of this post more often. Love that you called out the trolls on Paul’s blog. Love that they’ve been turned to stone. And love that you made sure that there were witnesses given their past troll activities.
ReplyDeleteIts the SAS :-) one should never get in the way of these guys - great first entry Curt, its so good to be back again
