From JonathanO: Assyrian chariot - Oubliette (55 points)

How about some 40 year old miniatures for the Oubliette location?

The 25mm 2 horse ancient Assyrian chariot and supporting infantry are from Lamming miniatures.  I originally bought 3 of these chariots, but they never got painted.  A few years ago I acquired another 5, so I still have a lot to paint.  I had a few extra infantry figures so I included an archer and a spearman to the base to support the chariot.  The base is 120mm x 80mm.

As well as the rest of the chariots, I really need to get some of the cavalry painted.

Points:  For 2 horses, 2 crew plus the chariot, I think 25 points.  Add 10 points for the two infantry,  plus the location bonus of 20 = 55 points.

With 4 location challenges completed on level 2, I can move quickly down to level 3.

From George S - Tomb - ( 20+? points)

Been very busy this last month and I had no time for blogging...Plenty time of painting though...

Last week now and I'm running against the clock. Have some of the last rooms ready and three challenges left to be painted... I thing I will catch up.....

So, a small vignette here for the "Tomb" chamber. A small and forgotten, WW2, US Soldier burial ground. Scratch built in 1:32 scale. Some accessories of a "dead" plastic Airfix soldier used.

So 20 points for me and  (?) for the small terrain item .It has 9 cm diameter, if that helps.

Be soon back with another chamber...

'till then..

Keep Up The Brushes!!

From ScottM: Altar of the Snowlord - Samurai (105 pts)

Our brave adventurer finally reaches the last room of the Chambers of Challenges: the Altar of the Snowlord. Our hero steps into the room and looks over his shoulder and yes, his help has arrived. Into the room stream a contingent of samurai and their ashigaru retainers.

These figures are all 28mm metal. The samurai base and teppo base are all from Kingsford Miniatures. The command base is from Steel Fist Miniatures. I've based these figures up for Impetus. First up is the samurai base.

Next up is the base of Teppo.

And finally is the command base. This figure is Ishida Mitsunari, the loser of the Battle of Skegihara (with his head still attached).

So that should be:
15 - 28mm foot figures = 75 points
1 - 28mm cavalry figure = 10 points
Total = 85 + 20 (Chamber bonus) = 105 points

From RossM - 28mm Norman Crossbow and Caesarian Roman Scorpion. (25 points)

Last month sort of passed by in a flash and here we are a week from the finishing line. So time to get a few more points on the score board.

First up is a single Norman Crossbowman from Gripping Beast. It's the figure on the front near corner that was painted during this challenge, the others were completed at some point throughout 2020.

These are for use as Normans, Christian Spanish troops and mercenaries and possibly even Crusaders from the 1st Crusade.

Next, is a Scorpion from Warlord Games and this will be a part of a Marian/Caesarian Roman army that I have been painting over that last year or so. The figures in the background are a part of this army however, have not been painted as a part of this year's Challenge. More is the pity as the points would be good.

The Scorpion and supporting infantry have all been painted using a block, wash and highlight method of painting. This is my version of speed painting and gives a rewarding finish for the table top. The highlight is normally the same colour as the base allowing the toning wash to do its work.

The pic below has decided to remain at the imported size and won't allow any changes to be made; strange.

So in terms of points I reckon this to worth the following:

1 x 28mm infantryman - 5 points
1 x 28mm artillery piece - 10 points
2 x 28mm crew men for the above - 10 points

Subtotal for the entry is - 25 points

Running total is 112 points from 600 or 18.67% completed so far. There is a lot in the sidelines however, it's going to be tough to complete in the time left to do so.

Stay safe and cheers for now

From DaveD - USMC Vietnam- 320 points target reached !

The brushes have been twirling on the latest left field project which is a foray into 28mm Vietnam . I have completed my Marines. A total of 62 and two 81mm mortars.  They are cracking figures to paint and I have another load of VC and NVA from Gringo40s to completed next .

A friend of mine is bust knocking out terrain bits as well - it’s coming along

This takes me over my challenge target Huzzah!

One last submission to do for this week

BruceR, 28mm Gallic Cavalry, 60 pts,

Here are six cavalry figures I took out of the bin and I've had them for at least 10 years if not longer.  These were purchased with a friend who thought "look these Wargames Factory figures are cheap as chips so lets build X.    I bought 2-3 bags of plastic.   Whatever the plan was it didn't happen.   I freely admit I prefer metal figures.  So now Infamy Infamy has me in "need" of another noble cavalry unit.

Now I have painted far more than I thought I would entering the Challenge.  Covid, empty nester, no travel may have been a catalyst.  I'm fearful of next years need to estimate a goal.
I did prime a number of figures ahead of time and this is the last batch of primed prior to the Challenge.  I did get the urge for other periods and got sidetracked and painted out of line.

These figures did not have shields in the bag I found them in, as I had obviously used them somewhere else.  So I found some shields and transfers around the cave and behold Gallic Nobles.  I realize the shields might be more for foot, yet my theory is any shield is a good shield if somebody is trying to kill you.
The transfers are LBM and the shields are metal, I think were extra from Warlord blisters.  Now the figures are not great.  Early plastic and not much character.  Plus gluing heads, arms, weapons, just makes me shudder.  To each his own.

Infamy Gallic Noble Cavalry

Stay safe.

6 28mm mounted 60 pts.

For Peter: The Altar of the SnowLord

Altar of the SnowLord (brought to you by the kids of Kinsmen Park South)

Congratulations Peter on making your way down to the SnowLord's Altar!

You recently ran a great little RPG adventure set in the age of Beowulf, and I know that you sourced a few 3D prints depicting characters from the scenario. So let's see a couple of those painted up in anticipation of future sagas. Once done, you can claim your prize.

Petes' Prize: Iain's brilliant Italian Wars Landsknecht Commander

From GuyB: [The Larder] Be our guest, be our guest! [30 points]

I must admit I was stuck for a good idea of what to do with the Larder challenge. That is until I found these two waiters (sorry, garçons) in my Cthulhu collection.

The models are two butlers from the Civilians and Townsfolk range from Black Cat Bases. The models come with 'slotta' bases - but as I can't stand 'pedestal' bases, I cut them down and mounted them on plastic bases (Warlord 20mm square ones as they were thicker and I didn't have any MDF ones to hand).

So I will use these in several settings. For Cthulhu, naturally and perhaps as bystanders for WW2 games. (I make it 10 points for the two gents and 20 points bonus, altho they might be worth a few more points for being French garçons?).

From LeeH - Level three Teleport - Aurelia the Oracle

As I enter the final week of the Painting Challenge I am already in a reflective mood. I painted all the stuff I needed to get done and hit my target with room to spare, so in that respect mission accomplished. My final points tally isn't going to catapult me into the glitterati of the top ten, but I'm still happy with what I have got done. But there is a fly in the ointment. I was determined to get the whole of the Chambers of Challenge completed and had the final few rooms mapped out and was confident I could breeze through the last level easily. However, Royal Mail apparently has other plans for me.

I needed a model for the Laboratory so I ordered a set of 28mm figures in line with that theme, with plenty of time for them to arrive. Nearly three weeks after receiving a 'dispatched' email no parcel had arrived. The retailer has kindly dispatched a replacement parcel but again two weeks have passed and I'm still waiting for the figures to arrive. Clearly, someone in my local post office has either decided not to deliver the post, or they want to keep the figures for themselves! To be fair, ALL my mail is arriving late (not just parcels) and its been like this for a couple of months. So my carefully laid plans for the final rooms of the Chambers are in disarray and its time for plan B.

Rather than sit around not getting anything painted I decided to skip ahead and paint some of the later rooms and then post them when my Laboratory figures arrive, but with just a week to go and my faith that they will arrive at all dwindling, I've decided to take a different route to the end. Hense today's entry, my female figure is an offering to the witch of this level so that I can bypass the laboratory and teleport straight to The Snowlords Treasury (which I'll post here tomorrow). This 28mm figure is from Bad Squiddo Games and was beautifully sculpted by Shane Hoyle. Once again I'm painting this figure (indeed most of my entries to the Chambers) for my Frostgrave games hence the wintery base.

If my Laboratory figures turn up in the next couple of days I'll backtrack and then use another teleport to get back to the Lair of the Spider. But if they are still not here by mid-week I'll use my teleport to take me to the Hall of Heroes before heading to the last room. I'm probably running out of time to complete the Snowlords final challenge, but I've warned the family that I'm hunkering down for a final burst of painting next weekend. Wish me luck!

(Scoring: 1x28mm Figure + Sarahs Bonus = 25 Points)
