From RoyW - 10mm Mounted Knights (4 Points)

If this post featured on any other form of social media it would be tagged like so; #NotAPointsBomb

Hello everyone ;)

May I present to you two 10mm Pendraken Miniatures mounted knights.

The bases are plastic 20mm slotted bases.

The colours and heraldry is all fictitious.

Painting the Iron cross -like design was easy. The other (red horse) was a swine!

Other than that the models were easy and a joy to paint.

With 10mm miniatures it's all about using shading washes (in this case those from Games Workshop) and then layering lighter shades over the raised areas, I'm finding. But I've only painted a handful, as of yet.

I'm now waiting for a copy of (the rules book) Lion Rampant to arrive and then I can begin work on buying in Pendraken models for some armies.

The painting area, up in the attic/loft space. Don't be fooled by all those paints (not many by most painter's selection) as the majority are never used and have, I'd imagine, probably gone dry inside the pot and need throwing out.

The two models from this post can be seen undercoated atop the piece of wood on the cutting mat. For those interested, the other miniatures are; Artizan Cowboy, Gripping Beast Dark Age, Pendraken ACW and assorted C20th for VBCW.

Back to the painting; two 10mm mounted figures should get me four points!

Great entry Roy! I love this scale and you've done a cracking job on them, especially the free hand crosses on the horses' caparisons - very nice.
I also appreciate the photo of your hobby desk. Nice, neat and bright (and I can attest to the high percentage of dry pots in my setup as well).

  1. Great painting on such a small scale. Looking forward to seeing the VBCW, my current favorite period, and the ACW figs, about to become my new favorite (hopefully)

    1. @Martin Cooke: Thank you.
The VBCW are one of those projects that never took off, though I'm going to paint up the small number of miniatures I do have just for the practice in the scale.
The ACW are part of a project that's stalled since last summer, and one that I really must get back into.

  5. Those are brilliant. I've been considering buying some 10mm to use as map markers for a campaign. You may have just convinced me that is a good idea.

  6. Seems 10mm gives a lovely effect, comparable with larger scales! Nice work!

  8. Your 10mm figures are ace. I shall have to look at Lion Rampant rules for 10mm after seeing these. Top Notch.

I haven't received the rules yet (blooming Amazon!) so I ain't got a clue how they'll work yet. But I'm hoping that I can use the Pendraken Mongols for an army, as the new figure range is very good.

In this case the models are very well sculpted, and helped with the painting.

I felt the pictures of the painting area would round out the post nicely, what with there only being two figures on display.

  12. I would have thought the Prussian cross would have been more difficult but a very nice job you did of both figures

No The Prussian cross I managed to get done first time, painting triangles and making sure they met in the middle.
As to the other, I ended up needing three attempts to get the last cross to the same size as the other side.

  14. Lovely.. PS. I notice you use those little jam pots for holding paint like I do.. how do you stop the lids sticking?! Drives me up the wall... :o)

As to the jam pots: I've only ever had trouble with one so far, it took several attempts to break the seal but I managed it with brute force.

Now, when I shake the pot, it's more of a light, clockwise twirl as opposed to a vigorous up-and-down shake, so the paint doesn't really come into contact with the lid or the top of the jar. I've not had any problems with the lids sticking since.

Sods Law says I now will :)

  15. Great little tin boys! I'm going crazy with my 15mm infantry at the moment, and here you are with two stunning 10mm! I'll keep plugging at them, although I picked the "easy" ones to get started! ;)

At one point the re (no, scrub that). Twice the red horse mini' nearly never got finished. One major setback had me wanting to throw it in the bin, but perseverance rescued it

The whole loft space received a clean out pre-Challenge. You should have seen it beforehand... :D
