From GillesW - Cow Hides for Everyone! (150 Points)

This time we have the heavy infantry (the disposable nappy fighters) of my mycenaean project. As usual they are from Essex Miniatures and Chariot Miniatures' 15mm ranges.

To avoid the bending spears syndrome on the table, I cut off the  lead spears on the Essex figures and put plastic bristle brush in place, it was time consuming but I hope that it will worth it when I'll play them.

For an ease of play I also put them on double bases and painted some change with swords.
Of course their commander is on foot too.

So only 65 foot figures ready for this week, the other and last part of the project still un-based and will be for next submission.

From Curt:

Your post title pretty much nailed it: Cow hides for everyone!  Another excellent entry Gilles! Obviously the cow hide shields are brilliant but your bristle-brush spears look the business as well - much better than the lead spaghetti we usually have to endure. Time well spent I say (and so will the bonus points).

Well done!

  1. Nice looking Mycenaeans. Are they for FoG or AdG?

    Great work Gilles :)

    1. Hi Tamsin,

for FOG AM, I 'm the specialist of looser armies at our club (Early Lybians, New kingdom Egyptian, etc...)and Idon't speak of my army lists choices;-) .
I don't like ADLG, for me it's a DBM "like" but in worse ( and I was a supporter of DBM in it's early days).
      thanks for your comments.
      All the best.

    2. Yup, I've tried ADLG and it can be very gamey. I do like the pip mechanism as it does introduce some uncertainty that you don't get in FoG. However, the single D6 mechanism does make the results of combat etc a bit too random.

  4. after eating that much beef I think the nappies are superfluous. Great looking unit. Phalanxes always look better in 15mm. I think

  6. Very, very nice indeed Gilles. I know from experience how tedious cowhide shields can be and this is an impressive collection. Keep em coming!

  11. I have a Mycenaean/Minoan army to paint. I keep meaning to but I never get round to starting it. These are such good eye candy I can see it creeping closer to the brush with each breath.

  12. A tiny phalanx of goodness there. The shields make me think how much I'd like a glass of milk. :)
    Well done sir.
