From RoyW - 10mm (very fashionable) Zombies! (14 Points)

Hello everyone,

It's been a while since I last posted anything. The reason being, I suffered painting burnout from everything I did during December (which, incidentally, was the highest output of work I've ever achieved in such a short period of time).

Anyway, I'm back painting once again and will hopefully see out the rest of The Challenge.

The miniatures shown are all 10mm Pendraken Miniatures - Sci-Fi Zombies.

I've based them on Octagonals to help with quick-glance recognition during gaming.

The Survivors will be based singularly on round bases.

Also, to help distinguish the living from the dead, the survivors will be painted with natural skin tones and the zombies have been painted with green skin - again, to help during gameplay.

I bought enough models for twelve more bases of these and I hope to work in more fashion designs onto the clothing; Adidas, Nike, camo' patterns and imagery, etc.

If nothing else, these zombies are colourful!

Points: Fourteen 10mm foot will give me 14 points.

From Curt:

Yeah, the December/January flurry often creates painting burnout. Wait until late March - then we'll have some real paint zombies (right Tamsin? Ray? Millsy?).

These are very cool figures, Roy. Their flesh is ghoulishly wonderful. What system are you using them for? I really like the octagonal bases with the high-contrast black edging. It gives a nice 'playing piece' quality about them.

Great work.

  1. Well done Roy. Good to see some zombies in the challenge. I have often considered getting these figures so it is especially nice to see them painted so well.

I bought the army pack expecting to receive some of the female zombies, but unfortunately they're sold separately. So I'm now having to buy even more zombies :)

    2. Splendid we all need more Zombies.

  2. Nice Zeds!

    "Who's Zed?"
    "Zed's undead, baby. Zed's undead."

It is easy to get burned out during the Challenge. I've learnt from experience not to blast out too fast - you have to remember that this is more marathon than sprint and pace yourself accordingly.

I'm glad to hear you are recovered now. Keep up the good work :)

    1. @Tamsin: Thank you.
Picking too large a points target affected me a little. Not being familiar with what I could manage, 750 was too large a figure to meet.
400 points might be a more achievable goal and help to see me through till the end.

10mm zombies are so much easier to paint than 28mm, for me. The larger variety are still unmade in their boxes, for starters.

  4. These are really nice and a god return to the desk.

I've struggled this last three weeks but in part to far less time available for the desk.

I've only the Crooked Dice zombie rules, 7ombieTV. I'll have to sort out doubling up the necessary stats, since I've based them in twos.
The basing is thanks to your comment on basing officers/ncos on differing bases for WW2/modern games, for ease of recognition. In this case, the survivors will be based on round bases.

    1. How do you find the Crooked Dice rules? I've never tried any of their products but they look like they've been designed in the spirit of light hearted fun. I like your approach to the basing of these, especially since these are smaller scale models the varying base shapes will definitely help you out (it definitely has for us!).

    2. Pass. As I've not played them yet.
Simon Moore [BlaxKleric] plays them often, so he will be better to answer your enquiry ... Simon!

    3. Curt, rather than hijack Roy's painting thread, I've emailed you some links to some of my Batreps, and can take you through the rules if you want? I highly recommend them. Indeed its all I play these days :-)

As most great ideas are, the basing one was borrowed from somebody. In this case it was Curt who suggested it to me, in regard some 15mm figures earlier in the Challenge.

I don't think they'd win the Steve Dean Forum's painting competition though ;))
