The army thus far, with more to follow:
Thats 19 x 28mm figs for a total of 95 points. I thought I had better post them for Tamsin's consideration before I take up my minioning gauntlet tomorrow :-)

Ave, Paul! Nice work on those Romans. And 95 points it is!
Tamsin
I’m more an Early Imperial guy, but I’m loving these caesarean units that you’re pumping out Paul. Nice shields.
ReplyDeleteThanks Peter, appreciated. Remember, that there would be no Empire without the lads of the late Republic :-)
DeleteLove those shields!
ReplyDeleteThanks Ray. LBM stickers - I find them very fiddly and time consuming, but the proof is in the pudding!
DeleteGreat work here! I have a full force of Early Imperial Pretorians to paint up soon.. will have to come back to these for inspiration!
ReplyDeleteThanks Lee. I am going to use these guys for very early Imperials also - I suspect that the troops of Augustus ranged far and wide in exactly this garb before the fancy new segmented armour was developed and then issued across the expanse of the Empire.
DeleteAve Dominus! May these new (lovely looking) recruits serve Caesar proud. Loving the bright shields though it'll make them all the easier to spot in the forests of Gaul :)
ReplyDeleteThanks buddy! There is no point in bringing you the bright light of Roman civilisation if you cant see it coming you know... :-)
DeleteWell done Paul! The boars insignia is indeed quite striking and contrasts nicely with the red tunics
ReplyDeleteThanks Nick! I was going for a bold contrast (and not an 'all red' look) but was worried that without any lighter colours on the models it doesnt tie in well. Was thinking of making the helmets plumes white but was a coward to try. Went with a light grey plume highlight as a compromise and when all ranked up in a mass they kind of tie themselves together. In any event, they boldly proclaim their presence and its nice to see shield that arent all laurel wreaths Imperial style - they are Soldiers of the Republic after all, by Jupiter!
DeleteWell, no resting on their laurels either for them I guess 😂
DeleteMore splendid looking Romans! Lovely!
ReplyDeleteBest Iain
Thanks Iain!
