From RafaelO: French Light Infantry and German Mortar 20mm (60 points)

This new year I want to complete a new French Infantry Corps for my napoleonic games, currently playing Bataille Empire in 20mm. So, begining with the 1st Division I painted a French Light Infantry Battalion (4 bases - 12 miniatures) represented by the carabiniers company. Carabiniers were the equivalent to Grenadiers on regular infantry battalions.

I painted them using almost exclusively Vallejo Xpress paints, Contrast, and some traditional paints for highlights.

My other project, started last year, is based on the Ardennes in 1944/1945 and the last German offensive on the Western Front.

In this case, I've finished a mortar team and its observer for Bolt Action or Chain of Command.

German Mortar

In summary

12 x 20 mm Infantry models @ 4 points = 48 points.

1 x 20mm Infantry model @ 4 points = 4 points.

1 x 20mm crew-served weapon @ 8 points = 8 points.

Total 60 points.

Cheers,

Rafa

That is one awesome levell of painting Rafa! Both the crispness and saturation on these miniatures are brilliant. Are the French Napoleonics HäT figures? And do I recognize some ESCI ERTL figures among the Germans?

  1. Yes, the French are Hat from the set 8220. The mortar team crew are from Italeri Winter German Infantry and German Elite and the observer is from Italeri, but the mold is from an old set made by ESCI.

  2. Awesome work Rafa, I always have had a soft spot for those legere uniforms. A 12 men per company, are you aiming for 72 man battalions? That needs a huge table? The mortar team is great too, but not in that smashing legere loo with red trim.

    1. Thanks! No, we play Bataille Empire which use 4 bases to represent a whole battalion. For some battalions of French light infantry I use Carabiniers minis and for others I use Voltigueurs miniatures.

  7. Lovely work, Rafa. I have a soft spot for 20mm as it's such a great scale to work in. The mortar unit is ace but the nod has to go to the French light infantry - terrific work!

  9. Fantastic work, I know sometimes plastic injection sculptures can be paint unfriendly but these are so good they look like metal - I like you have illustrated your comfortable with such different painting techniques:)
