The figures is from Black Scorpion and is 25mm. I do not know who the sculptor is as the name is not listed. Not listing the sculptor, is to me, an unforgivable sin. In my opinion, they are the real talent in this hobby and without them, we'd all be sitting around with our thumbs up our arses.
What drew me to this figure is the way the head is cocked back with that chin up in a defiant tilt. That feature alone carried the sculpt for me. This was cast is resin and the texture was quite rough. This made getting smooth blends on the face difficult, but it helped when trying to make the jacket look rough and worn.
This gives me another staggering five points.
Whoa that is Billy the Kid, that's two for two on nailing iconic characters today Anne. Great figure with superb painting! Billy has a real maniacal look to him, I wouldn't want to cross him. I also really like the effective basing
I get to dole out some bonus points and have done so here because, well just because...
fabulous paintwork !
ReplyDeleteBeautiful work Anne. I love the maniacal look in his eyes. 'I'll make you famous...'
ReplyDeleteI have the very same pet peeve - It makes me crazy when sculptors are not credited on manufacturers' sites. Like these little figures just show up out of nowhere? Are created by elves? The sculptors/designers are the true artists here and they should be recognized for their work.
And a lot of sculptors work for multiple manufacturers and knowing who that sculptor is makes it easier to find lots of figures by them.
DeleteYup! I have to say, it's this arcane knowledge that makes the hobby particularly fun for me. Then again I'm an archivist so arcane/hidden knowledge is my M.O. :)
DeleteA great figure! and Painted to your usual high standard. I'll have to check him out I real like Balck Scorpion and thier old west stuff.

ReplyDeleteI really love your painting Anne - such a distinctive style. Totally agree with you about sculptors not getting the credit. I didn't get around to it last year, but I was thinking of giving sculptors some love by running a blog series on my favourite sculpts. You may have given me a nudge to do it.
ReplyDeleteLoverly work as always. Splendid brushwork.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous painting Anne. Really beautiful.

very good point on sculptors, it's always nice when you like a figure from a range and then find out it's a sculptor you know. And the figure is just fantastic.
ReplyDeleteBrilliant Anne, you've done it again!

There is a good application for the Writers' Style - is the impossibility of writing otherwise. "Looking at the works of Anna realize that this is true. It is valuable when you see the work with painting miniatures that convey the style of the artist. It can be mistaken for Tyler and Aeolus, but can not be confused with anybody, Anna. Thank you very much for the opportunity to see such work.
ReplyDeleteAnne, that's just brilliant. I love the cockiness, the nonchalant way his head is at an angle. It's a really great miniature - The Kid is so much part of the Old West. You just nailed him wonderfully.
