From TeemuL - 28mm Amber Wizard (5 points)

As I mentioned earlier, my hobby time is decreasing and most of that little I have used for my next bonus round. I still managed to paint at least one new model for this Tuesday (one of my targets was to get something ready for every week). So let me present you an Amber Wizard.

He is a plastic 28mm wizard from GW. I bought this second hand in case my Empire army needs a wizard at some point, but at the moment I'm more focused on the dwarfs. Anyway, I think this one will see more action around the Blood Bowl arenas for an easy 150 000 gold piece for a quick fireball.

Maybe the lack of properly painted wizard resulted on an unimpressive magic yesterday, when my wizard was not able to do any harm on 5 skavens on D6 roll of 4+ (1,1,2,2,3). Money well spent.

Back to this model, major part of the miniature is a wolf cloak, which I painted grey, gave a brown wash and then couple of different highlights to make it more interesting. It barely shows in the pictures, but his beard is whitish grey where the wolf cloak is more brownish grey. Rest of the colors are quite earthly colors, fitting the nature of amber wizards. Some red was a must, so I painted the stuff to bright red.

5 points only, but I'm ahead of my schedule.

Nice work Teemu. No worries about taking things a bit easy if you're ahead of your schedule.

  1. Keeping to any sort of a schedule for this three month epic is a big deal. Nice job on the wizard and I'm looking forward to your Nautical entry!

  2. Yeah. The schedule is out the window now.
Nice Wizard. Not sure if I was him that I would be to keen on blasting out fireballs with a fur cape and that beard. :)
    cheers

    1. Fireballs might not be the first choice of amber wizards, that might explain the poor results. :)

  3. Really like what you've done with him Teemu! I've wanted one of these for a while now. I should just do it :-)

    1. Thank you Michael. It was nice to paint a single figure for a change instead of couple of similar. I'm happy with the result although there aren't that many details.

  4. That dice rolling is about as good as mine! he could make a very nice Frostgrave "Shaman" if you wanted him too as well. Nice figure well painted.

    1. I have read a bit of Frostgrave (and seen a lot of painted minis here and elsewhere) and it is interesting. I played a little bit of Mordheim years ago and people keep saying, that this is almost better. But I don't think I have to play that in near future - that doesn't prevent me buying and painting minis, though. :)

  5. I've got that figure, I converted it for Necromunda by swapping the staff for an autopistol! Shocking dice rolling- I feel your pain.

    1. Last season I was playing with humans and rolled 1s for Go for Its... Wizard with an autopistol - sounds nice. :)

  6. Nice work Teemu. I like your personal goal of submitting something every week. I think I'll try that next year. I've not seen this mini before - I like his claw thingy. I hope he improves your fortunes in your games. :)

    1. Thanks. When there's not much time, it would be too easy to just go to bed, promise to finish the mini next week and sleep instead of painting. Personal target makes it easier and gives a schedule. Just like the bonus rounds, they motivate to paint something "unnecessary(?)" from the lead pile and give a schedule. Yes, I hope he will improve my plays, too. :)

  7. Nice work on the wizard, Teemu! Very nice Old hammer feel to him! For the dice...best to start appeasing the dice gods. I can't remember all the rituals , but I think you have to smack yourself in the face with a rubber chicken for every time you said the phrase, " anything but a one" ;)
