Entry one from the brushes of The Yarkshire Gamer were two battalions of these 15mm SYW Saxon Infantry and entry six is the final four battalions I needed to complete the Saxon Infantry Contingent at Minden.
If you missed the last post, the basic private figure was commissioned by our gaming club in the early 90s. Each Battalion has 16 Figs and a flag, the two units netted me 66 points last time so I'm guessing 4 will be handy looking 132 points. I also have a foot in a 15mm SYW side challenge so these will keep me ticking along nicely.
SYW-wise now the Saxons are done I have some British Artillery next up followed by some British Cavalry, after that my "to paint" box only has 2 French Cavalry Units left (That's the 15mm SYW box only !) might have to get some more.
Onto my days off now so the 28mm AWI Cavalry IS going to get finished, honest.
Hello Ken, thanks for this great little SYW entry to break up Stave's waves of German armour. They look really nice in their simple uniforms but colourful flags. I like your low-key groundwork on these too, doesn't detract form the advancing ranks of infantry.
You are absolutely right on the points tally: the troops and their nice flags make 132 for you, bringing your tally to 541, more than 2/3rds of the way to your target.
Phil
These are lovely
ReplyDeleteThanks Adam, all 14 battalions done now, in danger of having to buy more Figs, again.
DeleteI seem to be typing "I know nothing about the SYW" over and over again. That does not stop me looking at these and thinking WOW.
ReplyDeleteCheers Clint, glad to be the teacher of SYW.
DeleteI may take you up on that it seems more interesting and less well known than Napoleonic!
DeleteLots of great and unusual uniforms, Prussian troops can be a bit super human in some rules which is why I have based my Armies on Northern Europe and the Minden Campaign. Hope to get back gaming the period in the Summer.
DeleteI think it was because of their successes in the 7YW that stunned everyone when Napoleon stomped them fast later on!;)
DeleteThese are really lovely Ken.
ReplyDeleteThanks Rod, I will put up some pics of the full 14 battalions on my Yarkshire Gamer blog over the weekend.
DeleteLooks great en masse!
ReplyDeleteThanks, looks even better when all 14 are together.
DeleteOne of my favourite periods, never painted any Saxons though? Great work Ken!
ReplyDeleteCheers Ray, they formed a decent chunk of the French Army in the north, useful to have lying around.
DeleteAbsolutely beautiful. Makes me want to dig up my copy of 'Barry Lyndon'. :)
ReplyDeleteI think BL is being spruced up and rereleased this year.
DeleteMost definitely a Barry moment
DeleteGreat units. I am really loving all the SYW stuff this year. Long live the lace wars!
ReplyDeleteToo right Peter, SYW has been neglected too long.
DeleteNice work Ken - our side duel is definitely hotting up :)
ReplyDeleteCheers Tamsin, I have run out of Infantry figures to paint though. Artillery next ;-)
DeleteLovely job. Nice to see them ranked up
ReplyDeleteThanks Dave, you can never have too many ranks !
DeleteBloody lovely, these will be hard to follow as I start work on my sons French!
ReplyDeleteIan
Cheers Ian, looking forward to your French.
DeleteAnother amazing 15mm SYW entry Ken!
ReplyDeleteCheers, Millsy
DeleteGreat choice of regiments, I also love the scenics you used for the pictures!
ReplyDeleteThanks Sander, the scenics are a good way of hiding the 28mm WW1 game going on in the background.
DeleteSplendid looking collection.
ReplyDeleteThank you
DeleteKen, I've really been enjoying your SYW entries. Lovely to see these splendid troops in array.
ReplyDeleteThanks Michael, that's all 14 of the Saxon Infantry done now, I've put some pics on Yarkshire Gamer
ReplyDeleteA wonderful looking array of troops!
ReplyDeleteChristopher
Thanks Christopher
DeleteA gorgeous display of 15's! I hope you do buy more as I'd like to them done up like these!
ReplyDeleteThanks David, there are a couple of thousand painted figures of Allies and French in a cupboard at Castle R as a start.
DeleteVery nice, Ken!
ReplyDeleteCheers Barks
