KyleC - 65mm Samurai (12 Points)
So here is a new release from Mr Lee's Minis, but also my latest paint job. The Big Haired Samurai.. smoking a reefer, and ready for a fight if one happens to come near him.
The socket will get painted black along with the other showcase pieces coming up for shows soon, but in the meantime he is sitting on a nice and easy base to show off the painting of the figure more so than the basing works.
Really had fun painting this piece up which was Sculpted by Oleksandr Bilibov from Ukraine.
I look forward to painting up another version of this in the near future here. Might do a bit more atmospheric work on him in that case and a slight conversion on it as well.. but it should be fun all the same.
Now to see what else might get painted in the next few days :D
ByronM - Wow, excellent work Kyle! Now I want one!!!! I love afro samurai, the show had such character, and this figure and your painting captures it so excellently! Damn, now I have to track this down. Truly great work on painting this guy, the shading on the jeans and shirt especially look great, as does the flesh tone.
Since he is bigger than a 54mm I am going to give a few more points than that, so 12 points for this guy.

WOW a very impressive piece
ReplyDeleteThanks Byron for the kind words, and he was a lot of fun to paint up. It's currently on pre-order through Mr Lee's Minis so anyone looking to pick on up ( though it is limited to 75 pieces ) can email them at mrleesminis@gmail.com ;)
ReplyDeleteThanks MrLee, already done! :-)
DeleteLike the Boss that you are! :D
DeleteWhat a fine figure. Looks like he stepped out of a Blaxpolitation homage as directed by Tarantino. I love him. Your work on the colours is sublime.
ReplyDeleteGreat figure and fine painting Kyle :)
ReplyDeleteAmazing figure Kyle. My eyes are not as young as they used to be, when I first saw the thumbnail picture I saw fuzzy black hat, white jacket and blue pants and though "Hungarian Grenadier"!
ReplyDeleteThat's hilarious to know. Hope you weren't disappointed in the end then :)
DeleteThis is so awesome. I remember reading 'Afro Samurai' (a graphic novel) a few years ago and loving it. You've done a fine job on capturing the moodiness of him (and I love the jay he's holding).
ReplyDeleteHeh. Thanks Curt. Was cool to see the smoke in hand from the sculptor. Was happy with regards how it came through in the end. Have to paint a second one now :) Have ideas to improve it next time :)
DeleteClass!
ReplyDeleteWow, that's really brilliant!
ReplyDeleteVery cool!
ReplyDeleteThat is a beautiful sculpt and paint job! I can almost hear Sam Jackson talking smack! ;)
ReplyDeleteThankfully it is not the trio from Samurai Champloo, so I my impulse resistance, although weakened, is still strong enough to hold on! ;)
Mmm good to know. Maybe in the future then I can break that resistance in the future ;)
