From Curt: Champion of Khorne for Nick (Violence) (25 Points)

Hey There!

I thought I'd start sneaking in some entries of my own before we wrap up just to keep my meagre points tally ticking along.

Nick (AKA 'MartinN') and I have been doing an annual figure exchange for quite a while now and for this year I promised him something 'Old World' themed.

So here we have a Champion of Khorne, a model that was released way back in 2004.

I think I got this guy from a Games Day in Toronto (I went to a few when we were out East), but I can't be sure of that. He has been lurking on my paint desk for two decades now, so I thought it high time for him to get painted, and what better reason than as a gift for a good friend.

You usually see these guys in classic red Khornate armour, but I thought I'd keep him a little more subdued and down-to-earth in brass, bronze and steel.

He's standing astride a great heap of skulls (24 of them I think) so Barks should be quite pleased.

I hope you like him Nick (if not he'll happily take your skull).

I'll also have this lad stand in as my submission for 'Violence' - Khorne be praised.

5 for the Champion and 20 for the theme.

Thanks!

- Curt

Its always a treat when one gets to Minion our benevolent Snowlord! :-)

A classic model that I've always liked - in fact I painted one of these in my first challenge back in 2014. The pose is so dynamic. I always saw him as appealing to the Blood God with an impassioned "Are you not Entertained?" :-)

As ever, Brass works brilliantly for Khornate folks and gives him a great "I don't waste time cleaning armour, I just sharpen my axe and claim skulls" kind of vibe.

Great job mate - Lucky Nick!

  1. This is brilliant dude! He has all of the key Khorne attributes, without the total absurd Flanderization one sees in these sorts of figures these days.

Just the right amount of red - while still terrifying to see!

    1. Thanks dude! 'Flanderization' is the perfect term for some of the newer models from GW. :)

  2. Thanks Paul for minioning this entry. I actually remember that entry of yours as this guy was sitting on my desk at that time and I said, 'Geez, that reminds me I really should do something with this...' :)

  4. Nice subtle touch on champion. Nothing says death dealer like a floor full of skulls.

    1. Thanks Tom. The armour may be subtle compared to the usual Khorante bling, but I'm afraid the pile of boney noggins is a bit of a giveaway... :)

  5. Smashing colour choices, the reduced red makes him seem far more menacing

  6. That is a mad figure - wonderfully painted. Like all the skulls he (?) is standing on.

    1. Thanks Richard. Yeah, I suspect he's a bit of an overachiever.
