From ChrisW - 1 trip on Sarahs yacht and Planet Earth Planet of the Apes (665 points)

Travel to Mars and Earth this week, lets see if the plans work out...I doubt it will happen...but if not all this week then some for next week too.

Well only made it to Earth...

So, if we did not set goals how else will be be disappointed? I could be like Peter in the movie Dodge ball and not set any goals, maybe I would get more sleep and not stress out trying to get stuff done, yeah, maybe. As I am sure people have noticed, I seriously under estimated how many points that I would be able to achieve throughout the challenge. Now that I am submitting my 10th post I realize that I still have not gotten any better at setting goals/targets

This week is another fine example of my poor estimation skills and an example of how I consistently think I will 'easily' be able to achieve whatever I have set as my goal only to find the hours flying by and me not getting everything done. I know boo hoo hoo!

This week starts with a journey via Sarah's yacht to planet Earth courtesy of Zira.

Then we land on a world turned upside down! Shock of shocks the cities are waste lands, and the world is ruled by apes. Yeah heard that one before.

This week I went a little overboard and built a 3' by 3' gaming board for Pulp Alley meets Planet of the Apes. Standard styrofoam sheets carved up, painted, flocked and debris and details added. The Sidewalks are thick cardboard, the rubble piles in and around the buildings is made of cork sheets broken up into random chunks.

As it looked when only 2' by 2'

I randomly gouged the surface, then painted it with black paint mixed with white glue. A textured brown past was applied to the rough areas and the urban bits were dry brushed various shades of grey. The highway had many layers of grey dry brushed over black 'tarmac' and dark grey sides.

The dome on top of the building is a nice find. Dollar stores often sell globes of plastic plants. I bought one to disassemble to use the plants as small scatter terrain. It left me with a green plastic globe. Cut that in half and voila a roof dome.

The spaceship is a paper kit that I downloaded for free, and printed at a larger scale. Still not up to a 28mm figure, but then the ones used in the movies were not really in proper scale either. The wreckage behind the ship is a bunch of bits from my bits box glues together. Note, the engine in the centre is actually a replica Stanly Cup toy. The part nearest to the capsule is off a Star Wars skiff.

The combatants

The humans

Anything not listed below does not count for points (cars, scatter scenery etc was not done for the challenge but is there for flavour)

The fence was done for the challenge just do not know how/if to score them.

  •  20 points for planet Earth
  •  20 points for Sarah's yacht
  • 290 points for 25 human (2 kids counted as 1 person) & 33 ape 28mm figures
  •   60 points for 6 x 28mm mounted figures
  •   25 points for 1 x 28mm vehicle wagon and 1 ape crew
  •  40 Subway & back engine part 28mm vehicle
  • 120 points for relatively flat 36" by 36" table [see below]
  • 20 points for the two half buildings [combined] and debris
  • 40 points for the Bridge/highway 14 x 8 x 6
  • 30 points for the domed building 9 x 10 x 6 [without dome

 665 points

For the table my thoughts are:

36" x 36" = 6 cubes by 6 cubes = 36 cubes @ 1" thick.

Divided 36 cubes by 6 = 6  6" x6" x 6" cubes = 120 points

Maybe my thinking is wrong...😇

That was certainly worth waiting for! And the honour of Team Tuesday is rescued with this mahoossive points-bomb from Chris! Huzzah!

That's a great looking table and a fantastic collection of Planet of the Apes figures. I can't fault your scoring for the terrain boards.

Now, to end my comments with a quote:

"Oh my God. I'm back. I'm home. All the time, it was... We finally really did it! [screams] You Maniacs! You blew it up! Ah, damn you! God damn you all to hell!"

From SanderS: Lady Sarah's Yacht to Glorantha and Glorantha Heroquest figures (70 points)

 Hoi,

When the Challenge started I wanted to actually enter 4 entries in each ring as well as finish the final quest, now (after the two weeks I lost during our renovation works) I would be happy to just reach Noel's Comet... So here are the first steps towards that goal and therefore I need to hitch a hike on the LSY towards Glorantha.

The female figure I would like to enter for this is a Blood Bowl Star Player (pun intended) called Zara, clearly inspired upon Karla von Kill. I have painted her in the colours of my soon to be painted human team "The Middenheim Marauders".

She will bring me 5 points for the figure and 20 points for using the yacht.

The Yacht will bring me to Glorantha were I need to enter something "quest-ish", that should present no problem at all: I have heaps of Heroquest figures in stock.

I chose to paint up these Chaos warriors as I really need them for the quests we are playing at the moment.

There's one for Tzeentch, one for Khorne, one for Slaneesh and two for Nurgle since I have two core boxes one of which still needs a fourth Warrior.

Pointswise the planet Glorantha will allow me another 25 points for the 5 Chaos Warriors and 20 points for the planet. The two locale's combined will net me 70 points

Next to Glorantha is a Warp Maelstrom that will allow me access to the Middle Ring for next week's installment.

Cheers Sander

Lovely stuff, Sander! That's another 70 points in the bag for you!

So, you want to take the Maelstrom to the Middle Ring? OK, well, I'll drop you off at...Cybertron. Yes, Cybertron should do it!

From TashaH Journey to the Outer Ring (Skaro) (Death Star)(Star Yacht)(89 points)

Finding myself on Skaro, we seem to have encountered a very strange doggo indeed. Perhaps Oscar should use the button thingamajiggy to find his way here. Maybe he could make a new friend!

Speaking of friends, it would appear our robot doggo has made friends with a very odd cobra. I think we should avoid both of these creatures and continue on our journey…

The doggo is extra grumpy because, when I was basing him, I may have dropped him and got resin sand all over his face. Oops.

Zipping over to the Death Star…

Hubris is on the menu at the Death Star today.

As can be seen in every superhero story, hubris always plays a role at some point in the plot. I think it is inevitable when you introduce otherworldly powers to seemingly normal individuals. There is something to being drunk with power, it always causes problems!

This Cyclops is from the WizKids Heroclix line.

I made some poor paint point choices with this figure and then spent a lot of time trying to fix them. I am looking forward to the day when I won’t be using as many craft paints. They definitely have their place, but the actual model paints are such a dream to use in comparison!

I’d now like to call on Lady Sarah’s Star Yacht for a relaxing ride to Babylon 5, utilizing this lovely Elf Cleric figure from Wiz Kids. She was a delight to paint.

That’s it for me.  Have an amazing day!

The points:

Robot Doggo 24 mm - 5 points

Iron Cobra 18 mm - 2 points

Cyclops 32mm - 5 points

Elf Cleric 42 mm - 7 points

Planet Bonus - 40 points

Star Yacht - 20 points

Total - 79

"There's a distinct whiff of collusion here!"

How very dare you! There has been no collusion whatsoever between myself and Tasha. Just because it's only been a couple of hours since I dumped her out of the maelstrom onto Skaro...I mean it's perfectly evident that she had figures waiting and ready to be painted for all the planets on the outer ring that she hasn't previously visited and got them painted, photographed and the post submitted in double-quick time.

Really, some people need to take their tinfoil hats off!

I suspect that Oscar would beat a hasty retreat and press a random button to get away if he came across that mean-looking doggo! Nice work on all of these!

Edit: score adjusted - I'd forgotten that it was 30 points for the planet you get dumped out of the Malestrom onto!

From SanderS: Pass me another Snotling! (210 points)

 Hoi,

Today there's another Blood Bowl team: a Snotling Team and it's yet again for another friend of mine (Martijn) I am painting up another big project for him so more on that later this Challenge.

For now I have painted it up in the colours he asked me to. I specially like the pumpwagons although I do believe Martijn wasn't too happy with how they performed in the first game we played last week.

First up the linemen, one of them is sporting a cap in the colours of the Labrunners, they probably nicked it from Mark's team:

Then the specials:

As is fitting, I also painted up the markers for the team, but haven't come round to painting the balls.

I also finished him a Troll to go along with the team as well as the two gutter runners that were missing from Mark's team last week.

The pumpwagons I will count as a mounted figure each (so 20 points total) and the markers I will take together as 1 figure so 5 points. So that brings it all up to a total of:

- 2 gutterrunners: 10 points

- 1 troll 5 points

- 18 snotlings is 90

- 2 pumpwagons

- markers 5 points

for a total of: 130 points

That's a very colourful team, Sander! However, I'm still trying to work out how those pumpwagons don't tip over backwards from the weight of those rocks...

As for the scoring, I'm going to count the pumpwagons as vehicles, which they undoubtedly are. They also have crew - it looks to be four figures with each one, making eight more snotlings. And two of the specials are riding squigs, so they're "cavalry". And there seems to be another snotling being thrown by the troll...hang on while I work out the correct points!

I make that:

17 snotlings on foot (including the one being thrown), plus 8 on the pumpwagons, plus 2 gutter-runners...that's 27 x 28mm foot @ 5 = 135 points

2 mounted snotlings = 2 x 28mm mounted @ 10 = 20 points

2 pumpwagons = 2 x 28mm vehicle @ 20 = 40 points

1 troll - I'm told it's 75mm tall, so = 1 x 40mm mounted @ 15 = 15 points

Total = 210 points
