From KyleC - Adventures - (271 pts)

Another week and some more squirrels here..

First up is a solid squad for my Death Guard Horus Heresy forces.. a group of 16 Breachers with an attached Apothecary to follow them around with.

Heads, guns, shields and bases all 3D printed. Using MKiii armor as a base for them as they feel more breacher and Deathguard like.

Airbrushed a lot to get the base layers down as well as some of the weathering. Lots of washes both from GW and Oils.

I feel they are very good candidates for the Book Studio considering the breadth of the Horus Library from Games Workshop ATM.

We then take a Limo over to the Fantasy Studio whereby I was tasked with our local Dungeon Master for another live game coming up. So a list of models was requested, printed, and painted up this week. Well mostly..

First up the tribute for the Limo. A Gorgon ready to trap any foolish adventurer who unwarily venture too close to her lair. Model by Loot Studio. I am really struggling with painting female skin these days it seems.. need to work on that some I guess..

The BBEG for the night.. an evil Wizard of arcane and necromantic powers.. model from Cast play. Had fun painting up the swirling magic hand...didn't put as much effort into it as I did with Vadar but I used the same principles.

He will be very protected though..

Flanked by a pair of Shield Guardians ready to protect as needed. Strong and unmoving until set loose! Models free on MyMiniFactory.

A chain demon pulled from Loot Studios. I figured since it was a demon then some weird and brighter colors would be best for him. So played around with different bright contrast colors here. Was interesting to do wet on wet with contrast paints for sure.

The main demon needs lackies.. and these Fisherman from Andor will do nicely. Sculpts from SkullForge Models. Had to check images online to get a proper likeness to them but I think they came out well enough and quickly again thanks to washes and contrast paints.

Another Loot Studios model but this time to represent a zombie of sorts. Felt it fit the theme alongside the Gorgon there. Went with a heavily oxidizes bronze for the metals here. And carried it through to the Wights that will flank him.

A collection of sculpts by Beastarium. Very fragile and thin models but a lot of fun to play with some new styles like the white robes there. The oxidizes metals really helped some here for sure as before that it was a bit too samey..

But then the bosses biggest pet/threat.. a swamp dragon! Model is by Warp Miniatures and is resin cast. Bought 2 years ago and never touched after trying to get it assembled.

Luckily this was a good time to assemble it. The gaps and slips on the gluing were then covered over with the mid from AK interactive. Helped to give texture but also cover the mishaps and mistakes that the model gave while assembling.

Lots of contrasts, airbrush, and washes. Some drybrushing and layering but mostly washes of various colors..

No idea on points for this.. is it a figure? Is it a vehicle?

All I know is that I am kind of scared of what the adventure will be come the 5th knowing what our poor characters are going to be up against!

And then a random triple weapon pack..

Left over from the 40k walls from before.. maybe worth 1 28mm figure? I dunno..

I still have a few more bits for the DnD game to paint up including my character and a pet for another player.. but that is likely to be for next week.

Seems one more studio and I can try for the Director's Chair.. might just have to give something more artful a go for the Arthouse Studio next! Let's see!

Points wise..

30x28mm Figures - 150 pts
3x40mm Figures - 21 pts
2x54mm Figures - 20 pts
Dragon - ??? pts
Books Studio - 20 pts
Sarah's Limo - 20 pts
Fantasy Studio - 20 pts
Total - 251 + dragon pts

In any case.. I have hit my goal for this challenge.. though still have a fair few projects ( and a few more purchases since starting ) to get through.. Let's see where this madness takes us then!

Minion MilesR: Wow what a range of minis - all superbly painted.  As for the Dragon, let me consult the Minion Book of Rules and Arbitrary Judgment:  OK section 34.69, subsection 17, paragraph 3 clearly states that dragons with fungal infections are the equivalent of a 28mm vehicle.  There you go - there is always a rule to be found.  271 points for you, Sir.

From KyleC - Mega Squirrel! - [High Adventure/Sarah's Limit] - (637pts)

Time to go on a high adventure here... or at least a fantasy based one compared to the adventure in illness and medical shenanigans that have been all up in our house this past week.

Lucky for me, this chest infection has left me winded, but also house bound. Meaning another week of no work, and mandatory rest.. though sitting was recommended as laying down brought on bouts of coughing fits like you wouldn't believe. Add in a foot flare and it was the start of a perfect storm! So sitting with the leg up was what the Emergency Doctor said I should do, so do that I did!

So that said.. we got a 'few' things sorted this week here.

So we did the High Adventure Studio this time around due to the large amount of heroes and villians that painted up this week for various games forthcoming.

First up some Gnolls from Warp Miniatures. 3d Printed which came out great first time. Multi-part figures save for the Champion and puppies there. The Beastman Shaman there is from Beastarium as a herd shaman but I really liked the pose.

I have to say that I really loved painting these up. Speed painted them with contrast paints over a black/white base. Tossed a Nuln Oil wash at the end for the Gnolls especially and called it a day. Only the Shaman got a bit more attention as he has a lot of details compared to the Warp sculpts. So needed a bit more time. All in though, these were done in an afternoon while resting.

Here we also have a few Dwarven adventurers from Arbiters latest Kickstarter that was just completed. The Dwarven Lords (aptly named and all). What is cool about these are that they are 3d printed, but without supports. The bases are integrated to the model, and you print it straight to the base plate. So leaves no marks, and is just a complete pain to get off the plate afterwards. Thankfully I only print these on my smaller printers, and they all have steel mag plates. Making it so that I can just remove them from the magnetic base, flex and see them ping across the room....

I wanted to give them a go, and try painting something without contrast paints as much. I can only say I was not as happy with the results, but also means I really need to get back to 'real' painting at some point.. But I now have a small band of 4 adventurers of different types to play in various campaigns or D&D games as/when they occur.

The Dark Dwarves here are from the same kickstarter. But heavily armored, and again I wanted to have a play here with some different colors and styles. Mainly the armor and skin (because what else is there here really).. For the skin, I tried something more pale, and sickly.. which just turned out to be a bit more pink in the end.. but worked in comparison to the blue armor. Which was my attempt at tinting the metallic paint before applying it. Which I have seen painters like Marco Frisoni ( YouTube painter ) do on a few of his projects. Was interesting to see and played nicely with contrasts and washes afterwards.

Now I probably should have kept these for something like the Book Studio, but I have had these since May of last year when I picked up the license for print-on-demand selling of them (when I was doing 3d printing services). They have sat on my shelf for a while now, having traveled to a few shows for display, but never really got a lick of paint.

I am really happy to see them painted up now however! Even if I have messed up the gang a bit.. Seems the merchant looking fellow there should be over in the Sheriff's camp, but I will just assume that Robin has sweet talked him into joining his band of merry fellows and thus is why he is here now.

Again I tried to paint for real with regular paints on Robin Hood, however he came out very pale and dusty. Thankfully a few glazes of Contrast paint (yes I really am addicted to them) helped even him out some. The rest of his gang were given the basic contrast treatment, and came together very nicely. The lovely chap on the right sporting the 2 finger salute will be my character in an upcoming D&D game as I try out a Human Fighter for a change. Let's see how he does there!

Late night Tuesday photos in the office vs the new display table

The Sheriff's men were a quick last minute addition here (literally just finished them Tuesday evening) to go up against Robin Hood. I am sure I am going to find a scenario for them to be used.. Though it is a lot of crossbow action here on his side, so not fully sure how Robin will do up against it all!

And finally... the big piece for this week.. The Wall!

I started a mini-blog/photo gallery of it on the FB group to show my progress. Not sure on how far along I would get considering I started it on Saturday. Consisting of 14 different pieces, and spanning 190cm in length (why not 200cm? good question.. can't answer it) and being 25cm tall (35cm+ for the gatehouse).. its a big project to jump into!

Yeah, I had to measure it.. a few times actually!

Though thankfully I had a mate come round on Saturday for a paint jam where we pushed each other to finish off our projects. Me with this wall and him with some Ork Dakka Jet Pilots... yeah it was quite evenly matched between us on projects (and the wall got finished first...). But a good solid 7 hours on Saturday saw all the stones painted up. Sunday another 7 hours saw the wood and roofing get done. Plus the first layers of oil washes laid down.. which sadly did next to nothing as I made them too thin overall. So the end result was just smelly walls..

Monday was a few hours just detailing the roof tiles, and drybrushing the walls a bit more to no avail. But Tuesday morning, in between calls at work, was the airbrushing of inks. Brown and Black inks thinned down heavily and sprayed into the shadows, cracks, crevices, and the like to add some depth and character to the wall. It was finally looking well worn and aged at this point so all the above photos were then taken as I was a bit too giddy and sleep deprived with it all being finished now.

A quick shot of my WotR army in front of the gatehouse.
This wall is going to feature A LOT as a backdrop going forward!

And a bit of a close up on the Dwarven Wizard here for Sarah's tribute to get me to the High Adventure location.

So overall it has been one heck of a week of painting, especially with the wall. And I have to say that I enjoyed the wall painting much more than I did the 40k terrain. Though speaking with my mate while he was around on Saturday it was more due to how I approached them that I ended up not liking the end results we believe.

As for points.. well.. it did take a bit of work to calculate here. Especially the wall. I tried to be fair in my thinking on it. So I first worked out what the volume of a 6in cube would be. Then I measured each wall section to get its volume. A 6in cube has 216in3 within it, whereas each wall section had 300in3 as they measure 6 wide, 5 deep, and 10 high. Making them 1.39 cubes each. Being 27.77 or 28 pts each. Being 11 of them, that would be 305 pts. The gatehouse itself is a solid 4 cubes seeing as it had easy measurements ( 6 deep, 12 wide, and 12 high ). So the wall comes out to 385 pts! Solid points for terrain at last!

Now for the full breakdown...

Wall - 385 pts
8x28mm Dwarves - 40 pts
12x28mm Robin Hood - 60 pts
16x40mm Gnoll Pack - 112 pts
Sarah's Limo - 20 pts
High Adventure Studio - 20 pts
Total - 637 pts

And not to mention that there is at least 4 squirrels here, and 2 airbrush projects happening.. posting those up will be interesting...

I literally have no idea what I will be painting next however. Aside from potentially some more characters for this weekend's D&D game so that everyone has a character for the table.. am not sure what to tackle next. Though I doubt it will be anything like this week's results that much is for sure!

Miniom Miles: Wow that is quite the points hall - love the "Wall"

From Kyle C: Chaos Dwarf Oathmark forces (365 points)

Ok yes, I have been a bit behind the others for posting/commenting/etc.. apologies for that.. No idea on why work has been a complete pain this year but it has really cut into my holiday/new year painting time significantly!

That said, I had a recent Etsy order fall through ( customer had an emergency and cancelled his order before it was ready ) of Warp Miniature's Chaos Dwarves. Sitting on them for a bit, and then said well.. this would look nice all painted up.. so here is my initial take on it!

So I bought a few bottles of GW contrast paint, and set to work!

Considering that they are a bit cartoony to begin with, and followers of chaos, I figured some nice out there colors for their beards would not be out of place. And I think they worked nicely to contrast the more bland aged copper and browns I used elsewhere.

So I did end up printing a few more to make full units of 20 here. Originally there were just 3x 10 units ( 2 cc and 1 ranged ) but upped the count a bit more there. Also added some Bulltaurs, a cannon ( just the crew painted so far ) and some more Heroes and adventurers.

The adventurers here were a lot of fun to paint up. Some might call the duo on the left a tribute of sorts, while the right ones hunt monsters or are a bit more wild..

I now prep the last of the heroes, including one on a massive mount, the cannon itself, before starting in on the Kobolds ( Hobgoblin substitutes ) that are numbering over 100 atm..

All in, this is 67 infantry (335 pts), and 3 calvary (30 pts) making for 365 pts total here.. Hopefully the next post will come sooner, and as always thanks to Curt and others here for encouragement to get back to painting! Even if it is making a new grey pile to paint instead of tackling the ones that have sat for a while lol.

Oh and the movement trays will all get done once they all arrive as am missing enough to cover the full force atm.

Very nice Kyle - I've heard good things about "Oathmark", and you join the list of Challengers who highlight the quality of the figures with fine brushwork (even if they are Dwarves). As for motivation, well, you are in a "safe space" - all of us have struggled at that moment of really wanting to game with figures, but also not quite really wanting to start painting them yet. AHPC was made to still such feelings, and replace them with fiery determination to press on! A 365-point-bomb drop would show to me, at least, that you are moving forward with sufficient "oomph" - well done.

From KyleC - Knights Solar - 10mm Halflings - 117 pts

Hi ho silver.. Away!!! Or something to that effect..

So as the undead force almost wiped me out, we switched gears to a scale I haven't done in over 20 years... 10mm! Not since warmaster was first released and I helped our local club by painting some of the display stock (which was a big deal for me at the time!) have I painted something this tiny.

These are the new files by Warploque Miniatures in their digital range. And I thought why not give them a go.. And these knightly chaps fit the bill for the Chamber as well I reckon..

So we have 9 bases worth of Spearmen (with a messenger on goat with the captain).. Hailing from the southern regions of their lands, known for their Pils beer and yearly beer festivals in tents.

Never one to turn their back on a good meal and a strong ale, but always there in groups cause safety in numbers (especially for Simon.. He is a bit of a lightweight and probably could use a hand getting home).

And then the Cavalry.. Or the ones that get to the beer first during festival times as their mounts needs to clear the fields for the tents..

But nothing strikes fear into the enemy much like a thunderous sound of hoofs and baying cresting a hill with tiny children holding toothpicks coming at you... Always a good fright with that there!

So was a nice different style of bits and bobs to do up this week.

35 figures = 35pts
31 cavalry = 62 pts
Chamber bonus = 20 pts
All in = 117 pts.. Points match the models.. Both are small! 😂 😂

From KyleC - Tomb - Skeletal Force - 985pts

Ok so apologies.. I had hoped to have some of this painting done sooner, but February has been a tough month to get through.. more so than January and that was quite bleek. And being as how it was all bleek it was a good time to get into the Undead force I have been printing in the background here. Or at least the Heroes and Core Units for it.

And um.. yeah it might be a bit of a points dump as well here.. but it was more that it all fit the chamber criteria best so... sorry?

So it is for a new game system ( to me anyways ) that our local club wants to get into post lockdown. Game is called Oathmark. It has the old fantasy battle feel for it, but with the ability to mix and match units and races based on how you build up your kingdom. I picked undead/humans for the most part, with the main reason being I had a ton of Skeleton Files from Patreons that I wanted to print up, and then I got a bit carried away!

So here is the Lord of the Kingdom, Ostoc Bardolf of Festerthorne, Head Lich Priest of the kingdom. Model is from Warploque Miniatures Digital range ( and excuse the blurry shots.. am trying to relearn the proper camera here.. not quite there yet ).

The rest of the characters have yet to be named, but taking suggestions!

His backup Lich Priest by Highlands Miniatures

Revenant General by Loot Studies

Vampire Lord by Loot Studies

Vampire Lord by Archvillian Miniatures

The 3 amigos.. of Revenant Captains

Skeleton Champion by Asgard Rising

Revenant Champion by Archivillian Miniatures

Then I did up 3 units of each Archers, Soldiers ( Sword and Shield), and Spearmen. All being a mix of Warploque and Highland Miniature files. Each unit was 20 models.

And then of course the Tombs from which they crawl out of.. I had planned to paint up a church to go with it, but then one of the Kickstarters I have backed announced that we will be getting a church from it.. so the one I have is tiny in comparison, so it got back burnered for now.

The larger tomb entrances I found on thingiverse, so not sure where they are from exactly. Caretaker skeleton by Warploque. And Viking burial tombs by Asgard Rising.

All told it is 191 models, and half a box of terrain pieces? So that's about...

191*5 = 955 pts
Half a box of terrain = 10 pts? Maybe less?
Chamber Challenge = 20 pts
Giving this post 985 pts there about? I had thought about doing up one more unit to make it 10 full units to show off, but my airbrush decided to spit its dummy out and have a fit, and I don't have energy to deal with it right now to work on another unit.

Expect more from this army in the following posts, and chambers, as they seem to fit nicely for level 3. And more so that I have a lot of the more special units to tackle.. just have to adjust without an airbrush potentially...

Unholy crap! I'm getting all the treats today! That is one heck of a points bomb, Kyle. And one heck of a backdrop for the photos - will we be seeing all those 3D-printed buildings painted up sometime soon?
