From DaveD - ‘Nam - M42 Duster (25 points)

This is the last bit of ‘Nam for a few entries. I wanted to clear out all the vehicles and that is now done . The last item is an M42 Duster - with 2 40mm Bofors . They were originally intended to be used for anti aircraft , but of course there weren’t many to shoot down . However they are capable of making a mess in the ground attack role .

This is a resin and metal kit by Full Metal Miniature - again very nicely cast . It’s a simple enough paint job following my usual recipe .

Points wise it’s :-

1 vehicle and 2 half crew so 25 points to the total and the Neverending Cold War side dual .

This will also put me a third of the way to my target as the first month of the challenge comes along. So bang on target .

Nice little "tank", Dave! I'm sure that will be quite effective at removing cover from suspected VC positions.

From DaveD: 'Nam - VC on the trail (40 points)

The 'Nam clear out continues. Having completed USMC vehicles it was time to add some for the VC. Now what better to fight the dastardly capitalists with than a bike and an RPG.

These are from Simon at Full Metal Miniatures . I have added a few RPG's to them from a weapons pack he does as well .

Damn - someone call the B52’s up ! These are tough critters.

So the equivalent of 4 mounted figures = 40 points , that also count to Neverending Cold War.

You thought I was joking about the B52 didn’t you.πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

The kit is easy .. the flight stand is the bitch! πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

Nice unit of cycling VC, Dave!

From DaveD: Tanks, Tanks , Tanks - ‘Nam - (& Under Construction) - 85 points

Ok so I kicked this challenge off with a little bit of metal , now it’s time for the proper heavy metal. Of course we think of ‘Nam as being grunts and choppers , less so tanks , so how many did I go for in 28mm  not just 1 oh no …two isn’t enough is it … so  3 shall be the number !

First up to boost the USMC are a couple of the wonderful limited edition M48A3 from Ged at Gringo40s . They are a mix of  resin and metal (tracks ,cupola and gun and a massive bag of stowage) . Overall a fine cast with a bit of extra model making skill required for the storage rail and baskets etc which I decided to make from brass rod instead of the provided 3D print resin bits as I thought they would be more sturdy .

I also switched out the decals to a set made by Star decals to give me different vehicle  options - they are a 1/72nd set nominally - but they do they job nicely

I found the Commander in the ‘Nam bits box - I think he was from the The Assault Group

MartinC of this parish has a acquired a bunch of supply trucks /gun trucks over the summer , it’s time to run a convoy through the VC positions I reckon

Infantry just for scale

Next addition is for my small and soon to be growing Anzac forces . A rather fine Centurion V with an ever useful dozer blade. This is a mostly resin kit from Full Metal Miniatures . Nicely cast . Again I picked up a set of decals from Star (in 1/72nd but they look just fine)

The Commander came with the kit along with the stowage

Lads are all just for scale , and were completed last challenge , and will be added to this year .

Well I reckon that’s me until the festivities slow down .

3 x 28mm Vehicles , and two half figure commanders = 65 points to my tally and the Never ending Cold War too (pretty sure almost everything in the do pile is for that πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚)

Now this may qualify for Under Construction as well - that damn dozer is really good at that along with the additions to the Anzac force coming along after this - so 20 pts for that too.

** edit - map updated  **

Cheers

Wow! You've been very industrious over the past few days, Dave! These tanks look fabulous. The colour and weathering look like they've rolled out of a newsreel. The brass rod additions are excellently done and the dozer bladed Centurion is just brilliant. I need one of those for both neighbourhood snow removal and perhaps the 'removal' of speeding vehicles going by our park. :)

Grand work Mr. D!

From DaveD: 'Nam - Anzacs, MACV-SOG & M113 APC - 97 Points

Its my 3rd challenge post focussed on my 'Nam project . Moving away from the US forces I have picked up the recently released Anzacs by Full Metal Miniatures plus a radio operator from The Assault Group and these have now been completed . Like all of these recent 'Nam releases from various manufacturers they are very characterful and a joy to paint.

Next up comes my small Military Assistance Command Vietnam - Special Operations Group team - 4 special forces in a more complex striped camouflage - "Light Weight Density pattern" - these are by The Assault group again .

Next is a single M1113 APC with commander and 3 riders - again this is an Assault Group set

15 x 28mm = 75

1 x 28mm commander - 2 points

1 28mm vehicle - 20 points

97 points

I think that enough green for a few posts - time for something else next week I think

Fabulous work Dave! Those Full Metal and Assault Group sculpts are excellent and you've done an amazing job with them with your talented brushwork. I also quite like that M113. I know it's really hard to sex-up one of these tracked boxes, but you've done a marvellous job with the decals, crew and weathering. All this Vietnam goodness aside, I look forward to your new endeavours.

From DaveD - ‘Nam 68 - various bits - 95 points

First post of this challenge for me is a a few items required for an upcoming ‘Nam game being run by myself and MartinC of this good parish . We did a play test recently and found we needed a few more items (mainly bad things for the US Forces ) so they have been fast tracked through the painting queue.

The ‘Nam project was born of a paint and chat session in the last challenge - where a few of use talked ourselves into “ooh shiney” - it’s coming along nicely now .

Downed helicopter crew from Full Metal Miniatures 28mm x4 = 20 points

I had completed the Helo last week as I knew these guys were on the paint list

I

Casualties and corpsman medic sets from Gringo40s 28mm x “10” - 4 prone so 40 points

Tunnel Rat and dog team -again by Gringo40s , one figure plus dog - 8 points

VC Sniper and VC team heading of with downed airman to the Hanoi Hilton - - x4 - 20 points

Full metal miniatures these bits

Some tunnel entrances from Full metal miniatures - x 6

Scatter terrain from Too Fat Lardies from CoC x 4

J
Now what’s inside the entrance ? Booby traps , tunnel, sniper , etc..

Not great volume on the terrain , but enough for 5 points I reckon .

Total -93 points

Provided our dear leader allows some meeting up next week we shall have them on the table for Operation Turkey Dinner - more later . There will be a host of other green goodies along in due course .

Post the holiday session I shall be hosting some more paint and chats which will be posted on FB page .

Points on the board - “Huzzah!”

Welcome back Dave!

Wow, you've been busy since the starter pistol shot! Fantastic work mate. That downed Huey is very impressive. I also like the VC vignette of them hauling off the wounded prisoner. Very evocative. I'm going to round off to 95 points for the submission. I hope that Operation Turkey Dinner can come off for you - we all need a little bit of levity (and good company) this season.
