From Adamc: Elf Templar for Frostgrave and Sarah's balloon (5 Points)

Another selection from one of the Bones Kickstarters.  She's no nonsense elvish warrior in a low guard stance.
Her only decoration is her sash.  The shading didn't photograph well which is too bad.
I like her weapon it reminds me the weapons used by the elves of the Last Alliance in Fellowship of the Rings.
Her two handed weapon will make her a great Templar option for my Frosgrave war bands.   I don't play as often as I used to but I've got a local Cub Scout group that runs a few game days a year an I've been running Frostgrave for them.   Points would be 5 for the single 25 MM figure.

Lady Sara could you please drop me off at Roundwood's Tower? I have am interesting contraption I want to exibit there.

From DaveD . Adam continues his whiz around challenge island

From BenitoM: Gaul Leader at O'Grady's Gulch (35 points) (for Jaime)

In my tour around Challenge Island I have arrived to the last spot in the Path of History route: O'Gradys Gulch. In this site we are requested to paint something for a friend.

Let me introduce you all to Jaiminsurix:

This is a Gaul leader that I paint for my good friend and long-time wargamer Jaime; as some of you may have guessed, Jaime works in the insurance sector, actually in Spain's largest firm specialised in export credit insurance.

A little bit of backgound: Jaime and I have known for a looooong time now (we met in our local club Club Dragon of Madrid in the mid 80s), both have "children"  (ahem...  over 20 years old by now) of roughly the same age and he introduced me to the world of Dungeon and Dragons.

Most recently he joined our small team testing the Too Fat Lardies Infamy! Infamy!  rules. Being a passionate Ancient period player, he has been generously lending his Roman and Gaul/Briton minis collection to test the rules, while the rest of us slowly build our own armies.

This is juts a small token of appreciation for his support in these past months while testing the rules. Jaiminsurix will now join the ranks of the rebellious Barbarian troops on the table and I hope to add some photos in the near future and tales of his endeavours.

The model is a metal 28mm Wargames Foundry, This is a veteran old model from the late 80s, included among those that I removed the paint and I'm now repainting again.

With this entry I add 35 points to my Challenge score (5 points from the model and 30 points for the spot in Challenge Island). I'm now one site away from completing the  5 required to present myself to the Snow Lord. But as this the last one of the path selected, I'll have to book a seat in Sarah's balloon, which I expect to do by the end of the week (hopefully).

From DaveD. Loving the bold blue colour scheme , and thats another x marks the spot down

From ChristopherS: More Fallschirmjäger (50pts.)

Now adding another squad to my Fallschirmjäger project which is coming along nicely. It is of course taking longer to paint these guys with their assortment of different equipment and complex camo, but is nonetheless fun and rewarding. This will be my third entry into the painting challenge so making progress.

The figures are from Crusader and Artizan and as usual very fun to paint. The paints I used were mostly Vallego and MIG pigments using an AP method followed by highlights.

Another interesting thing is basing size for skirmish gaming in that I've tried both 20mm washers and 25mm washers and found I generally prefer 20mm washers as it's easier to fit the figures in tighter spaces or rank up. My WWII and French and Indian War are on 20mm washers and my SCW and Germanics are on 25mm washers which if I could do over I would put them all on 20mm washers do to the flexibility I find it offers.

I will continue painting more Fallschirmjäger as I hope to have a complete force for CoC. I actually didn't think I would be able to stay focused long enough to see this through anytime soon, but I'm feeling pretty optimistic as I haven't lost any enthusiasm and in fact I have already started on the next  FJ unit!:-)

So that's 10 x 28mm figures of which 2 are lying down thus a total of 45pts.

Thanks for viewing!
Miniature Compamy- Artizan, Crusader

From DaveD - These are rather fine I must say. i will go with 50 points for these

From AlexK: U.S Armour (20 points)

This post is an addition to my World War II "Chain of Command" U.S platoon, its a 28mm scale Sherman M4 from Rubicon. The kit is nicely detailed and took paint well, not so much my poly-cement, but with the correct level of swearing and cursing she finally went together. I may well pick up another kit at Vapnartak this weekend, nice easy challenge points as they are.

Points wise I think it's a nice round 20.

Fom DaveD. Well you cant' beat a bit of Detroits finest.

From TeemuL: Fire, Fire! (45 points)

Here's something I was supposed to paint a year ago or so, but it never happened, since I had to paint something else. At the moment there is not that many needs, no army or campaign needs more painted forces at the moment, so I'm clearing my backlog in more or less random way. One reasonable way is to paint those figures I have primed already, so that is the reason for these demons.

There are seven metal Flamers of Tzeentch and one Ogroid Thaumaturge. Thaumaturges are strange creatures of Tzeentch, they are actually rather good in combat and they still are able to cast spells. I haven't actually tried him yet or never faced one, but that's what I have read. Actually, I'd like to get another one and convert him as Slaughterpriest of Khorne...

I'm not much of a blender (as miniature painter), but with these contrast paints it happens almost automatically and since I wanted to have some smoothness in the color transitions I tried it with these. They turned up rather nice. Big One got a bit too dark, but some drybrushing saved the day. The basing is Citadel texture "paint", which gives rather nice result after drybrush.

I calculated 45 points, 35 for 7 28mm demons and 10 points for the big demon (over 50mm tall).

"Demons?!? I have had enough of this atoll!"
"Get me a ship or something nautical!"
"Or better yet, get me a woman!"
"ANY woman!!!"

From Daved - The challenge always introduces me something i have no idea about - this is one of them..but they surely are colourful.. grand job

From NoelW: How do you spell "ford"? : Fran’s Fjord (104 points)

I thought a ford was a path across a river, not a river blocking a path. And what a river! Those hurtling waterfalls must be plunging the best part of a thousand feet down to that rushing water. A howling gale blows up the ragged valley, wailing like a banshee who’s stubbed her toe. Trees have been torn away by falling rock, and any stumps that were left have gone with the wind.

I fall to my knees, exclaiming: “Fran, my dear, what would I give for a dam!”

Or a bridge.

Or, well, I suppose that balloon would do…

---

In my quest to visit every location on the island, I’d left Fran’s Fjord till near the end, because I was pretty sure I had no 15mm sci-fi, and my only Imagi-nations projects are 28mm. I’ve been searching through ancient boxes and long-sealed cupboards in a vain hope that I’d find some lost figure I’d forgotten about. In fact, I found several, but none that fitted the bill. Then…

Pretty much the last thing you want to see when you open a drawer is a scurrying horde something like this (you'll have to imagine them unpainted):

I’d forgotten we’d a few painted 15mm Traveller figures, and then bought a few aliens to oppose them. But I’m sure we’ve never had this many. Four or five models perhaps, but now… How can there be so many? There’s two cute little baby aliens:

their many, many sibling aliens

and these seven Mummy and Daddy aliens. Which perhaps give an explanation -they must’ve been breeding in there.

Here’s the whole force (37 figs):

Painting these was quite easy, but also quite satisfying. Essentially, I didn’t undercoat them, but washed them with a thin black, so the bare metal still showed through, then a wash of a thinned green, then another wash of black and finally gloss varnish. Not elaborate, but quite a successful finish, I think:

Scoring: 37 x 15mm figs: 74pts, Fran’s Fjord: 30 pts = 104 pts

From DaveD. Oh dear thats the stuff on nightmares....I dont fancy the oppositions chances

One Banana

Two Bananas

Three Bananas

Four

All bananas make a split so do many more

Over hill and highway the banana buggies go
Come along to bring you the banana splits show
Four banana three banana two banana one

All bananas playing in the bright warm sun
Flipping like a pancake popping like a cork

Fleagle

Bingo

Drooper

and Snork

Confused, then you are younger than 50. The Banana Splits Showe was big when I was a very young child and it had the best theme song
It was so good there was even a punk version by the Dickies
The Banana Splits drove 6 wheeled amphibious Argacats (which were a nightmare to paint - yellow, orange and white are rubbish colours to use and black lines are spectacularly unforgiving) and they will allow me to mess about in the Douglas Shallows.
These figures are from Crooked Dice and called The Friut Loops
So that is 4x28mm vehicles and drivers = 90pts plus 30 for the location
Right now I expect you all to be able to sing all the words so go back to the top and practice

From DaveD - I know song that will on your nerves... get on your nerves. You are a bad man..Cracking job on these Martin - I look forward to seeing them on our Gaslands track... mind my version will have a lot more firepower mmmwahaha!

120 POINTS IT IS!

Tamsin Ascends Snow Lord's Peak

A herd of tiny lizardmen crests the summit, the mass of them carrying the luggage and stores of our intrepid adventurer, Tamsin.

She dusts herself off, looks around and blows into her hands to keep them warm in the chill air.

This week's Snow Lord's Peak brought to you from Mount Assiniboine on the British Columbia/Alberta border

The Snow Lord emerges from the treeline with a polish lancer czapka propped precariously on his massive head. 'So what do you think? I got this from Pete, he was just here. Pretty fetching, isn't it?'

Tamsin gazes at him for a long moment, appraisingly,  'You look ridiculous.'

'Hmm, Lady Sarah said the same thing. Actually, I think it makes me look quite regal. Maybe if I get the rest of the getup it will, you know, tie it all together.' Tamsin, thinking silence is the better part of valour just arches a single eybrow and smiles.

He daintily sets the hat down on a boulder and turns to her, 'So, you're here for your treasure I take it?'

'Yes. It's been a long journey and I'm curious to what you'd like me to do?'

The Snow Lord walks to the summit's edge, looking out over the island. 'Well, I hate to admit this, but I have a very bad memory, and for the life of me I can't recall why all of these strangers are traipsing around my island. They're scaring the locals,' he looks significantly at the milling herd of terrified lilliputian lizardmen, 'making a mess, and generally being a nuisance. Since you can travel through time, do you think you can cast yourself back and figure out how this all got started? Make me a scene of it in miniature, if you will.'

Tamsin smiles and brightly says, 'Got it. Toodle-Pip!'

From JohnS - G is for Guerilla at Benito's Brook 60 points

It's been an exciting week or two here at Casa Slowpainter, what with the roof leaking and blowing the electrics in the games room. So after pulling down a few display cases and cutting holes in others for access, all is well again and I can finally get these brave guerillas up for the Challenge.

I am painting these for a Sharpe Practice Spanish force (British Allies) and it occured to me that there was probably no braver feat of arms, no more forlorn hope than the ragtag Spanish guerrilla band. Your country has been occupied by a superior military force, your army has been shattered but you still band together with your neighbours and attack the forces of the Corsican Ogre.
Armed with whatever they can scrounge up - from a mismatched pair of pistols, a blunderbuss, muskets liberated from the remnants of the Spanish army or even an old sword, these brave chaps are ready to skirmish for their country.

Even a monk from the local monastery (obviously upset by the looting of the sacramental wine by the brutish invaders) has joined the band. These very characterful guerillas are from Brigade, I am really liking their miniatures.
The miniatures are all finished and have a brushed on varnish coat but I am holding off applying the final matt coat because it has been incredibly humid here. We all know that matt spray and humidity are not the best of friends.

That's 60 points for this lot, 6 figures at 5 points and 30 for the Challenge location.
PS. - I caught up with PaulOG and Barks at Cancon over last weekend. What top chaps, cheerful Challengers and all around nice fellows they are.

From DaveD : -They will do nicely for feats of derring do! 60 its is!

From LeeH - 'Rousell' the French Mercenary (Rousell's Sandhill) (45 Points)

Finding models to use in what used to be called the bonus rounds, has always been a fun side challenge to the main event. It has often been difficult to find the right figures but I think some of my best creations have been inspired by this part of the competition. So when I saw the Challenge Island options I was very excited at all the possibilities open to explore. One thing I knew for certain was that whatever route I took, it had to pass through Rousell's Sandhill. How could I miss the opportunity to gently mock fellow Reject and good friend, Ray?

Of course, the tricksy bugger did give us a tough brief, picking a period of 1660 to 1699 in which to find a suitable floppy hatted figure. Thankfully I've played this game before, and called on all my experience (and mendacity) with previous bonus rounds to creatively shoehorn this figure into the appropriate time period. Of course, I had to identify it first. I suspected it was English Civil War but wasn't sure and so I put a request out to the wargaming community hivemind via Facebook. A response took less than half an hour and I had its origins identified. This is indeed for the English Civil War and is a Redoubt figure of a French mercenary officer.

It is 1660 and the English Civil War ended nearly a decade earlier but Captain Rousell has rarely been out of employment since then. Time may have moved on but this battered and ageing warrior is still reliving his younger days, still wearing his old gear and still talking about the glory days. Of course, he could never go anywhere without his closest companion, the stalwart battle badger 'Stuart'. These two could certainly tell a few tall tales about their exploits. Rousell is feeling his age now though; a lifetime on the march, sleeping in muddy camps and all the rigours of the campaign have made him old before his time. Despite losing an eye (and a few teeth) there is life in the old dog yet.

Ok, ok, I know I'm stretching the boundaries of the challenge (and credibility) a bit here but he's literally the only floppy hatted figure in my lead mountain, so cut me some slack! This was a wonderful model to paint with some amazingly detailed casting, all perfect and without any visible flash or mould lines to contend with. The only flaw was a blemish on the right cheek where his eye should be. After some thought, I cut off the blemish and turned the defect into a feature, in this case, an eye patch!

This model should earn me 40 points I think; 5 for the figure, another five for getting a Badger involved and the usual 30 for completing the location. Next stop, the Snow Lords Peak. I'm quivering with fearful anticipation at the terrible challenge that faces me next. Wish me luck, whatever it is!

From DaveD. Thats a great figure Lee. i saw it in you post on FB before you started and thought it would scrub up nice!. Set of perfectly with the badger . Ray will be pleased - phew at least it wasn't budgie smugglers and floppy hats! I am going to give you 45 points - huzzah!
