From DaveD - the De Witts” & upto a 1000 Zulus - points 332

The local clergy the Reverend and Miss “De Witt”have seen the increase in Zulu forces - they have a warning for MartinC’s Brits - “You’re all going to die! “

As usual these are Pendraken Miniatures

This is modification of the ACW Ambulance with sides and rear being added in card . The driver is one from the Stagecoach set as he looks the closest one I could find . The lady is from the ACW civilians set .
Working in the casting workshop means I come across all sorts of stuff I haven’t seen before and come up with other creative ideas ..

Of course the portrayal in the film Zulu is inspiration rather than information. The Reverend wasn’t a drunk neither was there a Miss De Witt , but why let that get in the way, Hollywood has done much worse over the years .

Another 4 Zulu regiments have been raised - taking me to that mythical 1000  now painted - not bad for 5 weeks of painting .

Two veteran units with mostly white shields :-

The umKulushane -  “Coming at You” , at roughly 1500 men , with 87 figures

The -isAngqu  “White Tails” are roughly 1500 men , with 87 figures

The uKhandampevu “Beehive”, at roughly 1500 men , 86 figures

The umHlanga “Reeds” , at roughly a 1000 men , with 65 figures

So here is the Zulu army - 1000+ of em!

The Horns of the Buffalo

The Chest and Loins

The Right Horn

The Left Horn

I have some commanders and riflemen to add in and two more regiments at some point before the campaign game on huge 24x6 tables . But for now I think I am all Zulued out .

I still have another winter post to see out my challenge yet so for now it’s the points tally

Points :-

10mm vehicle = 6 , + 1 foot = 7

10mm foot - 325

Points also to

the colonial duel… Usuthu !

Stonking work Dave! I really admire how you kitbashed the ACW wagon to create the De Witt carriage. Lovely finishing work as well. But of course it's the final roundup of your Zulu force which gives me pause. Wow. Just wow. All the regiments arrayed for battle looks proper daunting - you can understand Mr. De Witts statement of, You're all going to die.' when you look at them all. As you say, not bad for 5 weeks work! Well done sir!

From MartinC: Bet I get the Maths Wrong again (400 points)

Another week, another shoddy attempt at maths. Retirement has impacted on my brain function, I spent 20 minutes last week trying to work out what day it was.

Another productive week of painting, "finished" the Barbarossa project and painted my Brother in Law's birthday present. Next week I am very busy, long weekend away and 2 days of gaming, so need to get my points in early.

I've been successfully teaching my BIL to play. Saxons vs Picts, using Kings of War in 28mm. He's really enjoying it and getting much better. So I decided to built him an army, Arthurian types.

Gripping beast plastic Thegns. A box has 44 figures, not quite enough for 3 units, but I had 4 spare figures I could use to complete the forces. He is a massive Barnsley fan so these has rec and white shields

A unit of armoured spearman, these are in Sheffield Wednesday colours, the hated enemy. These can fight for Mordred.

2nd unit of armoured spearman, back to Barnsley colours to calm him down

Next up the last of the Barbarossa units. Already planning the upgrades and campaign for Case Blue

PzIII, Pendraken as always

Engineer Company

Spare Motorcycle Company

Spare mortar and MG company

For the Russians a 76mm AA gun, command base and field gun

Motor rigle company, these may have too many men in each company, 3 bases not for, but better to have too many than not enough, and I can use them as a foot battalion instead

Spare Russians,  SMG company, mortars and maxims

Scores, note I actually did get the maths wrong but spotted it

44 x 28mm foot 220 pts
5 x 10mm vehicles 30 points
3 x 10mm guns 9pts
124 x 10mm foot 124 pts

Total 383pts (ish)

TeemuL: Two very nice and familiar projects, not a surprise to anyone, I guess? I appreaciate your colour choices on Saxons and Picts and especially the reasoning behind that. It gives a little more personality to the games and persons might get personally involved, too, which is a good thing. Very nice and crisp shields!

Your Barbarossa project finished? I'm sure there is something to add, may be some snow? It must feel good to have a project done and you can focus on games and other projects. Well done. I don't say your maths are wrong, but when I did count all the individuals, I got 385 10mm foot, so five more than you... It might be my eyes or counting a mortar as a soldier or something like that. Anyway the total would be 388 and I'll give you two points for the shields.

From MartinC: Guess What (141 points)

You were correct. More 10mm WW2. This time the Russians. I only have 3 more units to paint, after these, plus a few random stragglers to make independent companies.

These 3 units are Russian infantry battalions, and are suitable for the whole war

3 companies, 2 mortar section, MG section, ATR and HQ

Same but with pink flowers

And again with orange flowers

2 45mm AT guns for units yet to be built

Scores on the doors

129 foot, inc 0.5 pts for the prone guys
2 AT guns with crew = 18pts

Total 147pts

Saw a picture of Cindy Crawford today, roes that count for the last circle, or am I just showing my age

TeemuL: Ken painting ships, Grahame painting Samurai and Martin painting Russians... Groundhog day? Well, we haven't seen Cindy Crawford earlier, so may be this is another Thursday after all. Good looking Russians again. I'll grant you 141 points, I guess CC got you confused while counting the artillery points.

From PaulSS: Cold War BAOR supports [Limbo] (40 points)

Just like my last post this entry contains figures that were primed ready for painting in Challenge XIV but have remained in the box untouched, so I think are worthy of having been in Limbo.

Seven Days to the River Rhine has also had some of my gaming attention this past year so it was a chance to add these Pendraken Models to the BAOR forces.

A FV432M for indirect fire support and a trio of Milan teams.

Nine figures, three crew-served weapons and a vehicle in 10mm should score me 24 points, plus the 20 point bonus for the location.

TeemuL: Paul's second post today looks great, of course the infantry is very hard to see, when they are hugging the ground, as they should. And I'll count them as prone figures, too, so snipping couple of points away. But they are fitting for Limbo, of course, and I'm happy that after waiting for a year you have decided to paint them, since they look great, as I said. I think from 3 feet the excellent basing materials will make it realistically difficult for the opponent to see what they are actually facing at. :)

Let's see if we get any other entries today...

From RossM: The Last Post for AHPC XIV - 30 points

It has been a quick Challenge this time round and both unfortunately and regrettably I don't have much to show for it.

There is are miniatures in varying states of paint and unpaint across the painting table however due to a variety of different reasons, only the five AVF below are suitable to enter as my second and final post for this year's challenge.

The Desert War between 1940-43 has always been an interest of mine and on reading a "soft" copy of O Group from the boys at Too Fat Lardies, the rest as they say is history.

The vehicles are from Pendraken's great range of 10mm WW2 models and the detail shows well once painted.

There are four Marder II's and one Sd Kfz 10/4 with a 20mm AA gun fitted. The Marders where fun to paint and the extra detail on the sidings of the 10/4 take to dry brushing like a fish to water.

Sadly, this concludes my AHPC XIV with additional points as below:

10mm vehicles x 5 = 6 points each for a total of 30 points.

This takes my challenge total to 106 points from 500. Not the finish I was looking for but them's the blows

Looking forward to catching up with all of your posts from the last three months and November isn't far away.

Cheers for now

Great work on these DAK vehicles, Ross. I especially like the weathering and how you pulled out the details on the crew. Great little minis for 10mm!

I realize your output didn't meet your target, but I know you'll be more than up for it next time we roll out.

From PaulSS: Dirty Panzers and recon - 27pts

Just a small submission this week, I'm working towards a larger unit of 28mm figures that are due to be finished in time for next weeks post, but to maintain my cadence of at least one post a week I've added a few more vehicles to the 12mm-ish WWII collection for O Group.

A pair of Panzer IVH and a pair of SdKfz 222 join the German forces for my late WWII games.

All the models are from Pendraken and are nominally10mm but size well with the Victrix 12mm figures in my collection.

I've painted them in a dirty three colour scheme, the decals are from I-94 Enterprises after these were dried I added more muck and grime with a Tamiya weathering master kit.

Panzer IVH

Panzer IVH

Panzer IVH

Panzer IVH

SdKfz 222

SdKfz 222

SdKfz 222

SdKfz 222

Four 10mm-ish vehicles and three crew should add 27 points to my ongoing total.

Superb looking models here Paul and certainly reflect your considerable painting skills. The Sdkfz 222 was one of my favourite German recce vehicles of the war (surpassed perhaps only by the Puma?) and the Pzkpfw IV(H) is iconic, the schurzen look great. The weathering is really well done too and the grimy look certainly suits the "beginning of the end" in Normandy.

27 points seems paltry for these lovely models but we are slaves to the Magic Spreadsheet. Nice work!

From MilesR: More 10mm Russo Japanese War Madness (828 Points)

I've been quiet for a few weeks due to work obligations - I know, I know, my priorities are out of whack.

I have been steadily working away at my 10mm RJW project.  All of my figures are from Pendraken.  The left and center columns are mostly Russians and the right one is Japanese.  The artillery in the back is Japanese too.

Column 1 has 5 bases of Naval Infantry, 1 Siberian and 2 European Infantry divisions of 12 bases each and a 12 base Cossack division in the back.  There is also a lone base because I can't count.

Alongside them are 13 Maxim MG bases

In the center are 4 12 base European Russian Infantry divisions.

On the Japanese side there are 2 regular Infantry divisions followed by the Japanese Guard in their distinctive blue uniforms.  There are 9 bases of misc infantry which will start to form out the Japanese reserve Kobe brigades.

9 Hotchkiss Machine gun bases and 9 Japanese cavalry

Lastly 5 Japanese artillery batteries made up of captured Russian 77mm guns

Here are the minis that have been painted earlier in the challenge still boxed up from there return from the club and their first playtest.

First test game of my RJW rules

There are WAY too many markers as we were testing different rule concepts.  I have learned the bitter lesson that just because one can make lots of different markers with a laser cutter doesn't mean one SHOULD make lots of different markers....

With this submission, I'm closing in on "done" with the miniatures for the RJW project - I still have some Russian artillery to finish up and maybe another division of two for each side.  It is good to be over the hump!

The tally for today is:
Infantry 136 4 man bases =                            544 points
Cavalry 21 2 figure bases @3pts/figure =     126 points
MG teams 22 @ 4pts each =                          88 points 110 points
(1 figure +1 gun and crew) = 4 5pts each
Artillery 5 2 gun batters 11pts each =             55 points
(2 guns plus 5 crew)
Total                                                                 813 points

No wait - I just realized that some of my infantry bases only have 3 figures not 4 and I have no idea why!

Adjustment  for 7, 3 figure bases = -7 points

Total Points 806 Points

Well, you may have been quiet but you are back with a vengeance, Miles! What a bomb. Another impressive amount of RLG's, very nice indeed.  I love the photos of the game in progress, they really show the mass effect of these  small scale figures. Fabulous! And you are giving me a run for my money too, having me extract all the precise amounts of  single figures, cavalry and  equipment from your rather inimitable calculations. Not to speak of your inimitable formatting... However, I think your MG's with 2 crew are actually worth 5 points each, so after much triangulation, adding, subtracting and dividing that's 22 points extra for a total of  828. Congratulations, now get your priorities back in order and another such submission will see you shooting past your target soon!
