From Barks: Zombies & Galadriel & new Challenger (Science Fiction, Library Cart) (197 points)

I'm finishing off my whirlwind library trip.

Firstly, thirty Poxwalkers. These are GW's science fiction zombies, and as such are overly detailed. They have these quite nice grins, and are erupting with tentacles and horns. One is turning into a fly. There are maggots crawling in and on the figures. My main complaint with the miniatures is that there is no simple route for customisation. I'd prefer to be able to adjust the angles of the arms, try out different heads etc, but I'm stuck with repeats of the same ten distinct monopose figures. Sure, I could convert them, but it's a bit too much work for fodder. I stuck to a limited palette with yellow accents.

Thirty poxwalkers

That finishes off my library tasks- so I summon Lady Sarah's Library Cart to take me to the Snowlord's shelves. This is a 3D print of the lady Galadriel and her mirror (Printing Goes Ever On). I threw in a quick eye of Sauron, which stands out much more than I had anticipated! I wonder if I should make the edges darker. Should I give it a coat of gloss?

Now I'm ready to face the Snowlord's Challenge!

Addendum: I've added a new Challenger! The Skirt-Swisher has used her in-built 3D printer for a long print, I've removed the supports and washed off the residue.

I'm looking for name suggestions:
  • Boudica
  • Hive Queen
  • Montgomerina
  • Rommelina
  • Napoleonette
  • ?
From Millsy: Firstly, congrats to the both of you on the new arrival mate! So good to see your latest creation healthy and happy with her Dad. Remember its never too soon to start them on the brushes. Might I suggest Skullzette for a name? It has a lovely feminine tone and just rolls off the tongue.

On to more important matters and you've got another great entry here. I second your thoughts on the customisation options (or lack thereof) for the poxwalkers but as you say they're just chaff.

Galadriel is wonderful The Eye of Sauron is just brilliant. My first thought is she's thinking "Bugger. I knew washing the palantir in this thing was a bad idea!"

From Barks: A light snack from the larder (35 points)

Just a little something to tide me over until lunchtime!

I really like this halfling- he's a printed figure from The Printing Goes Ever On.

This cart is also printed.

These market stalls are from Mantic, and are the most frustratingly bendy rubbish, I almost rage quit on them a few times. I'm no stranger to warped soft plastic, but these failed to respond to the hot water/ ice bath treatment, and I ended up melting the struts over a flame to try and get them straighter. Now the ejection marks offend me, and they hide the nice goods below. The tables, barrels, and wares are all Mantic as well, and they're fine. But fine bendy pieces? Avoid like the plague- do not recommend.

Oh, and the manx is a metal Reaper familiar- did you spot him?

Two entires in one day? Solid work that man!  Love the Halfling and the nod to the scene in Lord of the Rings where the Gaffer is showing off his prize gourd.  Liked the stalls too but will give them a wide berth noting your comments. Overall, a lovely entry for the theme - nice work Barks!

Cap'n Wednesday

From Barks: Ring a dong dillo (35 points)

Ho there Barks-a-dol, merry Barks-a-dillo,
What is that you’re painting, for the teleporter?

Why, it's Bombadil, he’s a jolly fellow,
And his lady Goldberry- pretty River-daughter.

Old Tom Bombadil, and the River-daughter!
Teleport time! Goldberry is some sort of river spirit in Middle-earth. Her gown is the colour of young reeds, her hair and belt are gold. I don't usually use flowering tufts, but I think they look great here.

Goldberry, Goldberry, merry yellow berry-o!

She's the wife of Tom Bombadil, an even more enigmatic character with his yellow boots, blue jacket, and great big bushy beard. I love this Hildebrandtian sculpt! I can see him carelessly skipping up to Sauron and giving him a bit of a cheerful slap and dancing away.

Tom Bom, jolly Tom, Tom Bombadillo!

These are both resin prints from The Printing Goes Ever On.

Next-stop: also Middle-earth!

------

I've got to say you've done a great job with the most annoying characters from the book Barks. Was anyone else hoping for the Witch King of Angmar, Lord of the Nazgul, to just show up and steal their souls? No? Just me? Well, thats awkward...  Lovely minis though mate!
