From ChristopherS - Egyptian Professor of Archaeology and Archaeologist Adventurer (Curtgeld) (40 points)

These two are my Curtgeld entries for last years challenge and this years challenge as well. Last year was a difficult challenge where I completely lost my painting mojo very early on and to my shame I also failed to turn in my entry fee. This year has been the complete opposite where my mojo has been very high and I even managed to break the 500pts barrier for the first time on straight points without entering the bonus rounds.Anyhow enough of my blathering.

First up is the Egyptian Professor of Archaeology for the Ant-Hero/Villain. I pictures him as the unscrupulous rogue in the older films who either for personal gain or working for the undead mummy Pharaoh was always planning against the hero to get a relic or magic book. He often gave a friendly face before revealing his true motives. I suppose most often he was often the villain, but not always and has at times been portrayed as a crafty individual wanting to collect items that interested him and therefore was in competition with the hero rather then wanting his demise making him a kind of anti-hero of a sort at times.

The figure is a 28mm Coppelstone Casting and like all his figures an absolute pleasure to paint.

The second figure is this years Risk Taker theme in the form of the  Archaeologist Adventurer is an obvious risk taker who will take any risk to achieve his goal as personified in the Indiana Jones films. He is a rogue to be sure and I suppose somewhat of a an anti-hero, but a above all a fantastic risk taker battling men, weather, elements, magic, insects, traps and animals and moving vehicles in his pursuits to get the object of his goal. This model fit the bill nicely and was an easy choice for my selection.

The figure is once again a brilliant  a 28mm Coppelstone Casting a blast to paint up.

Both of these figures will give me 10pts.

This is my last entry for what has been a great challenge and my best so far. I've managed to break my 500 pts. ceiling, defeat my good friend Nick in a hard fought Bavarian Challenge and give a respectable showing in the Bronze to Steel Challenge. I wish to thank Curt for hosting yet another fantastic challenge and I hope to see all of us in the thick of it again next winter!

From GregB - Overdue Curtgeld - Old West 28mm (20 Points)

Don't move, varmit!

I don't have a whole lot to submit this week, but it is a submission I am pleased to finally make, as it is a shamefully overdue Curtgeld, owed on a Challenge long past.  This is a 25mm Old West figure, I think from Foundry, but I'm not 100% sure, as I got it from my friend Dallas here in Winnipeg.

Double crossed at...cards? Prospecting? Over dinner? Who knows...

I have no good excuse about how long this took to finish...meant to get to it, got to other projects, economy was in trouble, bad crosswinds, excuses, excuses etc.  Inspired by Mr. Roundwood's earlier (much more eloquent) post regarding catching up on Curtgeld dues, I dug this fellow out of the pile, got off my @ss and finally finished him this week.

Part of the issue is that I don't know a whole lot about the "Old West", other than it was, well, old, and it took place in the west.  As a Canadian in the prairies, I should really know more about that, but there you go...just not a period or setting I have really delved into, and hasn't grabbed my attention. That said, this fellow looks entertaining - a bit grouchy.  I like to imagine someone double-crossed him on something, and the answer to a double-cross is a double-barrelled weapon, right?

I would say this is a true 25mm figure, wherever it came from.  It's a figure size I genuinely miss, as most stuff is 28mm these days (and most of those are actually 30mm, but anyway).  But I think this will ad five points to my total.  Not much, but I'll take it!  Curt, this fellow will be here waiting for you when you next visit Winnipeg...

Perhaps its the sculpting of the folds in his clothes, or the size of his head, but he has a certain Dixon look about him. Maybe that's whats making him so grouchy. ;)  Seriously, this is a wonderful figure, Greg, and a very pleasant surprise. I particularly like his red waistcoat and beat-up hat - a gentleman from the Frontier for sure.

Curtgeld is worth 20 points in the Challenge market, so that's what you'll get for him. Thanks so much Greg. I look forward to picking up 'DoubleCross Dixon' when we're in your parts next. :)
