From ChrisW: Even more 15mm Sci-fi stuff - Civilian and military [108 points]

So, time for some generic vehicles, some civilian vehicles and some NSL hover bikes.

Up first are the generic military. They are painted in a neutral camo green colour, so theoretically I can use them for any army. The jeeps, trailers and ATV are all from GZG, while the communications vehicle is a matchbox toy.

The civilian vehicles are also from GZG

The Mule from the Serenity movie!

Note the dollar store 'gem' for a light

These really were fun to paint. The 'mule' was primed white then painted with a new Vallejo yellow Xpress paint that covered the vehicle very nicely. For the orange vehicles I used an old GW foundation paint for the orange base, then a mix of orange paints and a wash of GW Carroburg crimson and some final dry brushing highlights.

Finally here are some New Swabian League (NSL) hover bikes. It seems I have bought rather a lot of GZG bikes, at least 1/2 dozen per faction (six factions) so I have plenty left to paint. Here are 8 NSL bikes.

The base colour is the same that I used for the main NSL fighting vehicles, minus the brown camo.

So the totals

  •   40 points for 5 ish 15mm vehicles (8 points each) (counting the trailers at 4 each)
  •     4 points for 2x 15mm generic drivers
  •   32 points for 4x 15mm civilian vehicles
  •   32 points for 8x 15mm mounted figures (4 points each)

Total 108 points

I like the variety here Chris! Every tabletop needs some civvy scatter vehicles and these ones look great. The not-Flying Mule from Firefly is super. Good idea to paint some "generic" drab vehicles that can fit into any faction as well. Your 15mm motor pool continues to expand!

108 for you :-)

From ChrisW 15mm Sci-fi New Anglian Confederation (NAC) [176 points]

Surprise, surprise more 15mm sci-fi figures!(rarely have I been this fixated on any one subject) This time some NAC vehicles, mostly Ground Zero Games miniatures but also some Brigade models and two Bradley Miniatures armoured cars.

They started off primed in Vallejo brown leather rattle can, which came out kind of orange/brown, then they sat on a shelf while I awaited inspiration. I decided to go for progressively lighter shades aiming at a desert yellow end shade. It was only after I had been painting them a while that I realized that I was painting them as if they were WWII Afrika Corps...go figure.

So no stripes on these, basically just shades of yellow. I did experiment with a blotch style of  green/brown camo but I did not like the look of it and I lacked confidence that it would work out. So I decided to dirty up the wheels and lower parts of the vehicles to try an add a bit of extra something to the overall appearance. Speaking of wheels, 136 wheels seemed to me to be too many wheels, the initial excitement wore off rather quickly.

Paladin HEL armed tanks

Phalanx APC

Medium APCs

Recon light vehicles

Heavy tanks (Brigade Models)

Two Armoured cars (Bradley miniatures)

This AC comes with a choice of interchangeable turrets

AA and Slam artillery (the Slam is by Brigade Models)

So the totals

  • 176 points for 22x 15mm vehicles (8 points each)

Chris, your production and level of quality here is impressive! You can't go far wrong with emulating the DAK colourway and these vehicles look very cool. All they need are little palm tree decals. Excellent work and another good points haul for you.

From ChrisW - Ground Zero Games & Brigade Models 15mm hover vehicles [233 points]

I plan to use these vehicles with some New Swabian League (NSL) troops from GZG. Most of these vehicles are from GZG with a few Brigade Models tanks and one converted tank (the big ugly one, lower left, that looks like an American tank) I have drafted up a T.O.E. for the NSL based on what I currently own. As I look at my collection I am not really certain why I bought what I bought. At any rate instead of ordering any more stuff I made up a list of what will get deployed in the APCs.

So, I was inspired by WWII early war German armour. In part this was because of the NSL figures I have, have a German quality to them. I remembered that I had watched a good video by Sonic Sledgehammer all about painting an early war tank. So I leveraged it, added some brown camo and modified a few other bits to come up with this paint scheme.

I am really not certain about the antennas as I keep knocking them causing the vehicles to flip or the antenna to detach!

Up first the APCs:

So, there are three APCs in each unit with two light support tanks. Each APC can carry 10-12 troops but the command APC only carries 5-6 troops. As it stands, each squad will have 25 or so troops (to be painted)

 The veteran APCs:

These will carry the veteran squad, the Jaeger troops.  At some point I bought some troops that looked a little different from the regular rank and file. The number of troop figures I have has dictated how I divide up my vehicles. In this case I have just slightly more troops than can fit in these vehicles.

I have given the veterans two guided missile equipped APCs as befits a higher quality (and smaller) unit.

The main battle tanks

High Energy Laser (HEL) front center

Brigade models and one modified toy

Medium tanks with tank hunter

Support vehicles

Recon and Mobile Autonomous Weapons Platforms - Hover (MAWP-H)

The MAWP-H were freebies from the Christmas sale at GZG

Edit

So, I was glancing at my post when I spotted something kind of odd.

Somehow a weapon pod got wedge in under the gun. How is it that I do not spot these things in real life but only in the photos. Also with me moving these figures around so much how did it not fall out on its own? (it was not glued in)

So the totals

  • 208 points for 26x 15mm vehicles (8 per)
  •     5 points for 5x 15mm 1/2 body crew. (1 per)
  •   20 points for 5x 15mm MAWP-H (4 per) [Treating them like 1/2 vehicles each]

Great stuff here Chris, I like the camo you've done on the vehicles. I share your frustration with the antennae. I used to use wire antennae too (liked the look) but I also tired of them snapping off the vehicle chassis. So I switched to using synthetic broom bristles. They're flexible and don't break off. That's 233 points for you!
