From TomL: Clearing the Desk (220 points)

The AHPC challenge of trying to post something weekly coupled with the wonderfully addictive nature of the Library theme generator really pushed my output and cleared out some boxes of unpainted figures.  

Thanks again to Curt, Sarah, Millsy and all of the minions for all the time & effort it takes to put on the AHPC.  While painting was a lot of fun, looking at all the other entries in the morning is something I am going to miss quite a lot. Hope to join again next year.  

Starting off this post is another lady adventurer. The last Pulp Adventuress on the painting table is Mrs. Mallowan from Bob Murch’s Daughters of the Empire set.  Painted with Foundry and Two Thin Coat paints.

Wandering in from the Congo box after he missed the last call for the Nature entry is a Wargames Foundry gorilla.

These are Wargame Factory Zombie survivors picked up at a GenCon in 2013. They were assembled in a week or two by my friend's young son, I painted a few and the rest sat on a shelf until I bought contrast paints. Painted in spurts over the last few years I decided to finish these last 10 so they can join the other 50 painted survivors.  They are a weirdly sculpted set in that all the heavyset figures clothes fit horribly - social statement? 

The final group is my Skaven.  Still have a few leaders & random old metal blisters but this unit of 24 completes my rank & file clanrats. These were painted with contrast, Foundry acrylics and Vallejo Metal color paints and dirtied up with Vallejo Game wash.

Two heavy weapon teams of death and destruction. Sometimes they even hit the enemy.

I believe points for this post would be 220.

2 28mm weapons with 4 crew for 40 points.  Assuming the weapon is 10 plus 5 per crew - correct as needed.

A great way to clean your desk Tom! Mrs. Mallowan looks very spiffy, I like the way you painted her skirt. Not a lady to mess with I think. The gorilla and the zombie survivors all look great, but I find your clanrats the true pièce de résistance of this contribution. The varied colours look great, and you have applied just the correct amount of wash to bind them all together while preserving some of the vibrancy of the colours. Very nice! Those weapon teams of death look horrifying, one wonders whose death we are talking about here. But they look terrifying  terrific, a fine job. Your calculations are correct I think, so 220 points added to your tally!

 Medieval bits 

First up a few buildings from Tabletop World plastic 28mm range to add to my medieval building collection. 

I spackle finish (pre mixed plaster) the gaps between the collombage. I mask the collombage (paint on mask all) then add the plaster, let set a little, go back and then dapple with a tooth brush to give it texture and to hide the tabs that they come with. I then undercoat and paint with artist acrylics , then add washes etc. I have also done some interior work as I can then use them for skirmish gaming. When I complete my castle build later this year they will be put on village bases that slot onto the castle board for instant city scape.

Then a siege engine, a mix of foundry and mirliton miniatures (foundry crew). This has been sitting around since my last medieval entry as I wanted to add a counterweight for the stone and have my crew reloading it or pulling it as the lever is not really correct to my engineering mind, I eventually just gave up and made the counterweight and added cordage.

Nice work for your second post of the day, Matt.

I hate to be the bearer of bad tidings, but your points claims are off somewhat. The buildings come out as 150 cubic inches, which is 0.7 terrain cubes, so 14 points. And the siege engine is a crew served weapon, so that's 10 points rather than 15.

Iain W 28mm Chasseurs a cheval de la Imperial guard 120 ponts

 This unit didn't make it to the big game but I've finished them now, it's a rather understated uniform I think but I do like them, since a double cataract operation in December I'm having to re learn how to paint and can't see close up like I did before, so I think they're alright but I'm not entirely sure! Like virtually all my Imperial guard figures these are metal and therefore second hand, the previous owner had picked them up second hand with their black acrylic paint worn off in various places and with only the eagle bearer apart from the rank and file, I converted/promoted one of those chaps into a command figure, the trumpeter was a Foundry figure ( part of a rather varied eBay French Napoleonic command purchase ) who matches his Perry cousins in size very well ,(one of the sword at the ready chaps took his place guarding the Emperor, the Foundry horse was definitely diminutive compared to the Perry horses) I cut his carbine off and gave him a spare plastic trumpet hand

The flags are by GMB designs and very nice they are too, bases by Warbase. Twelve times ten points for 28mm cavalry should give me 120 welcome points, next up? More guard cavalry I think!

From what I can see the refurbished eyes are working fine.  There’s always room for Napoleons Guard Chasseurs.  I enjoyed reading how you sourced the figures, all the various riders seem to fit in fine.  Nice basework too.  

You obviously inhabit a different clime than I if that’s a recent outdoor picture.

…… as per custom for me  a Star Wars ship (1/172 a weird  scale, the model is about the size of a matchbox car) somehow fits into a challenge somewhere every year! A simple build I completed in between painting the other bits on Sunday, I think I assembled and painted in less than three hours while listening to The Yarkshire Gamers “Brews in the binyard chat” (where I got a mention too! )

What a fantastic set of entries, Matt. I'm going to assume the Star Wars ship is a 28mm vehicle, but it would help in future if you could state the scale, provide a size-comparison photo or email me beforehand to check. I've added a point for the flag as you have hand-painted over the photocopy.

For tracking your progress through the studios, it would be very helpful if you could download the studio map and edit it by adding numbers or ticks to indicate which studios you've visited, then include the updated map as part of your posts.

Update - the Star Wars ship is, I am informed, about the size of a Matchbox or Hotwheels car, so I've adjusted the scoring of that to a 20mm vehicle.

From BruceR - 28mm Norman support archers and citizens of Rome to mix it up (85 points)

In my 2nd year of the Challenge I marvel at everyone's ability to grind out projects.  My first Challenge, last year, was done during social lock down so many minis were tackled.  I'm still doing well, just notice how juggling all during this Challenge is different.  Well, soldier on I say.  

Holiday Monday here in the US and a blizzard day south of the Snowlord's lair.  Posting early as work has me traveling (if possible) to cover in another city for the week, I'll pack some brushes to see if I can motel paint.  

First up this week is rounding out a Norman SAGA force.  I've played a little SAGA and while I enjoy as one on one, I prefer more scenario-based adventures rather than the tournament style game (age showing maybe).  These archers have been primed and in a bin for probably 3-4 years.  Hopefully traveling to Adepticon (at the end of the challenge) and meeting a friend to try SAGA in a team approach.  Never played my Normans so here is an opportunity.  Thus, these levy archers.  They are Warlord miniatures.  Nice models, yet the faces are somewhat chunky.  Yes the helmet nasal piece covers the nose, but faces could have been more robust.  Overall good models.  I did try a speed effort and used my airbrush to base color the models with three different tunic color types.  Washed and highlighted.  Thought I was done and then decided to add some trim colors to round them out.

Next, is a story of needing some miniatures for a game.  Actually, gaming again might be the reason I lose some hobby time (ha).  So  my group wanted to play some Dark Age Vikings and so we used a LittleWars TV scenario using the Ravenfeast Rules.  The scenario required 7 monks.  I thought I had purchased a monk package from Foundry Miniatures and discovered I had not.  They look great and I just must have not clicked.  Hmmm, what to do.  Well enter my next submission.  Citizens of Rome break out your acting gear.  I have these for the purpose of having some citizens for "Infamy Infamy" by TooFatLardies.  I base coated them in brown and painted the faces.  Boom, stand ins for Monks.  here is a picture of the game with one of the Roman Citizens turned Monk in the lower left.

After the game and some family time, finished the Citizens for the Challenge.

Citizens of Roman come forward and hear of the latest news of the glorious legions.

I've decided to leave the outer ring with a couple of planets undone.  Oh, well the price for gaming.  I'm throwing my fate in the hands of GregB to guide my travels, so leaping into a Warp maelstrom.  

On to the Middle Orbit.  

Here is my early submission.  Everybody in the North stay safe as mother nature gives us a couple of more blasts before spring and let's sprint to the finish line.  Stay well.

It is always nice to see some neglected miniatures getting their time under the brush - good for those Norman Archers! I really enjoyed "SAGA" myself, until they released a second edition, and would not tell me if I needed to replace my boards or not...

Good work pressing those fine citizens of Rome into service as monks! Nothing like the pressure of an impending game to bring out some creativity!

Having stopped on four different worlds in the outer ring, I believe you could travel to the next ring on your own, but who am I to ignore a request to travel via Maelstrom? Sipping on my morning Starbucks, and carefully consulting with various warp navigation authorities (that 40k Navigator figure I painted never talks back, but whatever), I declare your next destination shall be Coruscant - Imperial, Good vs. Evil.
